[DEFINITIVE] Half-Life 2 Thread

Yeah, well we already have a company that spends all their time making engines, it's id. Hopefully they make hl3, or whatever single player game they come up with next, on the source engine so they don't spend the whole time making the engine and not the game.

p.s. this game took about 8 gameplay hours to finish, that's more than underwhelming.

Yea if you play it on easy.. Who does that?? It ruins the game, all to easy. Play it on hard and you might just have a challenge.

stop complaining about how short the game is considering a lot of people who've beaten the game probably sat down on easy mode and just ran through the levels. BORING.

and people STOP posting your forum screengrabs please. i ain't blind i can see all the hl2 threads. jeez.

yeah i'm cranky. so sue me

yay, got passed it now....and DOG got captured :(

Now im in command of a group of people....cant wait, seems like the bit with them big spiders that ive seen footage of is just around the corner or somat....looked awesome, cant wait to see em :)

Wsup guys this is the member formally known as islanq ;) Well I still am but i'm temp banned right now so shhhhhh!

Anyway theres no way you can beat this game in 8 hours without running the whole time or cheat.

The night it was released I played for a solid 2 hours,. Then yesterday I started playing @ 4pm - 2am (giving I took about 2 hours for eating, on the phone, and The Simpsons). I'm I finally just got the blue gravity gun. (almost done with the game I think). Anyway, I don't get how ANYONE could complain about the length of this game. I mean name a longer that has ACTION all the way through.

I played on hard, but i've come not to expect that much of a challenge from single player first person shooters.

Unless you used cheat codes or had a strag guide there is no way you beat it in 8 hours your 1st go though on hard. I find this very hard to beleive. If you are that good you should go test games for a living...

Well I have no reason to lie about it. I'm not saying that I didn't use quick save and load a billion times :p

 i'm on medium and been playing for 2 hours now and i've died at least on 8 different occasions.

Now that is a lifelike pose. It would be creepy, but the characters are so believeable it's great instead. It comes as a real suprise when you realise that Alyx is just a bunch of polygons, textures and pre-recorded audio - not a real person.

Most memorable moment in Half Life 2:

Going to the sea to drown the Ant Lions, agitating them at first and RUN to the sea! hehehe! Then all those Ant Lions started bobbing on top of the water. Pure fun! Then once that part was filled with Ant Lions, I started moving to the sea and got eaten up by worms!!!

Whats the whole point in the rebellion if all these Alien worms have overtook the beaches? :( Damn, I really missed those little critters too!

One thing: I might have missed something in Blue Shift or something, but why are those green guys with electricity coming out of their hands so friendly now - Not that its a bad thing. And what happened to the lightning monsters from Opposing Forces and such. I think HL3 would well be over 10 Gigs if the whole shebang of aliens were to cast in it.

They were 'alien slaves': slaves to Nihilanth, who you killed in the end of HL1. Now they are free to do what they want - the green arm/neck bands they wore in HL1 have gone.

Ok before i get any flames for "this has already been posted" it may well have been but i'm not trawling through the 100s of pages of posts including spoiler pics to find out i tried that and keep getting screenshots in the forum that I dont wanna see.

I went to Game today to get the Special Edition version of HL2 as mentioned on the steam site:

Collector's Edition

? Half-Life 2

? Counter-Strike: Source

? Half-Life 1: Source

? a Half-Life 2 T-shirt

? a Prima book sampler

? Ships on a single DVD.

I was told there is only one version, which is DVD, however this does not include any of these features apart from the standard Package and they said there is no collectors edition.

My question is, is there a colectors edition available in the UK?

I've had a steam account since Steam came out and I don't want to download the full game from there for a number of reasons, primarily because I want a physical disk to own (I know, I know but i'm a romantic at ;)art ;) )

can anyone give me a heads up on this (or post a nice reply with a link to the question posted previ;)sly ;) ) I can't believe that the collectors edition is US only and although I know i shoulda pre-ordered this as i've been waiting for it for so long but because of the fuss over what versions there would be prior to it being released i didn't have much faith in what version i would be buying if i did pre-order (looks like i was right). Any help guys?

    • No, "a great deal" for 32GB of DDR5 is $50, not $350. I mean I see what you mean, that it's a decent price compared to what's currently available, but you really should put a disclaimer in this articles explaining that it's still multiple times more expensive than it used to be.
    • Linux 7.1 stable launch looms as Linus Torvalds releases the final release candidate by Paul Hill Linus Torvalds has just released what’s expected to be the final release candidate of Linux 7.1, rc7. The Linux founder said that this RC is not small, but smaller than recent releases, which is a good sign because he expects the stable version to drop next week if things continue on this trajectory. Linux kernels see a merge window for the first two weeks of their life, where developers add new features, then there are about seven or eight weeks of release candidates before the stable version. Typically, there are seven release candidates, but if more time is needed, then an eighth release candidate is released too. This week’s RC’s biggest area of fixes was for GPUs, with networking just behind. Torvalds said that the rest of the release was “pretty random and spread out” with some architecture fixes, driver fixes, filesystem improvements, and build fixes for more unusual configs. In terms of specific pieces of hardware receiving improvements in this update, we had more AMD Zen6 models supported and fixes for AMD SDMA 7.1 and GFX11. Hardware that got improvements includes Lenovo laptops, HONOR laptops, and MSI laptops. Here are the changelogs for those: ASoC: amd: acp: Add DMI quirk for Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 15ASH11 Input: atkbd - add DMI quirk for Lenovo Yoga Air 14 (83QK) Input: atkbd - skip deactivate for HONOR BCC-N's internal keyboard ASoC: amd: yc: Add MSI Raider A18 HX A9WJG to quirk table ASoC: amd: yc: Enable internal mic on MSI Bravo 17 C7VF When the stable Linux 7.1 is released, it will be up to distribution maintainers, such as Canonical and Red Hat, to release the update to their users via the update manager. Some versions of Linux will get it before others, and some will never get it at all. Fedora and Arch-based distros will be among the first to get it, though. If you don’t get it, the security fixes will be backported to your system’s kernel, so you won’t be at risk, but you won’t get newer hardware support, which is fine if your computer works now.
