WowAce's Plans for the Future

Kaelten, one of the chief leaders of the WoWAce project, posted some interesting news over on the WoWAce forums yesterday about the future of the WoWAce project and the infamous WowAceUpdater (WAU). Readers of Sprawl's Scrawl are already familiar with both of these items, but for those that don't know, WoWAce is the largest growing community of mod developers for WoW. It started with "three guys and a dream" and has blown up into a site that pushes terabytes per month. The costs are enormous, and much of the burden has been shouldered by the good folks over at Curse. Thus is makes sense that with the new renovations scheduled for August, that CurseForge.com (Curse's developers' network) would be stepping in.

Don't expect immediate changes as they will take time, but this explains why your WAU has been acting wonky this week.

The Last Death Knight Quest in the starting chain from the starting area of the DK. Sorry for the slow fps at some poitns and bad editing/music :) anyways should be fun to watch.

The reason why i have 35k hp and hit for like 10k is you get a buff while doing that quest that increases your stats and damage. :) This is from WotLK beta.

Dk play vid from beta NO DOWNtime on even con mobs

Both of those vids are down

I really like the way that quest addon looks. I've been using QuestHelper, but it seems a little unstable since the patch the other day.

I use the Titan UI and X-Perl frames too, they're nice and easy on the eyes.

Curse gaming has an update up for QuestHelper..

I use both. :)

Oh, I got the update, but it still seems weird. The quest tracker arrows on the minimap constantly flash back and forth like it's trying to decide which quest to display, and the quest list below the minimap is constantly re-ordering itself... Heh.

I think I'll check out the one you have though, see if it's any better. :)

How did you get the different font though?

just tried both IE and firefox cleared out my cache and both say the files are there and play just fine

my ui about a month ago hasn't changed much i just the basic setup for my

How did you get your bartender memory usage to be so low?

How did you get the different font though?

Some addon's add a directory to your Wow Directory like so: D:\World of Warcraft\Fonts and will change the font with TTF files.

While I'm not sure that just ANY TTF file will work, you could give it a shot and see.

The UI's designed around the fact that I can watch TV with my monitor's picture in picture.
That's why I nicked my mums 19" and put it up next to my 24", I can watch movies and TV all day long whilst playing

So that's how people manage to die in doomfire! it all makes sense.

I took my mage & re-rolled herbalism on saturday. By the end of the day (which i spend grinding while nursing a hang-over) I had enough flasks, potions, and oils to last for a month. I'm going to get in to the business of selling this stuff: the profit per hour is absolutely insane the server I play on.

Going in to another expansion with "lots" of gold is always nice. Plus I'll be able to to power-level Inscriptioning (inscribing?) as soon as Leather working gets nerfed (and make a fortune from all the other people that want to).

Mmmm I've never played World of Warcraft, perhaps I should have a go some time.

Couldn't hurt. Get a trial key from a friend or somebody online (I'd give you one, but I used it up a long time ago) and you can try it for free for 10 days. Most people get hooked :p

    • Normally, I admit when a title is clickbait (unfortunately, it's become somewhat necessary in AI-dominated news sections today), but in this case, all supported versions is implied and doesn't need to be spelled out in the title. Of course, I'm covering a Patch Tuesday update but that is only available to supported Windows SKUs. All our coverage relates to supported Windows software and SKUs only unless we expressly state that it's "unsupported", "unofficial", or "third-party". I'm sorry, but supported/official SKUs don't need to be spelled out as such in every Neowin headline.
    • ALL versions or ALL SUPPORTED versions? Neowin does it again.
    • But the reality is it will work for people's needs, and they don't care about the technology that makes it. Clearly not everyone's needs, but that low end space where personal laptops were only used to type emails, watch content and browse websites, but they didn't want to do that on a small screen device. Heck, writing that out I can now see the connection and reason it'll do so well. Apple is about experience. If the experience is bad, they don't release it. Low end Windows laptop manufacturers up until this point have not taken that into consideration ever before, so slow laggy usage with brittle slimey plastic shells were common. I hope that the low end space at least creates better physical products that last a bit longer, and if Microsoft get their act together, they could also have a solid OS on such low end hardware that would actually make the experience work for what the hardware was intended for. The fact that the CPU is a "cellphone", sorry mobile phone processor is irrelevant. It's about the experience, and so far, that sounds quite solid.
    • Hello, Bonjour is Apple's implementation of a multicast-DNS service, which allows devices running Apple's software and/or hardware to find each other on your local network.  I believe the Windows version was last updated around 2010. If you do not need it, you can stop and disable the Bonjour service in the Services Control Manager (filename: SERVICES.MSC).  Once you have done that, the operating system will no longer attempt to load the service.
