Malaysia Airlines 'loses contact with plane' (and search effort updates)

Not necessarily as hostage talks have been known to go on for years in some cases

There's no way they'd be able to keep it secret if it was a hostage situation. Terrorists thrive on publicity. Without it, their actions have no purpose.

So it flew for around 5 hours with a fire onboard?  I will definitely rule that one out also lol :)

Yeah sorry, don't know if I made it clear or not in the post (early morning and an hours less kip!) - but my point was a fire would be extremely unlikely as it almost certainly wouldn't have kept flying for that long. If the fire took the comms out early in the flight, it would gradually take other things with it so systems eventually stop working - including the autopilot - and even the basics to control the aircraft (777 is FBW) would no longer be possible.

i still think they've landed somewhere remote, the passgengers / crew are either alive or dead and the plane has been hidden.

seeing as there has been zero sightings or debris.

Not a chance.  There is nowhere on this planet a plane that size could do that, without someone knowing it had done so, also, at least one of the many passengers who carried mobile devices would have got some kind of telling signal out to the rest of the world by now, not impossible, but highly unlikely.

Hypoxia is a more likely cause, incapacitation of passengers and crew, whilst on autopilot seems plausible, as the plane would have just flew on till fuel starvation set in.

It has happened before on Helios Airways flight 522.

Hijacked IBM Engineer Successfully Dialed Out Of Diego Garcia

?I have been held hostage by unknown military personal after my flight was hijacked (blindfolded). I work for IBM and I have managed to hide my cellphone in my ass during the hijack. I have been separated from the rest of the passengers and I am in a cell. My name is Philip Wood. I think I have been drugged as well and cannot think clearly.?

This image, which appears black was posted as taken in a dark cell by an IBM engineer. The picture is black because the cell was too dark, but a critical piece of information was embedded in the Exif data, the coordinates to Diego Garcia, where the picture was taken. And it?s real, this is NOT a hoax. The coordinates in the picture indicate that the photo was taken within 3 miles of what Google officially gives for Diego Garcia. It is NOT EXACTLY what comes up on Google. It is off a couple miles, so NO ONE GOOGLED THIS, thus helping to confirm it?s authenticity.  Diego Garcia is big enough to have a runway be hard to see in full frame pictures of the island, so a 3 mile radius fits.

Exif data gets embedded in every image by every camera and includes the circumstances under which the photo was taken. It can be viewed by saving the image to your desktop, and then right clicking it and selecting image properties. Hit the details tab. You can see that the image was taken on March 18 with an Iphone 5, with the ISO at 3200 and a shutter of 1/15. The coordinates are included in the exif data because the Iphone knows where it is, and the coordinates are for Diego Garcia.

It would be interesting if true, considering that Diego Garcia is a major(-ish) military installation, and a 777 would be reasonably hard to hide (unless they recently built a hangar large enough)

Fun facts: The British own it. It was an alternate shuttle landing site

And this person seems to be thinking quite clearly, especially if he has been drugged as claimed. Bit of a shame there isn't a secret message/message to family included.

Well, Maldives does have cell phone service:

http://www.rangeroamer.com/countries/Maldives.aspx

But would a military base not block out-going calls ?

Would Phil Wood's ex-wife, girlfriend, business associates not receive a text/call ?

How did Wood see to type a text ... ?

... possible for him to pull his Iphone 5 (a fact confirmed by the Exif data) out of his butt as stated, and use the voice command ability of the Iphone to just talk to it to log in and post the message.

Only reason I can see for the 'military' to hijack the MH370 jet is to stage another false-flag operation.

Blaming unknown 'terrorists'.

Was the General on FOX News, stating that Intelligence believe the flight went to Pakistan -- was he actually setting things up ....

I would presume that all cellphones are confiscated by whoever leading the the hijack. So yes, I doubt if this is true, especially, when download an image online you loses the file creation/modified date and time, thus making it susceptible to tampered EXIF data.

edit: apparently he claims he hid the cellphone in his ass, and he is drugged and cannot think clearly. But yet he can retrieve the phone from his ass, and send a well written text message on a touchscreen device while in a dark cell, plus blindfolded, is indeed some feat.

sent March 18 ... about 10 days after the hijacking -- Does an Iphone 5 stay charged that long ?

Wouldn't it be off on the plane or powered off before sticking it in? I'd imagine it would be awkward if the phone rang in his ass.. or vibrate.

There's an app for anything these days....

iPhone 5 has Voice commands.

Now I wonder where he logged in to, and left the Text.

    • Google pitches Spanner as one database for all AI agents with these new featues by Karthik Mudaliar Google Cloud is introducing new features within Spanner, its distributed database, as a place where enterprises should keep their data, using which AI agents could make smarter and better decisions. In a detailed blog post, Google highlighted quite a few features coming to Spanner, including relational data, graph relationships, vector search, key-value access, full-text search, and operational analytics together in one database architecture. Google says that today's systems aren't well-made for AI agents. There could be data that is present in one system, search indexes in another, embeddings in a vector database, and relationship data in a graph database. This fragmentation isn't great for AI agents to do their jobs because they don't have access to all of this data in one place. This is where Google is positioning Spanner as a solution. Spanner is already a globally distributed relational database with strong consistency, and Google wants its customers to see it as a broader data layer for AI applications. The company introduced something called Spanner Graph, along with integrated vector search, full-text search, a Cassandra-compatible key-value endpoint, and a columnar engine for analytical queries on operational data. Google also added that its ScaNN-powered vector search can support indexes with more than 10 billion vectors, while the columnar engine can make some analytical scans up to 200 times faster. All of this isn't just exclusive to the Google Cloud Platform, and there's support for multi-cloud as well. This comes via Spanner Omni, which Google says is a downloadable, containerized version of Spanner that can run on Kubernetes and in environments outside Google Cloud, including Microsoft Azure and AWS, and even on-premises infrastructure as well as edge deployments. Google says that customers who are interested in the full-featured edition should contact the company, and there's no word on commercial availability or separate pricing. Those interested can read the full blog by Google Cloud, which details these features individually.

    • They have lots of info on me, I have a facebook account and have done so for years, it was the thing to have then. My phone number is not on it. I don't have the Facebook app on my phone these days, just the messenger part, and only for a couple of people to contact me, most will text me via SMS or phone. I agree, Meta, like others, even without an account will know something about me. Just have to try and keep some things private Also, never saw the need for Whatsapp, people used to ask for me to join it, but as I said to them, I have SMS and a phone, use that, or email
