I spent some time yesterday helping people with Rom, and it was pretty hilarious.  The ratio of hosts that would die in that fight versus all of the other boss fights is so high for some reason. Sometimes the host would initiate the fight, and I wouldn't even be able to get into the arena myself before they died. lol

That's Souls for you.

A lot of people seem to struggle with Rom lol. I think it's the small guys head dives that one hit KO a lot of people who aren't careful.

After my first session I've got only a single gripe. Dodging is sometimes unpredictable. Have had moments where it'll dodge in the complete opposite direction of where I've pointed my stick. Otherwise I enjoy the game far more than Dark or Demon Souls.

Poison knives aren't too bad on him

Hmm didn't think of that... the bastard was dodging all my shots and molotovs so I didn't consider other throwable stuff.

I've been wandering through other areas meanwhile, getting murdered by different types of creatures. Most notably (but by no means restricted to) the third and fourth bosses, which I haven't killed yet  :/ got pretty close to killing both, not sure if that sucks more or less than dying without getting close at all

So under my Key Items I have something called the Sword Hunter Badge, with the option to use it, should I?

Also I have the Madmans Knowledge, 2 of them, I should use them for the Insight right?

I also picked up something called the Saw Spear, I got it off a dangling body I knocked down in the area with the Rats, will check it out. I have 5 Blood Shards now or whatever it is called to fortify the weapons, not sure if I should apply them to the cane which I have been using or this new weapon. Can you apply them to the gun (I am using the Blunderbuss). Also I see I can either apply all 5 to the cane for the 2nd upgrade, or 3 of them to the Saw Spear or the Blunderbuss. I am leaning towards the cane since it got me hear so far, but the Saw seems pretty bad ass just playing with it in the Hunters Dream.

I get the game is about trying stuff out, but since I barely get to play I want to know I am doing it right.

So I am now at the area with the Father boss fight. Going to call it a night and attempt it tomorrow night.

I also talked to a NPC to get 4 Hunters Masks or whatever it is called. If I understand them right if I want to safe travel back to the nearest lamp without dying and losing my echoes, I use it right?

As far as I know, the badges just allow you to purchase new items at the shop. If you really can use them, I'm not sure what that would do. I never tried that myself.

I would save your Madman's Knowledges for when you absolutely need the insight. (like if you have zero, and you need an insight to summon help for a hard boss) There are enemies in the game that will eat your insight, and you'll never get it back. If you want to "farm" insight, just get the small resonant bell, get summoned, and help others kill bosses. You get echos, insight, and practice this way. (Y)

As for upgrading your cane or newly acquired Saw Spear, you can't go wrong with either. The benefit of From reducing the number of weapons in the game (compared to the other "Souls" games) is that it makes all the ones that are in the game equally viable. So use/upgrade which ever weapon you like. Also keep in mind that the blood shards you need to upgrade weapons from +0 to +3 are really plentiful once you get a bit further into the game. So I wouldn't worry too much about spending them on a weapon you may not end up liking.

And yes, the Bold Hunters Marks will return you to the last lantern you used without you losing any echos. However, the Hunter's Mark item will return you to the last lantern you used, but you drop all of your echos at the spot where you used it. You can think of it this way, when you die you auto-use the Hunter's Mark but you can manually use it whenever you want. Keep in mind, whether you use the Bold Hunter's Mark or the other one, both cause enemies to respawn.

Awesome. Thanks for taking the time to explain everything. I think I may have gotten the Bold Hunters Mark, but not 100% sure on that.

I also am going to check out the Saw Spear first before making a decision to upgrade anything. That seems like a wise choice. LOL

Just got to work so have a long day ahead of me, but looking forward to trying to take on Father G later on tonight. I am mentally preparing myself now LOL

Big Father G, he ain't no pushover :p

Think of the badges as loot. Instead of bosses dropping the actual weapons and armour, they drop a badge which allows you to purchase the loot.

Little tip, the music box only works twice and not in his final form. He hates being parried and is scared of fire in his final form as well. Also going upstairs and across a roof rinse repeat is a route he doesn't like when he's mad ;) He gets really fast but doesn't like stairs lol.

This game is MASSIVE.
Im seriously impressed with the level design of this game, everything fits together really well, one area leading to another.
I just beat some king ontop of a castle, and checking out websites, im about 1/3rd though the game, and thats after 20+ hours of game play.
Save your blood echos, level up when you can with strength and vitality.
Umm what else.. Madman's knowledge gives you insight, but I still haven't worked out what it actually does, even after getting nearly 50 of them.
Some drops give you blood echos when u use them. Check your inventory for anything that says 'convert for blood echos' - use them when ure back at hunters dream.
Dont forget to repair your main weapon(s) often once you unlock it. Once you break it, you gotta buy another and do the whole upgrade process again.
I think thats the only advice I can give.

For Father G, what I did was buy 10 molotovs, and used them all the start. I then used a fast weapon (default will do) and rolled into attack, spammed R1 two or three times, rolled out. Hopefully if timed right you wont take any damage.
Use a gun just as he attacks to momentarily stun him, if your close enough, press R1 for a awesome huge dealing attack. In phase 3 just dont get close to him, extend ure main weapon (L1) and just time ure attacks, rolling away after every hit.

Took me well over 5 goes to kill him but good news is so far, hes the hardest boss.

I don't really know why people say that Father G was tough. I died the first time I fought him, because I wasn't prepared to go into a boss fight. But the very next time I killed him. He is a pretty basic fight in my opinion.

I used the trees to block his gun fire in phase one, I used the gravestones to slow him down and avoid his large swings in phase two, and then just proper dodging in his last phase.

I don't understand why so many people are/were having trouble with him.

@Anarkii - a note about insight

The more you have, the more you see... and the harder the game becomes. (new enemies appear in areas, other enemies become tougher, most gain additional move sets) I believe the thresholds are 10, 15, 20, 30, 40 up to 99...which is the most you can hold. >.>

Has anyone encountered server downtime yet? When I booted up the game for the first time the other week, I got a message saying they were going to have scheduled maintenance on Wednesday nights or something, but that never happened. And I assumed that was EVERY Wednesday night, but I've always been able to play online. I haven't see any maintenance messages since. Is that still going on?

The King on top of the castle was hard as hell for me. I guess if you encounter the memory leak that makes bosses easier he wouldn't be as hard.

Big Eb has been the hardest so far though.

It is a big game. There's a fair bit of side content you could completely miss first time through.

I'm still enjoying the game but I do have another gripe: Sound.

The sound seems to be binary, it's either on or off. You never seem to slowly move closer to something, the sound file just suddenly kicks on.

Furthermore the sounds aren't synced very well. Especially with some of the gestures. The brush off cape of w/e gesture has like 4 or 5 footsteps with it even when not moving.

Are you sure it's not a problem with your setup? I have used the PS Gold headset almost exclusively for all of my play time so far, and I haven't noticed these issues. I'll pay extra attention tonight, or whenever I play next, to see if I get the same behavior.

I switch between an admittedly cheaper external speaker set-up and a pair of premium Denon headphones. I don't know what else could affect it, we're all on the same system/hardware other than what I mentioned.

Just to chime in, never had any issues with the sound either.

Also just fought Father G for the first time. I died as seems customary, but got close to 50%. Did not use the sound box either. Off for Round 2. I love how

I can just take that elevator down to him real quick.

And it does not look like I am going to get a Round 2 tonight. My dog is being extra needy since it is the 2nd night my wife is away, and the bastard just will not let me play without making me feel incredibly guilty. Going to try and tire him out if possible LOL

Let him try taking on Father G. That is tiring :p

I hope some new to Souls go back and play Demons, Dark and Dark Souls 2 afterwards.

Lots of NOPE moments like this :p

LOL I was just telling a coworker who is on the fence about picking up Blooborne (I would describe him as a "normal" gamer, as he tends to play the bigger games like COD and AC) that I may very well go back and check out some of the earlier games if I ever make it through Bloodborne.

In fact if my memory serves me correct, one of the games was part of + at one point in time right? If so it is part of my library as even if I have no interest in a + game when they release it, I add it to my library.

Demon Souls was part of PS+ in 2013, and Dark Souls was part of GwG on 360 last year.

Nice. I can check out Demon Souls then. Unfortunately my 360 is no more. It died. And thanks to you that was the best gaming console I ever owned. (Y)

So two things...

1) Yahtzee aka Zero Punctuation reviews Bloodborne this week.

2) Once you beat a Boss do they keep respawning like other enemies? Or are they dead for good? I realized I have not gone back to where I fought the Cleric Beast again so I sincerely do not know. Is the grey fog going to be there for good? Is there any reason to fight a boss again if they do in fact respawn?

Finally, if I really have trouble with Father G tonight, should I summon some AI help? Is that a one time deal? If not, can I just do it right on the bottom left of the stairs by the main first lantern?

The bosses do not respawn once you kill them, and the boss fogs are gone as soon as you kill the boss.

However,

once you start doing chalice dungeons, you can/will see the same boss more than once. Every floor in a chalice dungeon has a random boss at the end. From what I understand, there are 30 bosses unique to chalice dungeons. Both main-game bosses and chalice-only bosses are eligible to be a floor boss. Similar to the main game, floor bosses do not respawn once they are killed.

AI help is only on two bosses. Father G isn't one of them because, time for an ahhhh moment, he's the NPC you can summon for help with the Cleric beast ;) He hasn't gone fully mad before you meet him in the Graveyard.

Ring the bell for help though, you'll summon someone from online.

Pfft, I did not need no stinking help. 5 times and Father G is History. :punk: Honestly should have had him on my 3rd time, I was literally ONE HIT away and just got too cocky. Was so frustrated. I actually hope I am not jinxing myself, but did not find him nearly as hard as I thought he would be. In fact when he changed, I did not run, I just bum rushed him, and he was taken care of with a few well timed side steps. Also never even used the music box.

With that said, I also retrieved my Blood Echoes every time I fought him, so yeah, that is the most I ever have had in one run.

I am now going to I have no idea where!!! LOL

Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD. Some of the features of VirtualBox are: Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox. • OK, now ask yourself how are they going to enforce that law? By requiring every single adult to prove their age and provide their legal identity documents to an UNREGULATED 3rd party company that already has a long track record of multiple data breaches. Not to mention, parliament have voted AGAINST this ban, twice, and Starmer is going ahead anyway. So, where's the democracy here, because that looks like dictatorship to me. The solution here is parental responsibility, not government control. Run some public service announcements on TV and UK social media teaching parents how to setup parental controls. That's already been proven to actually work. But the, this is not and has NEVER been about keeping kids safe. It's about control and monitoring. Watching what you're doing online and controlling what you can see and what you can say.
    • Interesting read. I knew the adware was quite controversial at the time, however never realised to the point The Guardian wrote an article about Patchou. I just said no and enjoyed his creation, I’d probably be a lot more wary of something like that today though.
