[DEFINITIVE] Half-Life 2 Thread

Recommended Posts

I for one do not like this system for copy protection for Half life 2.

My reasons are...

one. I cant play the game unless I have an internet connetion. I know there are some who say "most people who play the game do have one"  I say what about thoughs who dont?  Dont they have a right to play too? There sould be a way to activate the game off line. Maybe like with windows xp having a 1-800 number. What happens if valve goe's out of bussines? Yes this could happen! How will I activate my game on a new PC?

Half-Life 2 System Requirements

Minimum:

? 1.2 GHz Processor

? 256MB RAM

? DirectX 7 graphics card

? Windows 2000/XP/ME/98

? Mouse

? KeyboInternet connectionion

Read the box before you buy a game.

Three. what happend to fair use? When I buy a game for Xbox. gamecube, playstation2, it's mine and can walk down the block put in my freinds machine and play. I cant do this with half life 2. I know some you will say why dont they come to my house and play. Well what if there PC is better and I want to see how it plays and looks on a better machine. The truth is there a million reasons to want to be able to do this. All completely legal. Ware are my fair use rights? I dont really feel like own this game.  I feel more like paid to borrow it!

You can log in on Steam on your friend's computer and play the game.

I find it hilarious how people are up in arms over an extra 2 minutes you have to put in before you can play the game. C'mon people, it's not that hard.

SPOILERS: :o

I think you both misunderstood the screenie. This is the part where I get into the buggy and the woman operating the crane drops the buggy infront of the antlions. I get out, shoot the antlions and flip the buggy. I am supposed to head for Nova prospekt now but I cant make the jump ahead. I need to backup on the bridge and race to the ramp but I keep getting stuck on the bridge. :/

* SPOILER ANSWER *

I thought you were further than that. Righty then, use your Gravity Gun and shoot it off that ledge, go for a ride around and you'll find a road (turbo speed in advance to fly over the problem) :)

Please don't encourage piracy like that.

That's called helping solve a problem, not encouraging piracy, whether it be a pirated game or not. Just because someone doesn't help him doesn't mean that he won't get the answers elsewhere. And by the way, if you really want some good info on half life 2, there is a good thread on the www.nforce.nl forums in PC Arena section.

I am going to replay it now that the stutter patch is out ... sheesh that will make the game better. Anyhow why the hell couldn't they have given us the blue gun in the first place ... it is sooo nice. Well I can actually answer my own question ... you could walk right through the game so friggen powerfull. BTW was anyone else pretty freaked out when they were in ravenholm (sp?)? I know I was ... so dark and creepy, especially when your out of ammo and on health alone :(

    • I can answer about the Linux bit. I only used AMD GPUs. I currently have a 9060XT (8GB) that fits my needs, I'm not a gamer, so I don't need that much GDDR. But lately, NVIDIA has grown a lot in the recent years. Oh, the horrors of NVIDIA drivers not working. But they have been getting better. I know a lot of members onm here that are running cachyOS and other distros, and are fine with a 4090/5090 variants. Really, though, I would stick with AMD variants.
    • Everything they say you can already do yourself on the registry by changing some things.
    • Artist's renderings are so much nicer to view than the real thing, don't you think?
