DaVinci Resolve 21 lands with Hollywood-level "Photo" feature and massive AI upgrades

Blackmagic Design has announced DaVinci Resolve 21, a big update that introduces the Photo page, allowing you to use advanced color tools to edit still photos. The new version is currently in beta and is available to download for free from Blackmagic’s website.

The new update also introduces new AI tools such as IntelliSearch for fast content searching, CineFocus for focal point adjustment, tools to refine faces, and more. This update also brings over 70 new graphics to Fusion, Fairlight folders simplify audio track management, there are improvements to keyframing, MultiMaster trim passes are enabled, and there is support for layer list node graphs.

With the new Photo page, users can import and manage photographs, this feature integrates with the color page for node-based grading, giving access to Hollywood color grading tools for still images. Other tools that you can use on your images include primary color correction, curves, qualifiers, power windows, and node editor to adjust color in artistic ways.

Blackmagic also says:

“The Photo page lets customers reframe and crop images at their original source resolution and aspect ratio. Every adjustment preserves the full quality of their original file, so customers can refine their composition at any time without ever affecting image quality.

LightBox view on the Photo page gives customers an overview of their entire album with grades applied. Select any image and grade it live while seeing the results update across the whole collection in real time. Filter by graded, ungraded, star rating, flag and clip color for fast library management.”

The Photo page also lets you create Albums based on shoot days, camera models, or any other criteria. You can also save time by tagging and making raw setting adjustments in batches. You also get Camera Controls which lets you tether Sony or Canon cameras directly to DaVinci Resolve for live image capture.
