How good is your antivirus?

Since most would like to argue bout what is the best antivirus. I decided to open this thread solely for testing your preferred antivirus. This is a compilation of a group of hackers.

THIS IS NOT FOR THE SCAREDY CATS. THERE ARE ALL VALID VIRUSES. DO NOT OPEN THEM OR EXTRACT THEM TO ANY LOCATION. SAFEST METHOD TO TEST YOUR ANTIVIRUS IS TO SCAN THE COMPRESSED FILE. I WILL NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR YOUR ACTION.

TEST THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK

If you dare to take this challenge, do post the screenshots of the antivirus in action and please do not use any Photoshoping skills to manipulate the results.

Try to post at least the following information for others to evaluate

1) Program/scan engine version (Exm NAV 2004, AVG 6 Paid Version, SAV 9.0.0.338 and etc)

2) Any settings you changed

3) Screenshots (Optional as proof)

EDIT: Contrary to the filename which tells you 455 viruses, no it is not. Actual total is 593. If your antivirus detected them all, well done.

mines great, i just use housecall once every 3 months. i dont have AV installed. if you have half a brain you dont need it, i havent had a virus in 5+ years. :ninja:

to Maximum level make difference?

Wait a minunte...

If ZSS scores better than etrust AV 7, that means the person

who did testing with EAV7 was using InoculateIT engine.

That person may wanna do it again after switching to VET engine

( same one used by ZSS).

got norton 2002 with latest defs here are my results

infected 588

repaired 287

quarantined 300

I believe NOD32 is stopping me from downloading the file, I have tried two times and it suddenly stops and the archive is corrupt. :blink:

Well had to disable the on access scan for McAfee Enterprise 7.1 to actually download the file, but after that it detected 588...

Not too bad I guess...

lol.. there is no point in doing this.. there is no way you'll get hit with 500 viruses at one time unless you do this and actually put them in your system.

/me has Symatec Antivirus 9 and I trust it :)

My NAV2003 Found 588 fixed 300. I seriously doubt i'm gonna ever get that many at once.

But it dosnt answer the question. Does the RC2 AV protection detect NOD

Check out sites that offer verification and testing of AV detection rate. It is far more than the file you just tested it with.

only found 588 with Symantec corp edition. Might have to rethink the advice I give to my customers ! ! ! :unsure:

Err WTF! Just updated virus defs and now only finds 587.

I found 588 viruses with Bit Defender Free Edition 7.2

know viruses 85717 (signature)

but it does use a lot of memory :(

I opened the zip file and looked at the dates of those viruses, some are dated from the 80's, is that a bit ridiculous?

There is no such thing are "Norton 2004 Corp Edition" Norton AV = Home Users with a pretty interface (that is what you have). Symantec AV = Corp Users with a very smart professional (ie non-candy UI).

how the hell do you guys get infected with so many viruses :blink:

i dont use a AV app i recently ran the trend house call scanner from their site and found only 1 virus in a rar file.

both F-Secure Workstation and McAfee Enterprise found 587 out of 594 virii. Both with the latest definitions.

even with the .zip file archived in another archive, both F-Secure and McAfee found the virii.

Could be better though...

It's not protection.. but its true shell integration with antvirus.

PC-Cillin 2003 also found 587. But among the 3 AV that I tested, it seemed to have the best real time scanning. It wouldn't even let me hover my cursor over the icon without it scanning for all the virii. I had to disable the real time scan for both McAfee and Pc-Cillin 2003 before it even let me download the file.

If these are known viruses why are they ALL not found by norton, etc, etc. Or is it that some are extinct and just dont need to be protected against??? Has anyone got 100% accuracy??? Symantec AV Corp missed like 5-6 viruses (thats not bad for nearly 600) but it is still 6 viruses that could infect my machine. I am now a little worried. :unsure: :no:
