I am curious how the events of the last few days will impact testing/milestone completion and ASAP outlook.

The magnifying glass has been on ASAP for the regime imposed/agreed to, for SpaceX testing/qualification.

I have a feeling that if anyone still wanted to "split hairs", that will stop and this show will be motivated. Schedules at the ISS still have flexibility and I would be disappointed if not used to let CC launch when ready...no schedule BS.

There had been talk, first about Starliner then Crew Dragon, of turning the crewed flight tests into full operational missions. I expect that'll change from "we may" to "hell yes."

They had previously manifested 6 PCM's for each vehicle (post certification missions; PCM 1-12).

Launch Dates to be Updated More Regularly as Commercial Crew Flights Draw Nearer

Quote

SpaceX and the Commercial Crew Program are working together to have the hardware and associated activities ready for its first test flight – Demo-1 – in December 2018, but the launch will occur in January to accommodate docking opportunities at the orbiting laboratory. Boeing’s targeted readiness for its Orbital Flight Test is March 2019. Both test flights will be uncrewed missions.

NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley are training to fly on SpaceX’s Crew Dragon Demo-2 mission, with a planning date of June 2019. NASA astronauts Eric Boe and Nicole Aunapu Mann and Boeing astronaut Chris Ferguson are slated for Boeing’s Crew Flight Test targeted for August 2019.

As with all human spaceflight development, learning from each test and adjusting as necessary to reduce risk to the crew may override targeted launch dates.

Looks like ISS port activity is determining this...but SpaceX is ready and Boeing soon after....subject to the usual changes.

It also has to do with NASA slow-walking milestone certifications, taking much longer than the contracted for times. GAO has been whacking them pretty hard for this.

so with the recent happenings with the soyuz, do you think the test flight will happen this year or are we into 2019 now?

DM-1 can't launch until Japan's HTV-7 unberths, which is late November.

The previous schedule was to,

launch Crew Dragon DM-1 (uncrewed) in December. The DM-1 vehicle would be reused for the In Flight Abort test in early 2019, then DM-2 (crewed) would fly around April.

The revised schedule is now DM-1 in January, the In Flight Abort in May and DM-2 in June.

That said, the DM-1 vehicle and booster have been collecting dust at KSC for at least a month.

Reed: the Falcon 9 first and second stages for the Demo-1 (uncrewed) test flight are in final testing at McGregor, shipping soon to Cape.

SpaceX are almost there...The stages should be on their way soon. The COPV issue should be closed off shortly. The parachute anomaly should be signed off as well...leaving the load and go test with "static fires" and launches ...3 launches (DM-1, abort and DM-2) for a 5 cycle test. Lastly...a total of 7 Block 5 COPV finalized launches and then good to go.

The talking heads are at it again at ASAP..vague as usual and the vendors beginning to bite back.

Safety panel fears Soyuz failure could exacerbate commercial crew safety concerns

https://spacenews.com/safety-panel-fears-soyuz-failure-could-exacerbate-commercial-crew-safety-concerns/

This panel needs to get to the point or stop nagging and just let CC get things done. The paperwork is the issue.
