Dirt 5 now launches November 6, getting closer to next-gen consoles

In May this year, Codemasters announced Dirt 5, the latest entry in the long-running off-road racing franchise, with an October 2020 launch window. However, like many other games this year, Codemasters revealed today that it is pushing back the launch, making fans wait until November 6 to get their hands on the title. This comes shortly after the studio delayed the title by a week last month.

Interestingly, the cross-gen game's revised launch date is attributed to wanting a "shorter timeframe" between the current and next-generation version launches. Codemasters has only confirmed that the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 versions will be available on November 6, with the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 versions only having a "later this year" launch window.

"DiRT 5 has received widespread critical acclaim, culminating with the game receiving the gamescom 2020 Best Racing Game Award on 30 August." said Codemasters chief executive Frank Sagnier. "The revised launch date will allow us to take advantage of the next generation console launches which are expected in time for the holiday season."

Microsoft has already confirmed its next-gen Xbox is releasing sometime in November, and Sony will most likely follow suit with the PlayStation 5. Thanks to the date adjustment, Dirt 5's next-gen version has a good chance of being a launch title on the two new consoles.

As previously confirmed, Codemasters will be offering free next-gen upgrades to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners of Dirt 5. In the coming weeks, the developer will be showing off next-gen exclusive features, multiplayer, new cars and locations, plus more.
