Samsung Display supplies display panels for Samsung smartphones, including mid-range and flagship models such as the Galaxy S26 series. The company also supplies display panels for Apple iPhones. However, the latest rumors suggest that Samsung could move away from its in-house display manufacturing division next year and adopt BOE panels for the Galaxy S27.
According to ZDNET Korea, BOE has been in talks with Samsung Electronics to secure a place in the Galaxy S27 supply chain and potentially replace Samsung Display as the panel supplier. The Chinese company reportedly offered its panels at a price $5 lower than Samsung Display’s to further sweeten the pot.
Korean sources claim that Samsung Electronics’ Mobile Experience (MX) division has sent a Request for Information (RFI) to BOE regarding OLED panel development, while also evaluating samples since last month.
Industry insiders say Samsung executives have shown a positive attitude toward BOE OLED panels, and the Chinese manufacturer may not face major difficulties in meeting Samsung’s requirements for the Galaxy S27. BOE also settled a patent dispute with Samsung Display late last year and signed a patent licensing agreement with the Korean company to use its diamond pixel technology.
BOE has already supplied display panels for Samsung’s mid-range Galaxy A73 in partnership with CSOT, but it is now looking to expand its presence into the flagship Galaxy S27 series. The company has also been supplying Apple with display panels for several iPhone models in recent years, including the iPhone 17 series and the budget-friendly iPhone 17e.
ZDNET Korea says Chinese smartphone manufacturers have scaled back production plans due to rising memory prices and a major supply shortage. As a result, display panel makers such as BOE are struggling to maintain operating rates at factories. Offering OLED panels to Samsung Electronics at a $5 discount over Samsung Display’s could help BOE secure the deal.
