i see that you are new here, and just want to point out that most of the community is not full of trolls as this thread might have indicated...as others have said, this topic has been discussed extensively elsewhere, so always search before you make a new thread. thanks.

oh, and FF for me as well :D

Edited by chacho

i use opera, but i still use IE6 for somethings, for instance quicktime imbeded in a webpage.. doesnt work for me through opera, also bitorrents mess up in opera as well :( so i mix it up between the two, but opera is clearly superior to all the browswers and ive tried them all. Its even better than firefox! ;)

Just shut up about it and ignore then.

We understand that completely, but the number of times repeditive threads are made (sometimes on consecutive days, or even on the same page), it does get kind of annoying.

There should simply be a sticky in the software forum perhaps that has

a) A list of applications (type specific ie; Web Browsing, Theming)

b) A brief description of what the program does.

c) Once a user replies to the thread with another program that is not on the list, add the program, and then delete their post so that it doesnt become filled with repeated software.

eg.

Customing

- DColorXP (www.whatevertheurlforitis)

Display shortcut text on either top of bottom of desktop icons, and how they are arranged.

I know SD already has one which contains freeware apps, but the problem is, not enough people read/search the forums before posting.

The guy only has 3 posts. He's obviously new here. Cut the guy some slack. Just because we've been here long enough to see all these browser war threads doesn't mean he has. Just instruct him to use the search button without being so damn arrogant and hostile. It's not how we used to be here on Neowin. I'm actually more annoyed with the folks that HAVE been here for a long time and try to increase their post counts by making stupid and unnecessary comments, or give some half-assed advice they don't know anything about.

If you're referring to compatibility and system performance then I say IE but if you're talking about speed, ease of use, customization, etc then it is Firefox and Opera. Firefox is actually faster than Opera. If you load a page like linux.com (fairly graphics-intensive) with Stopwatch. I tested page loadtime awhile ago for a review I wrote at another tech forum...

Opera 7.22 b3221 (uncached) : 34.460 -- 06.199 (cached) -- 06.850 (no images)

Firefox 0.8 (uncached) : 19.869 -- 14.350 (cached)

IE 6 (uncached) : 20.730 -- 15.702 (cached)

best browser for xp

Your title implies to me you're talking about compatibility. If compatibility is the issue, use IE, otherwise, use Firefox.

    • One of my PC's is Windows 11 Home Edition... and guess what? it supports Hyper-V Disks and Containers, as well as WSL2... which these desktop tools leverage on an as-needed basis. It does not need to be enabled system-wide; it merely needs to exist. Furthermore, I tried something yesterday with Hermes Desktop and their "installer" actually builds everything from source as part of its installer toolchain! The installer (and updater as it were) both go through a roughly 19-step process to prep the system for the tool to be used -- and connectivity to local/remote models, local/remote agent configs, and other steps are not included as part of this process (those are all user config steps post-install). ALSO, the "bug wasn't confirmed to exist" is the weakest argument against a bug. That's literally every flawed product's knee-jerk reaction! Even politicians, lawmakers, murderers, and other violent criminals start with that defense... "I deny everything I'm accused of." The bug is the (shared) experience. Whether it's truly Claude Code's fault, or user error, or some other software package being the ultimate culprit, is not the point. They are experiencing unpleasant side effects and don't like that.
    • Each generaton has its exciting times and I was fortunate enough to be right there at the beginning of the PC industry.   I don't think any of us at that time realized how large it would become I still remember working on a TRS-80 with a green screen monitor that kept overheating and dying.     Also used some TRS-80 PCs with tape cartridge memory.   They worked but boy were they slow with everything being a very slow sequential read or write.  But heh, they worked though it wasn't long before they were repaced by the HDD.
    • One Drive should be a four letter word. First thing I disable on my computer. If I want to upload something to the cloud, I use a cloud base storage, NOT microsoft. Oh but what about backup. I have done backups since floppy disk eras...it just comes naturally.
    • It does just not OneCloud. 🤷🏻‍♂️
    • Claude Desktop on Linux doesn’t have ram issues. Strange. 🤷🏻‍♂️
