Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW 20" Widescreen LCD

Recommended Posts

Well I just got mine last night.

Very, very happy. No backlighting issues that I can tell, no dead pixels.

Version A02 :)

My guess is that by now, anybody ordering these monitors, will get an A02 version.

Make sure to change your screen resolution on your video card settings.

If you play any games, you'll have to change your video settings there too.

I also changed my Scaling to 1:1 in the monitor settings and adjusted my

brightness down a little.

Looks awesome :D

Would anyone be able to take a picture of their 2005FPW while playing CS (or any other game for that matter) at a resolution of maybe 1280 or 1024 and with the scaling set to 1:1.

I just want to see how gaming at a non native resolution would look bacuse i'm afraid my vid card (X850 XT) won't be able to handle the lates games (AOE3, BF2 etc... ) at the native res and with all the eye-candy turned on. Becuase i have a feeling, that if i had to play an the non native res and with scaling (black bars on either side) would get really annoying, really fast.

I've also posted my concers over at DSLR... http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,13508647

Thanks in advance!

I though that 1:1 meant that it would not stretch the image across the whole screen... it would show exacly 1024 x 768 of the image... and the rest of the extra space would be black... and since this is widescreen, your going to have space left over at the side instead of the top.

So incase my request wasn't clear above... i'd be really helpfull if some one could take a picture of the 2005FPW playing a game at a non native resolution and without having the game stretch.

Thanks once again.

Here is a game @ 1280x1024 @ 1:1

As you can see there is a tiny black borders at the top and bottom due to the screen been 1050 and not 1024. Obviously the sides have more black.

I believe the only way to make use of entire viewing area at a scale of 1:1 is to have a video card which allows you to change the resolution to 1680 X 1050. You won't see those settings until after you install the monitor to your computer. I would be surprised if the X850 xt can't do it. It might not be on the list because it is new, but i'm not sure. Ask Dell or ATI. As a reminder, you can go to dell and see the current list of graphic cards that support a 1680x1050 resolution. That's how I understand it anyway

You can have it stretch to the correct aspect ratio, so if it were 1024x768 it will stretch it but not distort it by filling the entire screen but leaving the sides black. Not the same as was posted above.

I have a question for you. I dont have any TV card on my pc but it is possible to use the PiP option with a .mpeg ( or other extension) that is on my hard drive?

That has nothing to do with the monitor doing PiP, the monitor has several different inputs, you can do those PiP.

Some info for those who have purchased it:

There is a windows update for the 2005fpw.

None here, Unless you mean when you first connect the 2005FPW up, Default XP Drivers pick up & you run Windows Updates - The yes there is.

But there is nothing new :(

well all I know is after everything was hooked up and installed, and then I later happened to look for windows updates, it was listed there, so I downloaded it. It didn't automatically give it to me I guess. And yes, it was the update from last fall, but anyway I have it now.

It is only some games that when you put the resolution at 1024x768 (no widescreen resolution) that you see black borders or i need to enable an option somewhere??

Because when i put the resolution at 1024 in Guild Wars, the resoltion take all the place on the screen so its very strech.

Thx

What OSD stand for ? Mine its say : Dell 2005FPW (Digital) on Radeon 9800 XT

Sorry if i ask many questions but its my first LCD so i try to understand.

The menu on your Dell 2005FPW.

On at the bottom right hand side of the Dell 2005FPW Screen? The 3rd button from the left, that brings up the menu for the monitor so you can goto Image settings and change the scaling to 1:1

OSD = On Screen Display

IE, the menu that is displayed 'On Screen' Of your Dell 2005FPW monitor when you press the Menu button.

You might want to pop the CD-Guide in and check the Manual for your monitor :)

    • Apple launches new website for parents and a revamped Screen Time experience by Aditya Tiwari At WWDC 2026, Apple announced new parental control features for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 to keep kids' device usage in check and keep them safe online. As a parent, you'll get access to a simpler setup experience, Ask to Browse, Time Allowances, and a redesigned Screen Time. You'll be able to pick exactly which apps your child can access on their device, choosing from just a few essential apps, a curated set, or the apps you feel are appropriate. There will be an option to gradually add more apps. Ask to Browse is a new feature that requires kids to request permission before visiting a new website in Safari on iPhone, iPad, or Mac. You can also turn on a setting that requires your kid to ask for approval before connecting with an unknown contact via Messages, FaceTime, or the Phone app. You can manage your child's screen time more effectively with Time Allowances that work across categories, including Games, Entertainment, and Social Media. You can set time limits based on your kid's age and get suggestions informed by expert research. Speaking of expert guidance, Apple added that it's working with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to adapt its Family Media Plan to create a guide parents can refer to when using Apple products. Moreover, the company has also set up a new dedicated website, where you can find tools, resources, and answers to common questions around parental controls and child safety. Apple also allows parents to set daily schedules to manage screen time, configuring access to different apps at different times of the day and across the week. Overall, the Screen Time section has been revamped and provides a bird's-eye view of your kid's average device usage and most-used apps. "For example, to help protect important family moments, parents can quickly limit access during meals, outdoor play, and other times that deserve full attention. If kids need a little extra time to finish something in an app, parents can also easily extend access," Apple said. Apart from these, Communication Safety has been updated to block gore or violent content when detected in shared images or videos. The feature already blurs nudity in Messages and FaceTime calls, and is enabled by default for users under 18.
    • They already threw the Ultra 1st gen under the bus? It really feels like someone screwed up, and that advanced AI features will only be available on the list above but someone screwed up and said that Watch OS 27 in general will only be available for those models. I think they will pull it back. I did see someone also put a snap shot of their series 9 watch being offered the watch os 27 beta. As the backlash online is already in full swing.
    • Right, Google... because that's who this is going to. Google, the company who's entire business model is geared around ad revenue and your personal data.
    • That is the natural course for regulations. First to protect the consumer. Then to protect the business/industry from upstart competition. There are countless examples across history.
    • I have never been a huge fan of libre, it feels really good but exactly when you need an advance feature for data wrangling it falls short every time or has bugs. I am all for euro office if they can deliver a good and usable alternative to MS office with backing of govt function.
