Aston Martin is negotiating a shock return to Formula 1 with Red Bull Racing next season.

The British sports car manufacturer is in talks over a deal to become a brand partner with four-time world champion Red Bull Racing in exchange for brokering a deal for the team to run the championship winning Mercedes-Benz F1 engine. An Aston Martin spokesman declined to comment on the potential deal when contacted by Autocar.

Aston Martin is 5% owned by Mercedes and competed in F1 for just two seasons, in 1959 and 1960, with very limited success.

Under the deal Mercedes would be recognised as the official engine partner of Red Bull Racing, but Aston Martin would become a technical partner and have branding on the cars, most likely around the air box that sits over the engine.

The deal is said to have the blessing of Mercedes, which is eager to run more customer teams to offset the costs of its investment in F1, and because it does not consider Aston Martin to be a competitor for road car sales, despite their strategic partnership.

F1 insiders have drawn parallels with the deal that allows Lotus to run Mercedes engines at present despite the potential conflict with the road car manufacturer of the same name.

The deal is understood to have been instigated by Aston Martin boss Andy Palmer and Aston Martin's director of marketing and communications Simon Sproule, both of whom were credited for the long-term sponsorship deal that has put Infiniti branding on the Red Bull Racing cars, despite the team being powered by Renault engines. Infiniti is the upmarket brand of Nissan, which is in an alliance with Renault.

Red Bull Racing has a contract to compete with Renault engines until the end of 2016, but the championship-winning relationship has soured over the past 18 months as the French firm has struggled to match the pace of Mercedes.

Last month, Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz appeared to be trying to force a split with Renault when he claimed in an interview that Renault

The past couple of races were a bit dull but this one was pretty good, even before the rain hit. Mercedes are still by far the fastest car but if they don't sort out their clutch problems quickly it's going to cost them eventually. And I'm really impressed by Williams, Mercedes still have an obvious edge but they seem to be out developing Ferrari at the moment, which is an impressive effort given their smaller budget. And the strategic calls between driver and car were perfect today, Mercedes may have got Monaco wrong but they did everything right today.

Lotus has been able to postpone a winding-up hearing for two weeks after being summoned to the High Court in a legal battle with a number of creditors.

The Lotus Formula 1 Ltd company is facing a financial settlement with creditors after being handed a winding-up petition at the Companies Court this Monday (6th July) with judge Mr Registrar Briggs present, but the hearing has been delayed by 14 days to allow the parties to find an out-of-court settlement.

It is believed the Enstone-based team is waiting for funds to come in to pay its creditors, however, if they are unable to find a resolution over the next two weeks Lotus could be threatened with administration which could put its F1 future under threat.

Was hoping for a 20+ second penalty for both Mercedes drivers for the childish pit stunt

On that note, the teams are simply gonna be warned at Hungary that they'll face penalties if they repeat it, so Mercedes have got away with it.

I think that whole situation with times being deleted if fully on the run-off after Copse is nonsense. Level the playing field: if someone is taking advantage, let them all take advantage. If anything, it created more confusion -- especially towards the end of each qualy session -- than actually enhanced the situation. If there is something wrong with a circuit, change it. However, changing the playing rules from one stage to another is in bad faith.

Williams were a mess and it was embarrassing for Rob Smedley to pretend like they didn't screw up with the team orders call.

Ferrari still trying to find performance from somewhere. It's all well and good trying to get Bottas or Hulk as Kimi's replacement for next year, but there is only so much a driver can do with a car.

First thing I read today, truly sad, I knew it was an uphill battle but I always hoped he would somehow make it through.

First death in F1 for nearly 20 years :(

Thoughts are with his friends and family in this difficult time.

RIP Jules

    • Microsoft released new Defender update for Windows 11, 10, Server ISO installations by Sayan Sen Microsoft releases new Windows Defender update packages very frequently to protect against various newly discovered malware. Once a while every three months or so, the company also pushes out these updates to Windows images (WIM and VHD) and ISOs, that are used to install Windows. Hence with the newest Windows 11 update available via the official MCT tool, you should get these definitions. This update package is necessary as a Windows installation image may contain old, outdated anti-malware definitions and software binaries. Aside from better security, these updates can also provide improved performance benefits in some cases. When a new Windows installation is set up, there may be a temporary security risk due to outdated Microsoft Defender protection in the OS installation images. This happens because the antimalware software included in these images might not be up to date. Thus Microsoft says that these updated definitions essentially help close this protection gap. Microsoft delivered the latest security definitions for Windows images via security intelligence update version 1.445.323.0. The Defender package version is also the same. It applies to Windows 11, Windows 10 ESU, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021, Win 10 Ent LTSC 2019, Win 10 Ent LTSB 2016, Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server 2016. Microsoft writes: "This package updates the anti-malware client, anti-malware engine, and signature versions in the OS installation images to following versions: Platform version: 4.18.26040.7 Engine version: 1.1.26040.8 Security intelligence version: 1.447.236.0" From Microsoft's security bulletin, we learn that the security intelligence update version 1.447.236.0 was released early last month and adds threat detections for various malware like trojan, backdoor exploits, ransomware, stealers, AutoKMS, and more. For those wondering, the latest intelligence update is version 1.451.297.0 at the time of writing.
