Steven P. Founder Share Posted November 5, 2013 We have removed the post count in the post view and replaced it with Best Answers. We are after all first and foremost a tech community that relies on peer support. MVC's have been recognised for this fact, whether it be for the guides they submit or the help they give in the tech sections. We want to build on that and reward those members that help the most, that could mean that the member is recognised as a Most Valued Contributor, or a free subscription handed out. Post count remains in the profile view, hover card and non tech areas of the forum, and the stars are still present. We hope you like this update, and we'll also be adding a leaderboard that shows which members help out the most later. Tech Areas = Non Tech areas = Best Answers are enabled in all Tech and Support sections. Update: (due to member feedback in this topic) post is here. Tech issues solved only visible in tech forums Now on hovercard and profile as well 0 Tech issues solved count disabled from view Post count visible on all other forums (non tech areas) Thanks to Redmak for providing these updates. 12 Share
Praetor Share Posted November 5, 2013 yeah nice one! that will drive more folks to here, asking for support or either helping out, both good.
LimeMaster Share Posted November 5, 2013 You're trying to make me bad because I don't get best answers. :o :p But yeah I suppose it's good for the ones that do get them. :) 2 Share
Tom Share Posted November 5, 2013 Rappy will be devastated.. In what forums is the 'best answer' feature active? Just the entire of the 'Technical help & Suppot' section? Also I'd suggest removing '0 best answers' until people gain at least 1. 14 Share
tiagosilva29 Share Posted November 5, 2013 My counter should be negative. 4 Share
+Anarkii Subscriber² Share Posted November 5, 2013 I like it, although after what... 11-12 years here it will take some getting used to :)

Steven P. Author Founder Share Posted November 5, 2013 Forgot to add that the Best Answer feature is only enabled in Tech & Support forums (where it matters most). 1 Share
Chasethebase Veteran Share Posted November 5, 2013 Liking this change :) Rappy will be devastated.. I wouldn't worry, the stars are still present :) 1 Share
Geoffrey B. Veteran Share Posted November 5, 2013 Very nice indeed, people can strive for more answers rather than higher post counts! :D 1 Share

fusi0n Share Posted November 5, 2013 I don't know.. is it possible to have both? 5 Share

Nick H. Supervisor Share Posted November 5, 2013 I don't know.. is it possible to have both?If you look under the member's profile you can still see their post count. Personally I think that will do, we don't want to clutter up everyone's info on the left side of the forum. The stars still work as a general indicator, and for those wanting a precise number they just need to select the user's profile.
Steven P. Author Founder Share Posted November 5, 2013 Or hover on the member name for the hover card and post totals. 1 Share

I see the direction you guys want to make, and it should strive users to make better quality post.. However.. I feel like having the post count visible is more important. If they want to know how many best answers someone has, then that should be the info to get when they hover.. If you don't want to clutter people's profile info, then remove the phone type or os version.. 4 Share
Torolol Share Posted November 5, 2013 you can tell who loves facebook by observing how much information they put about themself in a forum.
Steven P. Author Founder Share Posted November 5, 2013 When I visit a site for the first time, a members post count doesn't want to make me register, the quality of the post does. 3 Share

But I do see your point, what would be more important, joined date or post count?
Andre S. Veteran Share Posted November 5, 2013 I'm cautiously optimistic that this is a move in the right direction. Hopefully this will encourage use of the "best answer" feature and decrease the apparent value of post count.
fusi0n Share Posted November 5, 2013 When I visit a site for the first time, a members post count doesn't want to make me register, the quality of the post does. I understand that, but what about members that have been here for years.. What about giving users or subscribers the choice? 1 Share
Steven P. Author Founder Share Posted November 5, 2013 I understand that, but what about members that have been here for years.. What about giving users or subscribers the choice? Post counts are in multiple places, there's even pages for most posts ever, today etc and as I pointed out, it's easy to find if people really need to know.
zhangm Supervisor Share Posted November 5, 2013 Can the thread starter still select their own posts as Best Answer in a thread? 1 Share
Damo R. Veteran Share Posted November 5, 2013 I think this is a great move for a new direction (y) As Steven and Nick said you can find Post Counts if you want so they aren't really gone more hidden.
