Malaysia Airlines 'loses contact with plane' (and search effort updates)

Recommended Posts

Malaysia says it has received new satellite images from France showing potential debris from missing flight MH370 in the southern Indian Ocean.

This is the third set of images in a week of possible debris in the area.

Australia is coordinating the search and earlier said it was investigating sightings of a pallet and other items.

Malaysia officials say now that the last data received from flight MH370 did not show any deviation from the planned course to Beijing, and the pilots are not suspect.

Update on ACARS transmission

- The last ACARS transmission, sent at 1.07am, showed nothing unusual. The 1.07am transmission showed a normal routing all the way to Beijing.

... I do wish these idiots would make up their damned minds... So now what? It didn't go of course and just vanished into a black hole or something?

^ I don't know if I trust CNN. I mean they DID speculate whether a black hole got the plane.

If I were you, I wouldn't even turn on news networks channels at all when it comes to things like this. Those people still don't even understand difference between ACARS and SATCOM. Those people can't get even simple terminology right most of the time. Posting links from CNN, FOX, etccc .. half of them time that info either pure bs and completely wrong. And yet people still believing it.

^ I think something is off with this CNN report.

I do not see much to confirm the report.

Even if they were on course by the last ACARS report, other radar showed a turn, and unknown blips.

It was reported that ADS-C (Aircraft Dependent Surveillance - Contract) sent a report (Predicted Route Group report) using ACARS ( 1:07am).  It would send next position waypoint that was programmed into FMC. Either somebody read it wrong, report was misinterpreted, or they just rushed to tell public without looking closely at ACARS data.

Is it too much to call this a world class cluster-****?

Nope, it's already there. And lack, slowness, and sometime wrong information form Malaysia doesn't help either. ( but sometimes it takes time to analyze some data too)

I'll post this here, since it is from a General:

McInerney said that according to unverified reports, the plane could have been flying in the shadow of Singapore Airlines Flight 68 over India. He said a LIGNET report says that Boeing sources believe the plane is in Pakistan.

If Pakistan's turn now, Obama will have no trouble making a connection Pakistan to hijacking the plane :) I always liked CIA, intelligent guys :)

If 'Intelligence' suspects a Pakistan landing, why the charade in the south Indian ocean ... ?

I've never understood why they chose to think the plane went south.

The pilots clearly changed course several times.

The pilots clearly changed course several times.

2 main reasons.

1) Unless there some very unusual circumstances the the shadowing theory etc... then for MH370 to pass over the countries in the northern corridor without being detected either by radar (or by sight if flying low enough to avoid radar) is very very slim, obviously it could be that these countries are lying, but again that's a stretch as you'd have to have multiple parties being complicit in some massive coverup to keep it all quiet.

2) Both satellites and now planes have spotted debris in the southern corridor, again not necessarily from MH370, but the size of some pieces seen (24 meters +) and location so close to the end of the arc would seem to be more than just coincidence.

The announcement that it went down in the Southern Indian Ocean (west of Perth) is from UK satellite data, not confirmed sighting(s) of wreckage then? (Source: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-26716572)

Earlier the BBC saw a text message sent to families saying it had to be assumed "beyond reasonable doubt" that the plane was lost and there were no survivors.

Despite no concrete evidence only assumption to prove the point. It could still be either landed somewhere remote i.e. in Australia or have people in life rafts or have been taken to a destination unknown by subjects unknown and still to be determined.

Wait, say what? The airline sent text messages to the family to notify them? I'm pretty sure most people are in agreement that breaking up with a boyfriend/girlfriend over text message is incredibly lazy and inconsiderate; how much more so is sending a text message that your loved one is deceased in an airplane crash?

This entire fiasco will definitely go down as one of the worst investigations of all time.

Well, after 17 days...it's over.

It's not over, it just means that they have officially given up hope on there being survivors, to my knowledge. They will still continue to search for the plane.

Yes, according to CNN an Australian naval ship is on it's way to the last reported "sighting" by the UK satellite and they even expect to find debris before tomorrow morning.

As far as the text message relay to the families, while its harsh, I'm under the impression that the families would have been asked before hand if they want up to date notifications by text. Its quicker and easier than calling one by one.

On a second note this was a great read on Gizmodo

You have to wonder that if we can have internet connected planes, why can't the black box be the same
