she has point eyes..... I don't know, she looks chinese to me, but her dad is black.... so... it's really really weird to me.

Maybe her mother was asian. I remember reading that her mother also worked at Black Mesa, but was killed in the first attack.

Alyx's mother was the lady in the hologram from the training in the original Half-Life.

Whoa, I didn't know that. I should really pay attention to the dialogue more :)

Anyway, hopefully the HL2 Raising the Bar(stard) book I'll be getting should help (Y)

I don't think it was said in the dialogue. I heard that on a HL2 forum, and apparently Valve said last year she was her mother. Her name was Gina.

It said in the dialog, but I think you had to look at the picture first. When I did, Eli called me over and told me it was the last thing he had taken out of Black Mesa, besides Alyx (A picture of his family).

EDIT: Also, I read somewhere that Alyx was originally supposed to be the daughter of Corporal (?) Vance, a character they scrapped (in his picture, I believe he was white or asian. Light complexion). When they scrapped this character she became Eli's daugther.

Yeah I heard that too, but I don't think he specifically said Gina... or maybe he did?

I know some of you have wondered why the hydra (the blue worm looking thing featured in the E3 demo in Neverprospekt picking up the combine soldier) wasnt included in the game. I was reading through my Rasing The Bar book and found out why from the man who created it Ted Backman.

"However, the closer it got to being done, the more its fatal flaw was becoming clear: it was amazinglly cool to watch it fight other characters, but it was zero fun to play against it in first person. When it attacks others, as the player you could see this great big glowing giant worm smaking through the map, knocking stuff over and putting on a great show, but when it attack you, the player, you'd just see this non-descroipt blob doing something vague, then you'd be dead. Cutting it was personally very painful, but I had to do it. I'd still like to see this in the half life universe somewhere, maybe rethink its AI more along the lines of an Antlion."

Thats what the man said him self and there is more beofre it but im not typing that out. Loads of stuff like this in the book so its a must buy!!

I agree that it probably wouldn't be very fun to play against, but it would have been nice if they added in a sequence where one took out a whole bunch on combine soldiers.

You are correct, in the Raising the bar book it sez this:

"In early versions of the game, Alyx was the daughter of a militray man, Captain Vanc, though she was very close to Eli. Vance played a compromised and dangerous role protecting the Air Exchange, while secretly organizing resistance fighters. When the air exchange was cut in the process of development Captain Vance was a causalty. In one stroke, Alyx becomes Eli's daughter, thus tightening up the core cast of characters. Vances face survives as the basis for one of the nine male citizen heads and also currently exists in his purest form as one of the hostages for Counter Strike Source."

Well what you know, tihs book is amazing and tells u so much more :D

 I purchased it on Sat. and now it Sunday and I have been at it 16 hrs straight playin at hard settings. It got under my skin but I'm just about finshed. Well worth the $54.00usd plus tax $4.00 = $58.00 . Very few hiccups and took about 30 minutes with the steam bull**** and Counterstrke Source too.

Graphics are awesome and gameplay is damm good too. Its been along time since I was excited over a PC game :p

I?m in the part named "We don?t go to Ravenholm", and I?m wondering how much time I have to spend in Ravenholm, because it?s really scary hehe.

I just received the shotgun btw.

Thanks in advance...

I got stuck for a while there(RavenHolm), very frustrating but as the rest of the game you have to really be aware of everything and when you get low on ammo at times learn to put that wonderfull crowbar to u:ninja:nja:

    • OpenAI is rolling out a major upgrade to ChatGPT memory by Pradeep Viswanathan OpenAI is rolling out a major upgrade to ChatGPT's memory, making the system more capable, current, and scalable across long-term use. Memory allows ChatGPT to remember useful details about users, including their preferences, projects, and constraints. Instead of starting every conversation from scratch, ChatGPT can use this context to provide more relevant responses in future chats. OpenAI first launched saved memories in February 2024. That feature allowed users to explicitly ask ChatGPT to save information into its memory, such as travel plans or writing preferences. However, this system had limits because it depended heavily on users giving clear instructions to remember something. Additionally, saved memories could become stale over time. In April 2025, OpenAI expanded memory by allowing ChatGPT to reference past chat context outside the saved memories list. This was powered by a background process called “dreaming,” which automatically curates memories from chat history. This made ChatGPT better at learning from natural conversation without requiring users to manually save every detail. Today, OpenAI announced a more capable and compute-efficient memory architecture built on top of dreaming. This new system improves ChatGPT’s ability to carry forward useful context, follow user preferences, and remain accurate as time passes. According to OpenAI’s internal evaluations, the new system improves factual recall from 67.9% in 2025 to 82.8% in 2026. Preference adherence improves from 55.3% to 71.3%, while accuracy over time improves from 52.2% to 75.1%. The best part of this new system is a new memory summary page where users can review ChatGPT's memories. Users can even update details, correct information, or give instructions on what topics ChatGPT should bring up and when. This new, improved memory system is available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users in the US starting today. It will roll out to more countries, as well as Free and Go users, in the coming weeks.
    • I work for a video production company in Australia. The camera operators shoot footage and then pass the SD card over to the editors. Much easier than handing over the entire camera. Plus, on a busy day you can hand off the SD card and then pop another in for the next shoot. Or, you might have used multiple SD cards because you need the extra space for a long shoot. I also use USB cables and wifi for transferring footage, but in many cases an SD card reader is the easiest method.
