SpaceX Super Heavy and Starship updates

Recommended Posts

SpaceX Boca Chica is celebrating tonight with expensive fireworks, in March?

Speculation: perhaps the NASA lunar Human Lander System down-select has been leaked to the competitors and Starshio HLS made the cut? It was to be announced in March.

We'll see...

Do we have any idea what the plan is for BN1? I mean will it be like SN5 where it has a mass simulator on top and it hops for 150m, or will they fit some kind of nose cone? How many engines will it get?

If they follow the SN pattern then BN1 would do load & pressure tests then a static fire like SN3/4, then a successor BN would do the first flight.

Early BNs will have 4 gimballed engines, with a full center cluster being 8. Outer ring = 20 fixed RMax engines (high thrust, no gimal).

didn't 7.2 pop?

7.x is a generic test tank designation used for testing new alloys, plumbing, autogenous pressurization hardware, etc.

ITs been a while since they popped one.

Re-reply

NASASpaceFlight.com is reporting,

https://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2021/03/starship-sn11-spacex-orbital-flight-summer/

BN-1: ground tests & static fire

BN2: ground tests, static fire, and hop(s ?)

BN3 + Starship SN-20:  ground tests, static fire(s) then a launch to orbit, targeting "by July 1," 2021

Even a few months of slips gets Starship to orbit this year.
