How good is your antivirus?

Question

Since most would like to argue bout what is the best antivirus. I decided to open this thread solely for testing your preferred antivirus. This is a compilation of a group of hackers.

*************WARNING*************

THIS IS NOT FOR THE SCAREDY CATS. THERE ARE ALL VALID VIRUSES. DO NOT OPEN THEM OR EXTRACT THEM TO ANY LOCATION. SAFEST METHOD TO TEST YOUR ANTIVIRUS IS TO SCAN THE COMPRESSED FILE. I WILL NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR YOUR ACTION.

Here's a link to download an archive file containing the viruses. READ THE WARNING BELOW BEFORE CLICKING HERE

TEST THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK

If you dare to take this challenge, do post the screenshots of the antivirus in action and please do not use any Photoshoping skills to manipulate the results.

Try to post at least the following information for others to evaluate

1) Program/scan engine version (Exm NAV 2004, AVG 6 Paid Version, SAV 9.0.0.338 and etc)

2) Any settings you changed

3) Screenshots (Optional as proof)

EDIT: Contrary to the filename which tells you 455 viruses, no it is not. Actual total is 593. If your antivirus detected them all, well done.

I'm think of downloading NOD32 because of the bad AVG7 pro outcome

Can someone tell me a few things

1. Why has it got such a silly name

2. What is the interface like. AVG's has always been ugly - is it better?

3. Is it low on memory, and quick to start up / do things

4. What are the automatic updates like. how often and does it update the program w/ virus defs

Cheers mate.

Just one more thing. Does SP2 RC2 Shield Detect it?

1 Who cares about the name? Isn't the key issue the level of protection?

2 Who cares about the UI? Isn't the key issue the level of protection?

3 http://www.rokop-security.de/main/article.php?sid=693 Look at the bttom few rows for overhead.

4 NOD32 has automatic updates that happen once a day, more if needed.

Who gives a rats ass if the SP2 security center identifies NOD32? Do you realize that the functionality built into the SS is for folks unfamiliar with security to ensure that they have some baseline level of protection?

Why do you need to OS to tell you if your signatures are up to date when the app updates automatically?

Damn....using AVG 7 Pro here, fully updated. Not too impressed by this. How do they get the 100% detection rate they claim to have?

That's because they don't. No one can come close to NOD32's detect ratio over the years. The only one that I think even comes close is Kaspersky, and I can't stand them anymore.

Well, I tried the Zone Alarm Security Suite Antivirus on it. LOL. It found 595 files to be scanned, and 582 that were infected. LOL. It didn't clean any of them, but then I just scanned the archive and didn't bother opening it. LOL.

IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOUR HEAD LOL?

Though one should emphasize the word virus, NOD32 is still outclassed by KAV based engines in the detection of other malware (trojans etc.).

Personally between the two, i would suggest NOD32. It's easier to configure than Kaspersky. Kaspersky UI is quite a horror if you ask me. Maybe before making a purchase, download a trial version and test out the trial version.

Actually the recent release of Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal 5.0 is extremely easy to configure as you can see from the screenshots here http://kas-sc.virtorio.cjb.net/

these are MY kaspesky results....sad.gif do i have an old version or soemthing?
Yes, yes you do http://www.kaspersky.com/productupdates

Okay, I turned off real-time scanning, which allowed me to download the file. Sorry to say it didn't find 100% either. Much closer than AVG 7 Pro though!

Same here (I closed auto detect too) maybe we should submitt these files too the authors of these anti-virus progs?

    • Lol I had one of these turn faulty in Jan, guess it wasn't just bad luck lol
    • I'm team Rossmann all the way. I have the exact same NVME, altough not in an array like him.
    • It had gone weeks ago. Although thinking about it I'm on the beta.
    • They thought value of their goods would forever only drop like it used to and didn't account for sudden increase in price because of all the Ai hype. Tough luck Samsung, don't try to weasel this one out. Also American customer protection laws are a**. In Europe, you need to be compensated for a functioning product of same or better characteristics (not same price point as when it was originally bought!) if it can't be repaired and when you receive a replacement product your warranty starts from scratch because you received a different item than you previously had and old warranty thus cannot apply to it anymore. If your actual item was successfully repaired, warranty gets extended for the period the item was in service. If item is repaired to a significant extent, warranty also starts over from scratch because major part of it was replaced. Americans need to fight to get this kind of consumer protections because they are constantly getting screwed over.
    • Microsoft releases new Windows 11 Media Creation Tool with the latest updates by Taras Buria Patch Tuesday updates arrive every month, bringing users new features and security updates. To make sure customers have access to the most recent images, Microsoft also releases updates to the Media Creation Tool app, its official utility for Windows 11 installation. Today, the company pushed new ISOs to Media Creation Tool, allowing you to create images with the June 2026 Patch Tuesday updates. With the latest update, the Media Creation Tool now downloads KB5094126. It is Windows 11 version 25H2, build 26200.8655, which is also available via Windows Update. Note that the app itself remains on the previous version, which you can check in Properties > Details. The only change is that it now downloads a more recent Windows 11 build, so the only way to check is to download an ISO. The June 2026 Patch Tuesday update is a special release for Windows 11, as it brings a new performance profile to make the operating system more responsive and snappier when rendering various user interface surfaces, including the Start menu, quick settings, and more. It does so by spiking processor speeds for a brief moment, resulting in higher loads for a second or two. The so-called “Low latency profile” is rolling out gradually, but you can force-enable it with the ViVeTool app. Other changes include webcam improvements, Task Manager updates, shared audio support, and more. You can download the Media Creation Tool app from the official Microsoft website using this link. Besides MCT, Microsoft lets you download Windows 11 ISO as a file directly from the official Windows 11 website. However, you will need a third-party app to write it to your USB drive. Check out this guide if you want to know how to do that.
