Archosaur Games, Tencent, Lightstorm Entertainment, and Disney have jointly announced Avatar: Reckoning, a mobile game that will arrive for iOS and Android smartphones this year. The game is an “exclusively mobile MMORPG,” but the official website for the game describes it as an “RPG shooter game on mobile”.

As the name clearly suggests, Avatar: Reckoning is based on Avatar, the highest-grossing film of all time. The movie has managed to earn $2.847 billion so far. Disney has already recognized the potential of the movie and is turning the solo film into a franchise. There are sequels planned, and interestingly, even in the case of a game, there are multiple iterations.

Avatar Reckoning iOS Android Game

Avatar: Reckoning is claimed to be an MMORPG shooter. It will be available for iPhones running iOS, and Android smartphones, presumably simultaneously. According to the newsletter for the game, it will include solo, co-op, and player-vs.-player content.

“Avatar: Reckoning will transport players to never-before-seen parts of Pandora where they will meet new Na’vi clans fighting to defend their home, battle powerful RDA troops seeking to exploit the resources of the moon, and encounter spectacular alien creatures – all playable solo or in dynamic multiplayer matches. Players will level up their Avatar character, equip powerful weapons, and battle through single-player story missions, co-op and player-vs-player (PvP) game modes with innovative combat tailored for touchscreens.”

Archosaur Games, the agency tasked with building the mobile game, is using Unreal Engine 4 for development. The developer has reportedly worked on mobile titles such as Dragon Raja and World of Kings.

The official website doesn’t offer any demo or even a glimpse of gameplay but does offer newsletter signup. In addition to Avatar: Reckoning, there are two more games based on the blockbuster movie in the pipeline. There’s Ubisoft's Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and another mobile game, Avatar: Pandora Rising. Incidentally, Ubisoft is the only developer offering an Avatar game for consoles and PC.
