Hope not...it will upset their viewers to much hyping up his character if he is a no show

how many times are they obliged to mention Spock, every episode Spock Spock Spock Spock Spock.. Personally I've no interest in seeing Spock..  It's like the itchy and scratchy and poochie episode of the Simpson's, if  poochie isn't in the scene all the other characters have to ask, where's poochie.... Anywho I'm rolling my eyes a lot and I'm finding the religious undertones frustrating...

They'll likely find Spock at the mid season point he'll then disappear and come back at the end of season though. Burnham is the "poochie" character though when she's not in a scene they're either talking about her or needing her for saving the day

Anyone not rolling their eyes at the new portrayal of Section 31 doesn't understand what they're watching

Burnham was hardly a key character in this episode, this was all about Tilly and Stamance.   Burnham, like Spock in TOS, is the character that's always around and does something in every episode.  How is this a issue?    I also don't see what the issue with their version of section 31?  To me, it fits, specially how they have the most advanced tech (TNG style communicators for example) way before the rest of the fleet gets it.

I am interested in seeing Spock as well as many.  Spock has been in TOS, TNG, and many of the movies.  He is a main and important character across all Trek.  I just wish they would stop teasing him and show him.

Well one thing, when we where introduced to section 31 in deep space nine no-one had heard of them, they where such a secret organization, that was the point, but somehow everyone has heard of them in discovery.. Spock.. Also the burnham is just in it too much, she narrated the intro and epilogue making the episode about her even though it wasn't...Spock..  And personally I just don't like the character, that's the main problem, as much as they try she's not likeable..

Your right,  burnham is poochie

A gay happy end. Yay!

I guess so? However we've been told by the producers this will have major consequences for some of the characters. I would assume one of them, we all know how that might play out though.

Clearly they're not even attempting any tie-in with previous Star Trek shows they've simply picked up another existing plot and are spinning it in a completely different form. Just like the season 1 Klingons who didn't look or act like Klingon's in the slightest. Create something new and run with rather than taking something existing and making a mess. Enterprise for all it's faults introduced new elements.

This weeks greatest comedy moment the Section 31-A "mother ship" has holo-emiters for camouflage, not an original idea but wouldn't that tech have really assisted Starfleet in a full scale war even before they're were taking a butt kicking from every direction?

Well this show is firmly at the bottom of my list of Trek shows, it is becoming a chore to get through it. It's like Days of our lives in space :/

It's gone from comedic to full blown idiotic, as the writing becomes worse and the characters weaker. Hopefully the (rumored to be) stacked Viacom board put this experiment down. Even if CBS All Access does survive they could be making two shows for what this one costs

You do remember that Netflix is paying for this show and its rumoured to be a 5 year contract. 😛 I've really enjoyed this season more than the first, especially with it bringing the show into the established canon as promised.

So pathetic how some people who don't like this seem to want it to end.  Fine, you don't like it - so stop watching, or do you just like to complain.

Many people do like it, and you want them to go without because your bruised nostalgia is so threatened.

While Netflix fees funded the entire first season of Discovery therefore eliminating risk for CBS disappointing results saw them renegotiating for season 2 they also refused the "short treks" while CBS were having a fire sale on the licencing fee. What did they do with the gift when CBS virtually gave them away just prior to season 2? They buried them in the trailers section.

Besides us old farts, what young person would even recognize any tie ins from other Trek shows unless they go back and watch all of them?  I am better not many of the younger people would know enough for this to be a bother.   Also, TOS is way to low tech for most people to watch anyway.  Discovery also takes place in the TOS days and on TOS, they did not have holo emitters, touch screens, and many other things that the Discovery show has.  Or any of the latest Trek movies.  This is a new spin/story and does not need to have tie ins.  If that is what you are expecting, you are not going to like the show.

Personally, I am enjoying it as it is a new spin/take on things.  However, will be interesting to see how the new ST show with Patrick Stewart/Picard works out.  I am betting a lot of TNG regs will be making a return/cameos so this may be the show for you.

One other thing, Discovery mentions a different chief engineer of the Enterprise and it was not Scotty.  And wasn't Spock both the a science officer and 1st Officer?  In Discovery, the 1st Officer of the Enterprise is a woman.  I was also hoping for Kirk to be in Discovery as Pike was only in Season 1 of TOS and not really mentioned much more than that.  And in Discovery, it was mentioned that the Enterprise was just getting back from its 5yr mission which would mean that Kirk would have been the captain and Scotty would have been chief engineer...if you go along with the TOS story line.

Edit:  Apparently, Discovery took place 10 years before the Kirk crew.  However, this was never mentioned before Discovery and something that Discovery has changed.   Apparently Spock was supposed to have served on the Enterprise for longer than what TOS let on.  Spock had apparently severed on a few 5yr missions on the Enterprise.   TOS only had 1 5yr mission and didnt mention previous ones from what I remember.

And if Discovery was supposed to take place 10yrs before the Kirk crew, then the only real tie in would be the Enterprise with Archers crew.  The TOS crew and story line didnt even exist then.

I don't really give a flying what age someone is, when using the existing brand especially when choosing to do a prequel at least try and adhere to it. If that can't be done or isn't possible simply don't piggy back on the established. It was clear however from comments by "hands" that they were expecting all existing fans just dumping money on a subscription service. That hasn't happened.

It's already been covered licencing right will make that practically impossible

You missed the point.  You mentioned there is no tie ins and I mentioned that the ones who would get the tie ins are older people.  They need to open it up for different audiences and sadly, the older generations who know more about Trek are fading away.

Anyway, it is obvious this show is not for you so may want to look at something else.  I for one and enjoying S2 more than S1 and will continue to watch until it goes off the air.

Not in the slightest and if the existing Star Trek audience is disappearing why use the Star Trek brand banking on said fans signing up for the new show? Something which has not occurred however season 2 has brought in known characters which producers previously stated would not happen.

What made the Star Trek licence so lucrative for Paramount over the years was merchandising and the back catalog the later in particular boomed when new series and movies were released. That golden goose has been cooked.

More of the audience will not get the tie ins like us older people.  They younger gen will also not go back and watch things like TOS or even TNG to understand more of the Trek universe.  And as far as signing up for the new show, the latest Trek movies were popular and had a different spin on things.  My guess CBS was just getting greedy and trying to capitalize on that popularity.  Just like Netflix did with the Marvel shows.

What are you considering the requirement for a tie in though? What could they tie in that you think will be overly complex using the history Starfleet as a decryption key :? As I've previously posted what they do tie-in does not relate to previous existence. Example why bring in a section 31 that is nothing like that created on DS9 or seen on ENT? Why not just introduce some sort of advanced technology group who have gone rogue?

Well yeah I put that in a post 20 minutes ago..

If the rumors about CBS and Vicom becoming one again are true, and it looks like it, then that is the only way things will line up 100% which will make some people happy.   Those who like the show right now are fine with the level of difference we have.    We'll probably know more about the business side of things by years end, either way season 2 is done.   If things go the way people hope, season 3 should be pretty different.

Go somewhere else with that Midnight's Edge BS. It's a lie, plain & simple.

There WILL be more Short Treks when the current season concludes. Netflix did NOT fund the series. They made a deal with CBS for ALL Trek shows and Moonves joked that their deal basically paid for Discovery - because it was so much.

NOT because they were actually paying for Discovery!

    • What I like about Paint is using it almost exclusively for cropping and resizing images I get elsewhere--it's quick, easy and cheap... I keep it glued to my taskbar, in fact.
    • I still remember it fondly today. It was so cool to work in 64-color Half Bright mode and 4.096-color HAM mode (interlaced) when x86 was still in 4-color CGA or 16-color EGA low res. C= never realized what it had until it was far too late--the failure of C= was the failure of its top management. The C= Amiga was 20 years ahead of its time, I always thought. It didn't hurt that in only 512k of chip memory, the Amiga could preemptively multitask when Apple was still doing gray scale graphics on tiny screens and along with everyone else was doing cooperative multitasking (running more than one app at a time in resident memory, but you could only run one of them at a time--had to manually switch between them.) I had a ball with AREXX scripting running between programs that had AREXX ports so that when you sent other applications data and instructions, those running applications could process the same in real time to output! Memories...

It is not available for people running the standard commercial builds of Windows--only for the beta test Insider's group.
