I just got called a Ninja Looter because I ran through Razorfin Downs with a group .. didn't get anything through the run, and needed an item I can use at 37, and I'm 32.

They were all saying "Ur blacklisted" and stupid stuff like that..

I mean wtf? The only thing I get during the run is XP and a few Bone Moss and they're *****ing because I need an item I can use in five levels?!

That's BS.

If you took the item without letting anyone/giving anyone a chance to roll for it and without prior warning to anyone then that is ninja looting.

5-levels below the zone you're not contributing anything to the run.

  • You'd be decimated by crushing blows if you tried to tank.
  • You'd be unable to hit enemies with spells or melee often enough to make an appreciable damage contribution.
  • The level-based threat difference will make you a questionably valuable healer.

It sounds like you being allowed to tag-along by higher level players with the expectation that they'd be collecting

all the loot. Maybe someone was gearing a twink, leveling an alt, or trying to level enchanting and you were

invited for the party experience bonus.

What class do you play, what was the item, and what were the classes/level of other people in the group?

I did let someone else roll on it though.. that's just it..

I wasn't 5 levels below the instance.. the ARMOR was 5 levels below my wearing capability, however, I did contribute a whole lot of help. I used over 400 ammo doing damage to mobs om the instance. I didn't ninja loot.

Yup.

Now before you say "40 you get mail, you did ninja loot." .. the other person got at least 2 blues during the run, and I didn't get squit.

I felt like I honestly deserved something for all the ammo I used and damage I put out.

I also, told them to need roll for it as well.. and they did.. They lost.

The gear that drops in a dungeon is reflective of the level range of the zone. If the gear is level ilevel 40-42 (requires Level 37), and every boss in the zone is level 37, and you're 32: you're well below the zone. When attacking mobs that much higher level than you, your miss chance is rediculous.

however, I did contribute a whole lot of help. I used over 400 ammo doing damage to mobs om the instance. I didn't ninja loot.

I'm sure you used a lot of ammunition: I'm also sure many of your shots didn't land, that your presence made things much more dangerous,

Knowing you play a hunter and you rolled on a piece of armor that required level 37 to equip that narrows the list of likely candidates to:

  • Boar Champions Belt which is Shaman, Warrior, ret-paladin gear. Hunter's would prefer the AH trash Blackforge Girdle or the Arathi Basin PVP reward.
  • Deathchill Armor which is Shaman/Paladin heal-bot gear. Hunter's should be doing the Arathi quest for the Blood-tinged Armor.

If it was either of those items I wouldn't say it was a ninja loot, but it was certainly clueless. They're also mail so I'm assuming those probably weren't the item (because you said you could equip the item at 37). That brings us to:

  • Bonefingers: Not even remotely good for you.
  • Arachnid Gloves of the Monkey: You could make a case for these, any of the other versions are not suitable for a hunter.
  • Fleshhide Shoulders: I can see making a reasonable claim on these.

Anything else would be pretty much ninja looting.

the other person got at least 2 blues during the run, and I didn't get squit.

Good for them, I'm glad that the dungeon was dropping gear somebody could use. The fact that someone else was lucky is irrelevant. Even if someone got 10 pieces of loot unfairly, you're still screwing over 3 other people.

I felt like I honestly deserved something for all the ammo I used and damage I put out.

For example: the experience and quest completion help? 5 levels below the content: your contribution is marginal at best. Even if you were top DPS: that's what you're supposed to do. Showing up and doing your job doesn't entitle you to anything but a chance to roll fairly on loot you can use.

I also, told them to need roll for it as well.. and they did.. They lost.

If you didn't plan to take the item unfairly, why would you roll need instead of greed?

Tbh at that level gear is much more broadly used, people dont seek specific items as they level or least i dont as it gets replaced soon. Aslong as it carrys 2/3rd stats that are viable to me id use it.

But the argument of ninja looting and taking an item as u feel u deserve it is a bit ludicrous, imagine me in a 25man i get 2nd on dps meter fighting a boss. The loot drops and instead of everyone bidding, i get it as i put in enuff effort to get 2nd on dps.

Sadly it dont work like that, Wow is team game and being selfish isnt kool. How do you know if the hunter next to you used 600 arrows then hed be more deserving etc etc. It just dont make sense

just out of curiosity.

is buy WoW gold against the TOS?

Yes, the chances of you getting busted though are slim to none.

So many of my real-life friends and players I know In-game has purchased gold at least once while playing, not one of them have been banned, suspended or warned.

I do hope they work out a system to punish or detect players buying gold, because it's incredibly pathetic and annoying.

Talking about gold, I arranged to do a gold transfer from Horde to the Alliance side and asked on the Realm Forums if someone could help out. A guy stepped forward and agreed to do the trade between characters, not only did he hold true to his word, I got almost 400g extra just because he wasn't using his Horde character. Nice to see there are some decent people out there still :)

First of all, great post. :)

Second, the ones I hit need on was Fleshhide Shoulders.

Quick question: Coming from FFXI, looting/casting lots on items was a little different. You either cast lots [rolled] or passed on an item in a party.

Having just started on WoW and being in my first group the other day, I discovered that it's different here. There's a 'roll', 'greed', or 'pass'. What's the difference between rolling and greed?

The first option (the dice) is "need", the gold icon is "greed", and the cross is "pass". ;)

I used over 400 ammo doing damage to mobs om the instance.

ROFLMFAO

sorry you are a hunter stop bitching about ammo and STOP ****ing ninja looting crap hunter have a bad name as is in the game

normally rolling need means you put it on RIGHT THERE not in a "few lvls"

IF the other person already has a couple pieces and I can use it and its good for me, I'll roll for it too. Now if its not an upgrade or its not good for my class i'll just greed and let whomever have it. In the end its a lvl 37 item and will be replaced in 3 or 4 lvls anyway so its not really a big deal.

@yggdr: The dice is for need, which means obviously you NEED it for your character. The coin is for GREED meaning its not an upgrade or its not good for you but you'll just sell it. The X is for passing which means you dont care about the item at all.

Great. Then the only way you could have been dishonest is if you had entered into an agreement that somebody else gets first chance at drops.

That's the sort of detail you'd mention so it sounds like you ran across a whiney druid. Even at end-game hunters wear leather pieces because Blizzard just refuses to itemize mail properly.

Yup. I was laughing my *** off when they told me I was a Ninja Looter.

I knew that much, what I meant is... what's the difference between clicking need versus greed? How does it work?

I knew that much, what I meant is... what's the difference between clicking need versus greed? How does it work?

Exactly how it sounds. Need > greed. If everyone hits greed, and one person hits need. That one person gets it. Don't see how else to explain it, thought it would be easy to understand.

Need, you need it for upgrade.

Greed, you want it, but don't need it.

I mean, do you not get it? Its' one of the first things I picked up when playing, and one of things when I was noob I didn't need explained to me. Need > greed. Need if you need it, greed if you want it but don't need it.

I knew that much, what I meant is... what's the difference between clicking need versus greed? How does it work?

Ah, sorry I see now what you meant. I was in a hurry when I posted.

Slane had it right. Need > greed. If 4 roll greed one rolls need, the one rolling need wins by default. If more than one rolls w/e highest roll etc.

The Last Death Knight Quest in the starting chain from the starting area of the DK. Sorry for the slow fps at some poitns and bad editing/music :) anyways should be fun to watch.

The reason why i have 35k hp and hit for like 10k is you get a buff while doing that quest that increases your stats and damage. :) This is from WotLK beta.

Dk play vid from beta NO DOWNtime on even con mobs
