Is your Windows Firewall enabled also? If so, turn that off for now. Reference the ports I posted above to get your firewall(s) to play nice with Steam. Good luck! Off to play...

[Possible Spoiler!]

Well i'm stuck already.. on my way through the waterways and I just found a lake of green crap and all I can find to get me across it are 4 barrels... tried throwing em in and hopping across and I am just not getting anywhere. Any suggestions?

I think I know the section, I'm writing it out below in white (so highlight to view):

4 Blue Barrels, and the ramp...place the 4 barrels under the ramp (in that cage), then use the Hovercraft [with a run-up] and fly over :)

man im not familiar with proxys n those ports, wud u be able to help me out

I'm getting the same error. Really friggin ****in me off. No proxy here. I am on a University connection, so it's not like that's the problem either.

I think that Steam is just bogged down. Go to Steam's website. It is barely loading. Stupid Steam. Great idea Valve!

I don't know if you know this or not, but if you look at every other post on here lately, it's from some College kid trying to figure out how he/she is going to authenticate and run HL2 behind a College internet connection. The University connection probably is the problem.

I was looking for this aswell - thanks, I'm also downloading it now :)

To be honest, at first I didn't like this idea of STEAM, but I'm seeing the advantages of it now.

However, after installing it (like 5 seconds), it says it will take 26 minutes to prepare to play it..???

Nope. It's because I didn't think about the fact that I needed to open some ports for Steam. :)

    • LOL. Can't even quote and edit a comment correctly. Figures you're a Linux user.
    • I have disabled it, but the app is still taking space. I have a Mac and it is only possible to disable Ai on that, but I think that bit does get rid of the AI components after a while. What we are told is that we agree to all this when we use the devices as it is in the end user agreements, their software, they can do what they like. I doubt that any bill will happen in the U.S, the government there are in league with big tech firms. The E.U maybe, they seem to have some guts when it comes to tech companies. The U.K is not in the E.U, but some things still affect us. Our government is as gutless when it comes to tech companies as the U.s government.
