Welcome to the Neowin photo gallery (now yearly, as voted by Neowin members!)! Here you can post your pictures and discuss your photography techniques.

Please be mindful of our members on dial-up and try to keep the dimensions of the pics and the size of the files to a respectable size for 1024 x 768 viewers. Please refrain from quoting images in your replies.

I will also ask that you link to images on your own space, as much as possible.

Try to put more details from your camera settings (EXIF) and also talk about what you have done with photoshop (or similar).
There are a lot of photographers here that like your editing skills and would like to learn more.

The previous thread can be found here.

Posting your photos is made easier thanks to a member contribution! Argote created a Flickr to IPB webapp, thanks! [direct link to app

SteveB seems busy, so went ahead :p speaking of flickr @ argote, dude seems to be MIA ?

Thanks! :) Yeah her eyes are pretty amazing, you don't see a lot of those around. I'm probably going to have another shooting with her at some point, right now we're discussing ideas. Should be fun :)

Went snowshoeing over the weekend.

Shot with my Nokia 920, and edited with Adobe Photoshop for Windows Phone to enhance the clarity, and to convert to black and white.

Last night, Earth was struck by one of the strongest geomagnetic storms in recent memory. The result? Aurora borealis! I've been chasing them for sometime, and last night, braving 50+ MPH winds blasting the shore of Lake Ontario, I finally got to seem them. What an unbelievable sight they are. Pictures just don't do them justice as seeing them in person. My only wish was that I had remembered to grab my better camera... :/

Researchers have captured the world's first 3,200-megapixel image
      by Ather Fawaz

Image via SLAC Researchers at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory at Stanford, California have captured the world's largest single-shot image. Comprised of 3,200 megapixels (MP), the image was captured using an array of 189 imaging sensors that are being developed to be integrated into the world’s largest digital camera that is currently under construction at SLAC.

Image via SLAC The gargantuan sensor required to capture 3,200 MP shots is more than two feet wide and its focal plane is enormous, large enough to capture the size of a portion of a sky equivalent to 40 full moons. Strictly speaking, the sensor contains 189 individual 16MP sensors, or charge-coupled devices (CCDs), and each individual pixel is about 10 microns wide. To put this all into perspective:

Using this gargantuan sensor, the researchers captured a variety of different subjects, including the intricate head of Romanesco (broccoli) and a photo of Vera Rubin, who was one of the key figures in the discovery of dark matter. Given the size of the photos, the team has developed a web app that will allow you to check out the incredibly detailed pictures. You may click on the links below to be redirected to the photo viewer.

The raison d'être for this sensor, however, is at the Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile in mid-2021, where it will produce one panoramic image of the complete Southern sky every few nights for 10 years, capturing over 20 billion galaxies. The aim of this entire initiative is to further our understanding of dark matter, dark energy, and the cosmos in general. For more details, you may check out this webpage.
