Ding... level 20. (new player)

Still on Bloodmyst Isle and not leaving yet. Just few more quests to finish (I have been saying that since I got level 10 :) ).

By the way, I am playing as a Draenei Mage (name Lyany, (yes a female, they look better than the male Draenei) on Frostwhisper, EU realm.

Ding... level 20.

You could have gone at 58! o.O, haha, but grats anyway!

I know, but I've been told by a few people that the transition is a bit easier if you wait until 60. So I did, especially since I didn't know what to expect. And I must say that I'm glad I did; I feel completely underpowered (still level 60 as of this post).

GRATS!! :fun:

Thanks :woot:

58-60 in Azeroth goes faster than 58-60 in Outlands. Some state otherwise, but I leveled two guys to 58, took one to outlands one stayed in azeroth and azeroth won by far.

How so. Outland quests reward 9800 XP and grinding mobs rewards 500+ XP a kill. Compare that to Azeroth where quests will award 5-7K XP and around 350 XP a kill.

Yay now that were in SWP and no longer running Hyjal, we get to go do some catch-up kills. So tonite its back to kaelthas to slap him for a 2nd time and hopefully get the rest of the guild there "Hand Of Adal" titles and rings (myself included who cant wait to get my ring).

Increased quest XP, made it faster. Before hand not going to outlands at 58 was slowing you done. Now quests give the same amount if not more XP than than low level outlands more. A reason I still stay in Azeroth is so that when I do go to outlands. I have Shadowmoon Valley, Netherstorm, Blade's edge mountains and a few quests in Nagrand that give pure gold at 70.

So I dunno, maybe for others Outlands is faster, but for me Azeroth holds me over till 60.

Forgot to mention respecd to arms tonight. Fun ****, I miss arms so much. I have some gear and another few weeks of arena/bg's I should have the last few pieces i need to round out my gear, and be able to push 800-1k dps. Current guild is still stuck getting into 25 mans though the latest allied part has helped tons. Rather do Gruul/Mag than ZA or Kara.

Outland mobs hit like a truck. So unless you have a nice large pool of HP (which you won't, since you aren't a warrior with epics at level 60) you will get hit really hard. I know when I first went to outland on my druid and my priest, I would have to drink/eat almost every other fight until I managed to get some better gear that would allow me to survive some of these mobs.

Prime example is Silithus. They have outland-type mobs there and they hit really hard, that's why most people avoid that zone, it's just too hard to solo. Compare Silithus to EPL/Winterspring and you can easily see what I mean.

I don't think gold should matter at this point in the game. Even if you are a fresh level 70, there are so many dailies, you have more than enough time to get through all of them. I think it's a waste of time to do normal quests (for money) once you hit 70 (other than some special ones that give some nice armor). It's quicker to just do the dailies then go grind honor so you get some epics before WotLK. As we saw with TBC, people with epics level up faster and also don't replace the gear for a long time.

Anyone know how often the Armory updates?

I think it updates 2ish hours after you log out.

People skipped Silithus because:

  • Elite mobs were everywhere. It wasn't until the leveling changes in 2.2(3?) that they were converted to normal mobs.
  • It's a 15 minute flight from major cities. EPL is 1 flight path away from Undercity, Winterspring is 2 flight paths from Orgrimmar.

Silithus was the 'place to go when you're done leveling' zone, it wasn't even finished until patch 1.3 - its sort of like people leveling to 80 probably won't spend any time on the Isle of Quel'danas.

Part of the reason people hung on to their level 60 epics was because Tier 4 and karazhan gear was so poorly itemized at the start of the expansion that it was often worse than blues. By contrast: Tier 3 was nearly perfectly itemized for raid roles and had tremendous staying power for that reason.

If you didn't have gear from BWL or better then you should have been replacing it in the first few levels of TBC. Compare Jade ring of the Everliving (Drops by Prince in Kara) to Ring of the Martry (Dropped by Princess Huhu in AQ40)

Ring of the Martyr

10 stamina

51 Healing

5 mana / 5

Jade Ring of the Everliving

57 healing

10 mana/5

With encounters like the original Magtheridon and Gruul the AQ pieces stamina made it the better choice.

Began my quest to become exalted with the majority of the factions in the game. Note that I did not say all factions for I'm not grinding out old world ones, getting Ashtongue will be hard if I'm not garunteed a raid spot, and I've heard some factions, like the Syndicate? is very hard to gain rep with.

I'm not exalted with any of the five major factions yet, so this will be a test of time and determination.

But, perfectionism spreads apparently; my girlfriend just farmed an Azure Whelping, one of, if not the hardest NC pets in the game.

Just hit exalted w/ Gnomeregan (too bad I can't use the mount) yesterday from turning in the armor scraps, etc while in AV which put me at 17 exalted factions. Might grind out Timbermaw or Wintersaber Trainers rep just for kicks.

Grinding Bloodsail rep wasn't as bad as I thought though :pirate:

Gah, the first quest to get me a useable weapon (ret pally, so I need a 2H sword/mace/axe or polearm) isn't available until I hit 61. Mine was great in Azeroth (Stoneraven) but here it takes so long to kill a mob. This is going to take a while...

Not sure what level you are but, Ice Barbed Spear from the AV quest should suit you just fine.

And more free gold is bad thing? How can you possible say not doing those quests at 70 is bad? That's that much extra gold to have to use on flying mounts etc. I'm not saying the reason I don't go to Outlands at 58 is due to saving gold for later, I don't because I can level faster still in Azeroth. Having 3 zones free to do quests at 70, is a bonus. I mean gold is terribly easy to come by in Outlands, so why would anyone reject the idea of even more free gold?

Btw, leveling weapon skills suck.

Not sure what level you are but, Ice Barbed Spear from the AV quest should suit you just fine.

Actually I hit 61 and got the weapon I was looking for. It's made quite a difference, though I had to level 2H swords from 250 to 305. That was fun

Grinding rep for fun? I guess to each their own. You just won't catch me doing it.

What makes me mad is I leveled 2 characters back before the reputation gain rate was increased. Quests used to give only 50-100 rep per completion back in the days before BC. Now they give 100-500 with an average of 250 per completion. My warlock still is hardly revered with the Undercity, let alone the other 4 Horde factions. It sure would've been nice if that change would have been retroactive.

People still skip Silithus while leveling. I don't know why. Everything is normal. I was also in silithus about a month ago and I was hit like a truck then too, especially against the Twilight mobs. I had gear from quests, didn't run any instances.

Are you agreeing with me? I can almost 100% guarantee you if you have full merciless gear you will not replace it till level 75-76. You can see the gear on worldofraids or mmo-champion. Even the event similar to Ring of blood is barely an upgrade from Merciless weapons.

Free gold? It costs you time. Time can be spent on dailies. Time can be spent on Honor. Therefore, gold != free.

Grinding rep for fun? I guess to each their own. You just won't catch me doing it.

It's more of uh... time-killer while I wait for college to start, as well as an extra way to trick myself into thinking I actually did something all day. Also, I mentioned, perfectionism. I'm the type that owns each copy of GTA with 100% complete, all hidden packages found, graffiti tags, pigeons, pay n sprays, everything. Don't know why, but, just what I like to do. I see the "completely wasting time" side of it though, :p

Are you agreeing with me?

No, I disagree.

Raiders with access to Sunwell loot (about 2% of the raiding population according to Wowjutsu) will have gear that may last all the way to level 80. The vast majority of players will be able to replace "lowbie epics"* within a few days of the expansion coming out (level 75) assuming that leveling speed is roughly as fast as it was in TBC.

Lowbie epics will include things like:

  • Season 1,2 and 3 gear.
  • Karazhan and ZA loot.
  • Tier 4, Tier 5, and most Black Temple/Hyjal items
  • Badge vendor items < ilevel 140
  • any no-rating required honor piece save for the fear-break trinket

Example:

At the launch of TBC the best healing bracers in the game were from Maiden of Virtue, the second best were Faith from Faerlina but all you gained was 80 HP. Even after patching in extra loot to Hydross, you wouldn't see a significant upgrade to Tier 3 until they re-itemized all raid loot in patch 2.1 (and also made clearing SSC/TK worth doing so that you could go on to Hyjal and get the ones from Winterchill)

I think Blizzard has learned from their mistakes and that itemization will be much better this time around: most gear will be replaced relatively quickly. Extremely high item-level pieces (150+) will last for a while but I still don't expect to be wearing Tier 6 bracers the first time I go to the Ulder raid.

I can almost 100% guarantee you if you have full merciless gear you will not replace it till level 75-76.

That's not what I'd call lasting a long time. Assuming a leveling speed roughly on par with TBC that means you'll replacing Season 2 gear within a week of the expansion coming out: a day or two /played.

When I talk about longevity I mean things like Tier 3 holding up until you were into Tier 5, wearing AQ40 loot while killing Magtheridon, and the BWL trinkets that last until Black Temple. I know people that still equip their Kel'Thuzad head-quest reward in Sunwell.

You can see the gear on worldofraids or mmo-champion. Even the event similar to Ring of blood is barely an upgrade from Merciless weapons.

From the quest you mentioned: Screw-Sprung Fixer-Upper is almost identical to Archon's Gavel from Felmyst. The sunwell piece wipes the floor with Merciless Gladiator's Salvation.

Hammer of Sanctification holds up well and will likely last until you start into Naxx.

Comparing armor: Stable Master's Breeches are a fairly direct upgrade to Merciless Gladiator's Satin Leggings (gaining spell a tiny bit of spell power and a truckload of regen) and are available at level 75. Leggings of Burning Gleam are the highest item level pants in the expansion at this point and they would be a PVE downgrade from any of the Sunwell pieces like Pantaloons of Calming Strife.

The only gear from the original game that had any significant staying power was top-end raid loot. The vast majority of players should have been turning in their welfare epics for outland blues before leaving terokar.

For example: High Warlord's War Staff ~= Totemic Staff and would certainly be replaced by Staff of Polarities at level 64.

I agree with evn on this. I am GM of one of those "hardcore raiding guilds", and have been since way before TBC was released.

Pre-BC we had T3 Loot, 90% of us were geared with Tier 3.. And I replaced 2-3 of those pieces in my first few hours in Hellfire, but kept some of that gear all the way until 67. Now its going to be different for every class, as some of my guys still had some of pieces left all the way till 70. I see the same happening with WoTLK, the biggest problem this causes is, about 2 months before TBC was released, alot of the end game raiders stopped raiding, they felt it wasn't worth the time/trouble/repair bills, etc to try and get this 'end game' gear that they would replace with random greens/blues on the first day of release, and while I agree to an extent, the problem is, its more about SEEING the content and being able to say, I downed x boss, than it is about actually having the loot.

I see the same thing happening already. People are already not wanting to do Sunwell because they feel it isn't worth the trouble since you will replace gear again with WoTLK, and it hurts the others in those guilds that want to see the content and say "Hey we downed all the bosses and Sunwell..

ROFLWTF?

Season 1 and 2, sure. Kara, sure. T4, yeah.

ZA/SSC/TK are all iffy.

ZA for the bear mount, which I see as the best loot in there (even if it isn't gear! :p) is relatively hard to obtain.

SSC for Kael, obviously.

and SSC for Vashj, but I agree that 3 of the 4 TK and 5 of the 6 SSC fights are a cake walk.

BT/MH... lowbie? You are aware that only 2% of the raiding population is in Sunwell, claiming all things prior to Sunwell lowbie is kind of.. ignorant. Even if the gear is comparable or not that big of an upgrade from some other stuff the fights still require raid wide discipline to actually accomplish anything.

If you can pug something, successfully, it can be considered lowbie, but even then there is the variable that some of the people in the raid are geared pretty well.

    • Ocenaudio 3.19.4 by Razvan Serea Ocenaudio is a full featured, fast and easy to use audio and music editor. It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display. Ocenaudio 3.19.4 changelog: Adds fallback fonts so every language and symbol displays correctly Improves autosave and session recovery stability Improves region navigation and display Fixes a crash when the level meter is used on displays with a scaling greater than 200% Fixes memory corruption when using the silence selection tools Fixes crashes when closing a file while effects are still being processed Fixes a freeze when applying effects to many files at once (macOS) Fixes crashes related to audio devices on Windows Fixes invalid file names when exporting regions whose label is used as the file name Other bug fixes and improvements Download: Ocenaudio 64-bit | Portable | ~40.0 MB (Freeware) Download: Ocenaudio for Linux and Mac OS View: Ocenaudio Homepage | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware

    • This got me thinking, would you rather a self driving car prioritise protecting its passengers or everyone else? I'd choose the one that keeps me and my kids safest. At some point, these cars have to make those choices already, don't they? Wonder if we have a way to find out what way they lean.
    • The proportion (or number of iterations) has nothing to with this aspect of Copyright I am describing. In short, it doesn't matter how many times the manager tells you to change something or how. Your work product is always YOURS until and unless you then assign that to the person representing the client/company, usually for financial compensation -- either in salary or as a subcontract work for hire payment. if iterations determined copyright, then businesses would have learned to just keep making changes until they could claim they owned the copyright, without having to compensate the artist for their work. And that would be BAD. The only place where the amount of changes does have a role is in how much does a human modify a previous public domain work (from any source) before it is considered fair use or their own work, etc. For example, if a human makes substantial changes to a public domain (re: AI, by definition) work, then they can then claim that derivative work as their own...but NEVER the original version, of course. That's why anyone can make a movie about Dracula, for example, as long as it is based on the public domain novel, but not if they take new ideas from copyrighted movies made afterwards. As one of the people who personally advised the US Copyright Office on their recent ruling on these very issues, be assured that I specifically used the terminology precisely -- though I made it simple enough for laymen to understand it. If I made this confusing by doing so, I apologize. But, to be clear regarding your assumption that I would agree to your second statement that I quoted above -- the answer is NO. If AI does the work, no matter how much "direction" you give it, it cannot be copyrighted. All AI generated content is in the Public Domain and therefore the copyright cannot be assigned to ANYONE, even you -- until and unless substantial modifications are made to it BY A HUMAN BEING (yourself or a contracted artist/writer/etc.) and then that copyright on the derivative work is legally (in writing) transferred to you. This is a critical distinction. And it is important that people, especially AI sloppers, understand this. For example, YouTube is not paying AI slop generators for the copyright, etc. of their AI slop. What YouTube is doing is sharing AD REVENUE for permission to publish your AI slop. Copyright/ownership/rights never come into it. Importantly, that means that anyone can copy any AI slopware on YouTube, etc. and rehost it anywhere they want, even back on YouTube, and there is nothing legal that YouTube can do about it with regards to copyright protections, ownership, DMCA, etc. Anyone is legally free to use any AI slopware in any way they want. When this ruling was pending, I warned Disney legal of all of this before they did their OpenAI deal -- that it would literally dilute their entire IP portfolio forever. They ignored that warning for the PR and stock bump. But that is why, when the ruling came down last year, Disney quickly extricated themselves from that OpenAI deal, even eating the initial upfront fees -- followed closely by OpenAI ending their entire AI video generating business model. They adjusted their PR release dates to make this less obvious to shareholders, of course. Phew. I hope that this clears up the key distinctions for you and anyone reading. If you have any additional questions or even hypotheticals about AI and Copyright, please feel free to ask.
