Do you have any programming experience? If not, how would you expect to get a job as a developer?

I actually want to get a job that doesn't involve coding. I was thinking of network engineer or systems engineer, but I'm still skeptical for a reason. Just saying

Look into 'Desktop Engineer/Technician' roles. This will allow you to tinker with most things, yet avoid the pit, that is coding... 😄

As others have said though, look to the future, don't dwell on the past. Most of us have bits of our past we regret/would like to delete, move forward & allow it to make you stronger.!

Best of luck..

as if it's that easy. As I said just because i recently had a background check done on me and nothing came up im suppose to think different? I've been told something different on discord servers, etc. As I said at the end of the day I'm still skeptical until otherwise.

The golden-rule of working in I.T, don't believe everything you hear/read on the internet; whether or not, from a user or website...! The advice your obtaining within this thread is sound, you just need to trust in it.!

Remember, when applying for any job, whats the worst they can say..? No, thank-you.?!? Don't beat yourself up... If it happens, apply for something else, their loss, etc. #staypositive

Absolutely not, you can obviously do much better then that, you know it too.!

If you get turned down for one I.T role, apply for another, somewhere else.! Companies don't pass around a black-book of people they've turned down for employment...

Listen, real-talk.! I've had SOOOOO many panic-attacks over the last twenty years in regards to police/security clearances, i can relate, trust... The worst thing thats ever come out of it, is some uncomfortable conversations.! You know what though, most/if not all of the times, it hasn't been a problem....

Do you want to know when it has been a problem for me...? When i've fuc*ed it up for my self by panicking & not applying/terminating an application, in fear of what may happen...!

Believe in yourself, take a deep breath & allow youself to move forward instead of holding yourself in the past,,, If you want to talk further, feel free to DM me, theres little more I could say to you over an open forum...

First of all talking isn't gonna fix a damn thing just like therapy isn't either. Like I dammit said. I'm skeptical until proven otherwise. Since you obviously think this is funny.

I take offence at you implying that i'm taking your posts as funny; please tell me where you get that impression from.?

It's 5am in the UK, honestly, I really could be sleeping. Instead, I saw a thread from someone who looked like they could use some words of wisdom from those 'who have been there', apologies for trying to help...

And also the arrest was expunged but so gotdamn what? Is that gonna matter to these ######ers during hiring? Think again cause it's not.

You should seek therapy.

I'm a dev, very senior. I hire devs. I've interviewed so many people it's insane. Sometimes my job is just interviewing people. I've seen all types, shy, arrogant, stupid, smart, young, old, entitled, self deprecating. I would not hire you. Not because of your lack of experience, or your criminal record (expunged or not), or even your general attitude towards people (sometimes even the biggest ###### is the biggest asset). I would not hire you, quite simply, and forthrightly, because you are an idiot.

You listen to no one. You seek no legitimate help. You do this crap for half a decade, and when people actually legitimately are trying you help (when they clearly should not at all) you accuse them of things and be an outright absolute jerkface. You are either a really terrible, albeit dedicated, troll... or... well... I wouldn't hire you.

This thread would have done well to stay locked.

Give it up. This guy isn’t right in the head. We all have tried to explain to him that he can do this and his background isn’t an issue  over the course of 5 years. He always throws it back in our face. Don’t expect it to change now. This thread was originally locked months ago. Not sure why it was re-opened. @Nick H.

I don't understand why you guys keep bringing up therapy as if anyone is gonna be willing to listen. As I said therapy didn't help me when my parents died years ago and I'm suppose to think it's going to be different now?

And how am I an idiot? Cause I want to find out the truth when it comes to getting employment?

Recently I found out from a manager at the grocery store I work for currently does background checks and they found nothing on there unless they would've said something. Anyways my question now is is that suppose to make a difference? No. I know a few of you are gonna have an issue with this, but I recently asked this question through a discord server and was told a different story regard employment. I'll just leave it at that.

They did a background check and found nothing.  Therefore, any further checks are going to find nothing.  Not hard to understand really.

Further in the thread you say:

"And also the arrest was expunged but so gotdamn what? Is that gonna matter to these ######ers during hiring? Think again cause it's not."

And how are these people doing the hiring going to know about any EXPUNGED arrest?  Would you tell them about it?

You don’t want truth. You never wanted truth. @Steven P. will you lock this again please?

From my understanding I thought all background checks aren't "created equal"

There are different levels yes (at least un UK), but unless you are going for ultra sensitive work the standard one would be the norm.

Well I'm not in the UK for one. And two, I would assume going for a job dealing with networks or databases is "ultra sensitive work" whether its a government job or not. Hell I would even assume that for a regular dev job. So as I said an expunged arrest isn't going to matter.

@Steven P. - come on man, close this thread.  It's run it's course.  This jackass is either a brilliant troll or a simple idiot.  Either way, responses are being utterly ignored.

This is the important part - IT ISN'T GOING TO MATTER AS IT IS EXPUNGED.

i agree this thread should be locked.

Well it's obviously not since there's different levels of background checks.

OK, have a look here.

Might give you some more information.  Yes, it does say that expunged records may still show on certain levels of checks but these seems to be if you are working with vulnerable people and children, and it also depends on your states expunge laws it seems.

But, an expunged arrest is a lot different from an expunged record (i.e. conviction).

An expunged arrest means you weren't convicted of anything.

After skimming through the article which I've seen before by the way. This only talks about expunged convictions and not expunged arrests. So as much as I hate to say this no this article isn't helpful and what I say rings true that me having an expunged arrest isn't going to matter.
