centered around a remembrance day I don't think. And I don't recall any of Trek using pins for remembrance days. I can only think of Captains Day as an event on the Enterprise D for kids.

Spoiler

It's really just their version of memorial day which is coming up.   In the grand scheme of things both this and Captains day are just a plot device to push the narrative.   Captains Day in TNG was just an excuse to stick Picard with kids (since he doesn't like kids) together.   And in the process let his character develop a bit.    This being La'an focused they used the idea of Remembrance day (Memorial day) as the backdrop to cover PTSD and losing ship mates on duty.

Hell, Voyager made up it's own holiday in one episode on the spot....so...   who cares?

I'll watch the episode again when I get the chance but I believe the Gorn main ship and the smaller attack ship that the shuttle was spying on was waiting at a higher orbit compared to how far down Enterprise was.    Remember when the other ship starts to get close to her it imploded.    I think the shuttle could take it for the small amount of time they'd be outside before getting back into the landing bay.    Also keep in mind the ship was already banged up from the initial attack before they could get the shields up.    So I think that just makes the strain on the ship more of a issue compared to if it was in working order.

Didn't like how preachy last episode got compared to current events.  Hopefully next episodes tone it down. I watch too escape the day to day not to be reminded of it.

Can't really blame the episode for that... It was filmed months ago, after all...

Just finished episode 5, not what I thought it would be from the preview teaser I saw.  They went in a interesting direction with it though this to was something we saw at the end of TOS.

Spoiler

Kirk had his body swap episode in the series final ep of season 3 iirc.  Don't know if any of the other shows did it, I don't remember.  Still, not badly done.  Also the B plot was fun.  The interrogation scene gave me some laughs.

It was a strong episode. Nothing world changing, but a nice lightly humorous episode which probably means they were saving money for something more action-y later on.

One thing though...

Spoiler

Can they please stop trying to ship Una and La'an? Those two characters have zero chemistry between them and just feels too forced...

I feel it's more like a big sister and little sister thing not anything more.

Spoiler

I think it works because their characters are supposed to both a bit wooden and anti-social. Riker as Nr1 was popular with the ladies and crew on and off duty, whereas Una "scares people" and that's the difference too.

I had some time to kill and rewatched the episode today...

Spoiler

The interrogation scene still makes me laugh.

There's also a teaser out for episode 6 but the end up getting pulled so I'm not going to post it here like before.

This weeks episode had a mix of action, humor, and some interesting character development.

Some big name drops in there to.

Overall I enjoyed the episode, and am really liking the dynamic that's developing between Spock and Chapel.  Sooo much better than how it was portrayed in TOS.

However...

Spoiler

I do not, and never HAVE, liked "space pirate" episodes where a dozen scruffy crooks can successfully take over a massive psuedo-military ship with hundreds of trained professional crew in a mere matter of minutes.  I find the whole concept to be ridiculous and utterly impossible.  I have always hated whenever Trek has done it, and I still hate it now.

My suspension of disbelief can only go so far...

I think it's clear that with this first season the writers are just going down the list of classic TOS hits, this week was the pirates, we had the sub battle, virus outbreak etc etc.     I expect them to branch it out more in season 2.  Episode 8 preview looks wild IMO.

Well... That was... different!

I've been enjoying this show but struggled with this episode.

Oddly enough, I remember TNG having episodes like this such as the one where the crew were turning in to amphibious creatures and the Enterprise was turning in to an ecosystem and I enjoyed the episode.

Edit: For clarity I'm referring to Season 7, Episode 19 titled Genesis.

I have to admit, I didn't hate it (and I spent a lot of time wondering if a certain alphabetically inclined entity was around) and the ending was quite.. emotional.  The cast's acting was wonderfully hammy. So much so that it was brilliant!

It's definitely one for the thinking Trek fan of eld rather than the more modern fan with a preference for fast paced action.

Absolutely, it wasn't a horrible episode. I think we just weren't expecting an episode like that. I spent the first half wondering what the hell was going on. 🤣

Which should be by design.   You don't know what's going on just like the Doctor doesn't.

Preview for next week has a horror vibe going.

    • I just wish they would put more love into Virtual Desktops. There is just so much more they could do.
    • Sounds like you just skimmed over the review, I answer all those questions in it. Although I admit I did not test if DTS works over the headphones, when I get some time I will test this. My personal use case is more speaker-driven (I cover this in the review too).
    • It actually does the same exact thing as yours, 7.1 virtual surround over headphones. From the product page: "Experience sound that surrounds you with 7.1 virtual surround, delivering a wider, more immersive soundstage for movies, games, and music." So both of them are two channel, with 7.1 virtual surround that only work in Headphones mode.
