I've been looking for some time for a way to remove IE functionality ...

If I can get this working I'll be extremely happy ...

I'm trying to run the reg file with regedit in Windows 98 but I get the following error:

"Cannot import C:\HIDEME~1.REG: The specified file is not a registry script. You can

import only registry files."

I'm a reg noob so any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I have a feeling this is just for XP.

Open it up in Win98 with an editor that can read Unicode format.

Copy and paste into Win98 notepad and save as ANSI format.

Change 'Windows Registry Editor 5.00' or whatever it says on the first line to 'REGEDIT4'

The error returned was:

Sorry, some required files are missing, if you intended to view a topic, it's possible that it's been moved or deleted. Please go back and try again.

'hide menu_hide addressbar' worked for me last time. link empty now. 'hide menubar' keeps address bar open even if unchecked. hmmmm. reformatted and lost so if someone has former regfix a repost would be greatly appreciated. tia :)

I couldn't edit my previous post, I guess there is a time cut-off.

I managed to do it, by testing around with values and comparing it with other versions. I made two simple .reg patches - one to install, one to uninstall and turn everything back to windows defaults. If you have changed it in any way prior to installing this patch, back up the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\ShellBrowser

If you want address bar only in explorer, download the compressed file below. :)

addressbar_only.zip

right click the toolbar > uncheck "standard buttons."

If I do that, the menu just comes back. I believe it is possible to get it done with resource hacker and file replacement, but if it would feel so much safer to do it with a registry entry instead.

    • BS, I've yet to run into a typical pc user that uses it at all, let alone half the population.

    • The site is pretty sparse on features / tech specs. Can I plug it into a PC/hone/Switch via USB-C and use it as an external display? If so, what's the virtual resolution of the screen, the refresh rate, PPI of the image etc? Is the text crisp enough to use for coding at say 12pt? Is it good enough for playing dark games, like say Path of Exile 2? How about fast games like car racing games? Just how do they expect anyone to order this thing without giving out all this info?
