Play / Pause no longer works from my keyboard :(  I am using a Cosair K70 RGB multimedia keyboard and this used to work, now it does not!  I push play/ pause and it pauses then plays again... its supposed to be a toggle.

Tested with 1.5.4 its working fine.  1.5.6 ... not working!

That's unexpected. Media keys support hasn't been touched since 1.5.4.

Have you re-tested with 1.5.4 after testing with 1.5.6? This would rule-out external factors (you can use the portable 1.5.4 version to avoid messing with your collection. It will create a local collection in the folder where the portable version resides, which you can safely delete after testing).

Are you, by any chance, using a Windows 10 insider build? I have reports that build 17063 breaks the Dopamine system notification. Just trying to rule out this too.

Is your Logitech issue new since Dopamine 1.5.6 or have media keys never worked with Dopamine when using the Logitech keyboard? Logitech is known to use custom software (SetPoint) to map media key shortcuts, which interferes with the default way of doing things. So you'll need to be exact when replying to this question.

Could your issue be related to this? Dopamine issue 578 and How do I get my Logitech media buttons to control Spotify

My apologizes I upgraded to 1.5.6 and this time I rebooted and it's working fine.  Sorry for the trouble.  I never use insider builds, Windows 10 has enough issues as it is lol

Sorry for the late reply, batteries were getting low on the keyboard. Replaced them and the issue is gone...

I'm not sure why, exactly, but Dopamine doesn't want to play a folder from the context menu, Just shows an empty playlist. Trying to find a replication.

Guys, when I use the context menu in the Windows File Explorer to listen to an album with Dopamine, it doesn't work. It opens Dopamine with the miniplayer, but it stays blank and nothing gets played. Is this happening just to me?

Thanks!

You're not alone. That's the same issue as reported 2 posts up. I broke that when adding another feature in one of the latest builds. Version 1.5.8 will fix it (release is in a day or 2).

Yes it is. I'd wait a day though. I discovered an issue in version 1.5.8, where albums don't show when an artist or genre only has 1 album. I'm working on a fix.

20th Anniversary of iPod and a look at an early prototype
      by Moshe Jacobs

October 23rd, 2021 marked the 20th anniversary of the most iconic music player in history, the iPod. Apple's once leading music product has seen sales of over 400 million units to date as reported by Cult of Mac. Although there had been rumors swirling about a Fall 2021 revision of the iPod Touch, nothing has come of it quite yet. Even though the iPad has been relegated to a product buried in the Apple Store online not immediately apparent to purchase, it has seen such popularity through the years that more than 10 models in total ranging from the original iPods, iPod minis, iPod shuffles, and iPod nanos have been released.

Blog writer from Panic, Cabel Sasser, has shared a first look at a very early prototype of the original iPod intended to mask the actual product design while development was occurring. Having seemingly aged through the years, what was most likely a white body has now taken on a yellowish appearance.

Despite the behemoth size of this unit, it shares a display identical in size to the original consumer iPod. The prototype unit also included a standard headphone port as well as FireWire like the original iPod. A large scroll wheel was featured at the top left of the unit which, according to one of the founders of the iPod Tony Fadell, was poorly functional.

Other parts of the button interface include an Up, Down, Left, and Right selection that may have corresponded to Menu, Play/Pause, Back, and Forward respectively.

Despite the lack of similarity in physical aesthetics between this prototype and the original iPod released, the unit does date to September 3rd, 2001 indicating a date close to the release of the original iPod on October 23rd, 2001.

For more pictures, and a much more detailed look at the prototype unit, check out the Panic's blog.

foobar2000 is an advanced freeware audio player for the Windows platform. It features the simplest, most minimalistic interface you'll ever see in this kind of program. Other features include full unicode support, ReplayGain support and native support for several popular audio formats.

      foobar2000 features:

Supported audio formats: MP3, MP4, AAC, CD Audio, WMA, Vorbis, FLAC, WavPack, WAV, AIFF, Musepack, Speex, AU, SND... and more with additional components. Gapless playback. Full unicode support. Easily customizable user interface layout. Advanced tagging capabilities. Support for ripping Audio CDs as well as transcoding all supported audio formats using the Converter component. Full ReplayGain support. Customizable keyboard shortcuts. Open component architecture allowing third-party developers to extend functionality of the player foobar2000 1.6.8 Beta 1 changelog:

Fixed visual glitches when scrolling lists horizontally with mouse wheel through Logitech software. Improved output format negotiation with exclusive output. Fixed failure to install components from store-mode (uncompressed) zip archives. Improved handling of malformed FLAC files, prevented crash from too many cuesheet entries. Correct reporting of AC3 channel count in MP4 files even without AC3 component installed (before it would incorrectly report stereo). Allowed UTF-8 cuesheets without UTF-8 header. Fixed htmlspecialchars misuse in component update list / component page link. Mapped MP4 @mvn field to "movement name". Prevented the same folder from being added more than once to the Media Library. Properties dialog: deferred logging of user-entered field names for the dropdown list until the tags are saved, effectively preventing typos from being remembered. Fixed a bug causing alt+f4 (and possibly other keyboard events) to be disregarded if mouse pointer is above specific interactive portion of a window (list controls, buttons in editboxes). Improved handling of files with malformed APE tags - some files were entirely unplayable. More thorough 'remove tags' for Vorbis, Opus and Musepack. Fixed text truncation in ReplayGain Scanner preferences page. Download page: foobar2000 1.6.8 Beta 1 | 4.5 MB (Freeware)

YouTube is forcing popular Discord music bot Rythm offline, millions impacted
      by Usama Jawad

YouTube has recently been on the warpath against Discord music bots. For those unaware, this piece of technology allows users to play music from YouTube videos on Discord servers. Citing copyright violations, Google first shut down the Groovy bot a couple of weeks ago, and now, it is forcing Rythm offline.

Rythm is a massively popular music bot which was installed on 20 million Discord servers and was being used by over 560 million people. Yoav, who is the developer behind the bot, stated that the service was being powered by over 4TB of RAM and 1,000 CPU cores. Google's cease-and-desist letter states that Rythm should be shut down within seven days, and the developers are complying and shuttering the service on September 15.

The shutdown does not only impact 560 million end-users but also the bot's developer who was involved in this project in a full-time capacity. In a statement to The Verge, Yoav went on to say that:

The bot's official website echoes similar sentiments, but an interesting note over there also emphasizes that work is underway on "something brand new in the music space that will revolutionize how we all listen to music". As such, the Rythm team has advised users to keep the bot installed on their servers. It remains to be seen what the developers have in store, keeping in view YouTube's copyright restrictions.
