i have 512 ram, how much can i allocate and how do i do it?

PearPC RAM settings HOWTO

1) Open the Windows Calculator ..

2) Go to View ..

3) select "scientific" ..

4) make sure its at "Dec" ..

5) Now type whatever amount of memory you want ..

6) Click on "Hex", memorize that Hex value ..

7) Open your PearPC config file and go to the line where it says #memory_size=0x8000000

8) Remove that # sign and type that Hex value over 80

For example:

256(Dec) = 100(Hex)

So to get 256 megs of RAM you have to type -> memory_size=0x10000000

384(Dec) = 180(Hex)

So to get 384 megs of RAM you have to type -> memory_size=0x18000000

I don't quite understand your situation...

Is Mac OS X properly installed yet? If so, boot off the hard disk image.

change slave device to 1 then change prom_bootmethod = "auto" to prom_bootmethod = "select"

now if you run pearpc .. you will see a prompt that will ask you which drive you want to boot from. Choose the HD and when OS X boots up u will see the 2nd CD on the desktop.

Dont flame me if its already been asked but its hard to find somthing in this thread.

I installed the first CD PearPC closed after he finished. I restarted and tells me theres no bootable partition.

I tried PearPC bootfix (http://s87840517.onlinehome.us/fixboot.html) changing the prom_env_machargs = "-s" but it doesnt seems to work...

Is there a way to fix this? I dont want to use darwin. :(

    • Windows 95 offered the ability to add and edit the right click menus, on a per file type basis. This feature seems to be missing in the new file explorer. Are they bringing it back as a "new" feature?
    • It's nearly time to replace my aging Founders Edition 3080, it doesn't OC as nicely as it used to and it's running around 10c warmer than it did when I first bought it.  I don't have budget for much more than what I spent on the 3080 and locally, that means the best GPU I can manage is a 9070XT. On this basis I have a few questions: 1. At present I don't use ray tracing, if this was to change, would this GPU be an issue? 2. How does it compare on a performance basis? 3. Are the drivers worse or better than those for nVidia? 4. Linux support, is it there? 5. Anything else I should be aware of if I were to make this change? 6. Is it a good idea or shall I try and keep the 3080 a little longer.
    • What OS is that? It looks a bit like Mac OS but the command line suggests it isn't, either way I like it!
    • Outlook classic is inherently better than new outlook, for a number of reasons. That said, if the only reason people need office is to read email, they should just use thunderbird.
