Steal on hard drives!

Recommended Posts

right, I missed this seemingly incredible offer, didn't see this thread, anywho...

A. Isn't there a Hard Disk physical limit of 137 GB UNLESS you're on ULTRA ATA?!??!!?

So why would there be a 160 gb ATA-100 drive!?!?

B. If anyone got the 200 GB drive with only a 2 mb cache..... eeew...

C. ATA-100 is kinda slow anyways

So, yes, while they were DEFINITELY insane steals for prices like that, you still have to realize these aren't the nicest drives anyways.....

No, the 137GB limit is for older, non-P3 (essentially--that time period) BIOS'es. That's all. Any new mobo can take it. And no, the 160GB drive is the SE -- 8MB cache model. Ultra-ATA is ATA-66. ATA-100 is UDMA-4 (UltraATA 4) (someone check me if I'm wrong). Get your facts straight, man. These are 10X better than any drive you've got in your PC's ;)

so I guess you won't be ordering any then eh?

I agree it would be ideal to get an 8mb cache and either SATA or ATA133, but hey there's that whole deal about looking an *almost* gift horse in the mouth. It's $20. I can put up with a little bit slower of a 160GB drive for $20.

thank you very much for this post, currently the only still valid drive is I think on the 2nd-3rd page for a 2mb 160GB WD.

i havent gotten this email yet... i am hoping he is playing a cruel joke...

If anyone is interested, here is the legality of it. If you have received any kind of confirmation email that states a price, that constitutes a receipt.

And a receipt is a contractual document. So you are entitled at THAT price.

I had to look into this in GREAT depth recently for work.

Ah, that law is UK based. It was due to a legal precedent that occurred a few years back.

Not sure hw the US stands, but as I recall it was fairly similar. A receipt still constitutes a binding agreement, and I believe a confirmation email containing a price is still a receipt.

    • Zen Browser 1.20.2b by Razvan Serea Zen Browser is a privacy-focused, open-source web browser built on Mozilla Firefox, offering users a secure and customizable browsing experience. It emphasizes privacy by blocking trackers, ads, and ensuring your data isn't collected. With Zen Mods, users can enhance their browser experience with various customization options, including features like split views and vertical tabs. The browser is designed for efficiency, providing fast browsing speeds and a lightweight interface. Zen Browser prioritizes user control over the browsing experience, offering a minimal yet powerful alternative to traditional web browsers while keeping your online activity private. Zen Browser’s DRM limitation Zen Browser currently lacks support for DRM-protected content, meaning streaming services like Netflix and HBO Max are inaccessible. This is due to the absence of a Widevine license, which requires significant costs and is financially unfeasible for the developer. Additionally, applying for this license would require Zen to be part of a larger company, similar to Mozilla or Brave. Therefore, DRM-protected media won't be supported in Zen Browser for the foreseeable future. Zen Browser offers features that improve user experience, privacy, and customization: Privacy-Focused: Blocks trackers and minimizes data collection. Automatic Updates: Keeps the browser updated with security patches. Zen Mods: Customizable themes and layouts. Workspaces: Organize tabs into different workspaces. Compact Mode: Maximizes screen space by minimizing UI elements. Zen Glance: Quick website previews. Split Views: View multiple tabs in the same window. Sidebar: Access bookmarks and tools quickly. Vertical Tabs: Manage tabs vertically. Container Tabs: Separate browsing sessions. Fast Profile Switcher: Switch between profiles easily. Tab Folders: Organize tabs into folders. Customizable UI: Personalize browser interface. Security Features: Inherits Firefox’s robust security. Fast Performance: Lightweight and optimized for speed. Zen Mods Customization: Deep customization with mods. Quick Access: Easy access to favorite websites. Open Source: Built on Mozilla Firefox with community collaboration. Community-Driven: Active development and feedback from users. GitHub Repository: Contribute and review the source code. Zen Browser 1.20.2b changelog: Security Mozilla Security Advisory 2026-54 New Features Updated to Firefox 151.0.3 Boosts now support a dark mode UI based on your system dark mode setting. • "This transition will take several years so we shouldn't bother doing it at all" is a naive take. This is completely normal for all specifications that cross-cut software, hardware and multiple industries. Look at the PCI specification for another example, consumers barely have PCI-E 5 yet PCI-SIG is working on PCI-E 8. AV2 will take multiple years to get adoption and even then, even a decade from now people will still have older hardware that doesn't support it. That's fine, because the savings still add up as newer devices add the hardware to deal with it. The goal is never to get 100% on the new spec overnight, but to gradually adopt it.
