is there anyway i can download the latest patches without using that stupid client???

i've had about 6-7 download attempts and been unsuccessful with the latest patch.. most of the time it's just stopped dead... other times its just decided to go extremely slow, one time i clicked to play while i was downloading, it stopped and restarted from the start when i finished playing.

it looks as if its a torrent from viewing the log.

surely there is other ways to download the patches???

Also, i've been playing the game a couple of weeks now and i'm coming along nicely... are there any reccomended mods or addons or even essential addons that i should have?

At what point should i install the burning crusade addon, when i reach level 60? i bought it when i bought the original but decided not to install it until i need to?

http://www.wowwiki.com/Patch_mirrors

Patch Mirrors for you :p

Also, Install Burning Crusade right away.. If gives you access to Bloodelf/Dranai characters and there starter zones (which are fun quests). You can also then ask a nice mage to portal you to shattrath and set your hearthstone at one of the inn's there.. so from your hearthstone you can go to any major city in the game (saves alot of travel time).

Apart from that, you only need Burning Crusade installed when you want to go to outland (at level 58+).

There's afew addons.. but none are really needed:

1. BaudBag (Basically turns all your bags into one bag.. so you dont need to rumage through each one to find one item).

2. QuestHelper (Highly Recommend you dont install this addon, it basically tells you where to go for every quest and turns the game into purely a grindfest.. First time in the game, dont use this addon)

thanks for the help :)

what does grind mean?? noticed it heard alot

last question... i grouped with someone last night to complete a quest, i was then asked by them if i would like to earn 4 gold... basically asked me to collect 50 stringy wolf meat and then mail it to them as cash on delivery.... i accepted and started slaying wolves... as soon as i reached 10 stringy wolf meat it said my inventory was full.... how can i collect more? i dont know how serious this person was being i'm still new to warcraft..lol

Grind is basically doing something repeatadly which isnt fun.. (usually in order to get something which is fun). I.E. Killing 50 of the same mobs for one drop etc.

Your inventory is your bag space, you need bigger bags. If your a tailor you can make them, or you can buy them on the AH.

Also, in every major town is a Bank.. where you can put 'extra bags' for additional storage :p

Just a tip: If you're applying to a guild, especially one well beyond your current level of progression please

take time to fill out their application. Behold this gem from our recruitment forums (names removed to

protect the innocent). You'd also do well not to make yourself look like an complete goon.

notes in brackets are my comments.

About the Wrath of the Lich King: is it necessary to pre-order? I would think you could just go online, purchase a key, and download the new client. Amirite? :p

FYI if you didn't know: Many times in early stages of the game, additional bags drop. You can drag these bags from your backpack to the bag bar (ie. the empty slots next to your backpack). You can have up to 4 additional bags.

The upside to a rogue is that in this new patch coming out.. 3.0 there going to be so overpowered (well I think they will be)

Im sure you have seen these already but I mean come on there just that good...

Rogue

* Rogues will now deal an additional 50% damage to stunned targets.

* Rogues will no longer have Sprint, Vanish or Crippling Poison abilities.

* Players will now be able to target Rogues and select a Pick Lockbox option to have the Rogue automatically open all lockboxes in their inventory.

* The reagent cost on Blind has been changed. Blind will now require Blinding Powder, Fel Lotus, 20 gold and a Splinter of Atiesh to use.

* The tooltip for Hemorrhage has been updated to inform the player that it is terrible for raiding.

Im still thinking if I wont to keep the rogue warlock does sound tempting but another caster :s

Oh what to play, anyone got any pointers or tips they would like to add feel free to :)

You do know that those patch notes are a joke right?!?!?

Blizzard will probably do the same thing they did last time. They released a direct download version of TBC. Easier than pre-ordering and (maybe) wait in line to get a copy.

Heh I wasn't playing WoW when TBC came out. :p Will/did they give preference somehow to people who pre-ordered? Like, do they not release keys to downloaders until after a week or something? I'm just trying to figure out why people are paying to pre-order if they can just download it.

Well alot of people myself included prefer to have things on disc for one, secondly the blizzard downloader is a pain in the ass and thirdly pre-orders are normally there a few days before thus you can be on at midnight no questions asked, well unless the servers crash all the time like with tbc.

Heh Sorry I'm still not seeing a reason to paying to pre-order. I'll give you that some people like physical media, but I'm not one like that. I also haven't had problems with the downloader before. :/ And even then, you can quickly download a client from a mirror.

Burning Crusade wasn't available immediately for download and buy a key at launch, it was only a couple weeks after that that option became available.

As to how it will work with Lich King, I would suggest to expect the same. If millions of players were to all choose that option at launch, they would land up with a surplus of the phsyical copied and they would also have problems having their servers meeting the load of that many people trying to download that much file size! It's possible they will, but I wouldn't count on it.

Makes sense to me, I will pre-order! Thanks!

He followed up with one of our mages: turns out he lives in Kuwait, and he's 12.

Sad thing is, I can see that being legit eventually. The game pretty much plays itself anymore.

If only that were true.

Old content is auto-play easy mode (ie: magtheridon). BT/Hyjal were never particularly difficult.

Mag/Gruul/SSC/TK before the nerfs were appropriately difficult and did require people to pay attention (and throw gold at auctioneers).

Sunwell will likely remain challenging until 3.0 at which point the first 4 bosses become a huge joke (though paying attention on twins/felmyst is still a requirement) and muru will be substantially easier.

As many of you know we will be featuring a new Battleground, a dedicated world PvP zone and all new PvP items in Wrath of the Lich King. In order to make the transition from The Burning Crusade to Wrath of the Lich King flow as smoothly as possible, all accrued honor points will be reset at the launch of the expansion. We do this to ensure select players do not have an unfair advantage at level 80 from stockpiling honor to instantly purchase the newest Wrath of the Lich King PvP rewards. For those with unspent honor points prior to the release of the expansion, we will be offering a few upgrades and special rewards in next content patch solely for purchase via the honor system.

Spend it if you got it.

The PTR patch notes are always available on blizzards PTR patch notes website, and you can always read the current beta patch notes. Keep in mind that patch notes aren't always up to date and may reflect changes that have been reversed, or indicate changes that are not functioning or haven't been implemented yet.

Still, that gives you a pretty good idea of where things are heading in patch 3.0 and beyond.

    • Waymo recalls self-driving software after cars enter closed freeway work zones by Paul Hill Waymo, the self-driving car maker owned by Alphabet – the parent company of Google –, has recalled some of its fifth-generation Automated Driving Systems (ADS). It did so after some of its cars drove through closed construction zones. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected vehicles were capable of driving through a closed freeway construction zone and continuing to drive at speed. The listing on the NHTSA website says that Waymo is currently developing a solution to fix this issue, but in the meantime, freeway driving is being restricted. Waymo will update its ADS software so that vehicles can detect when they can avoid entering construction zones. According to the Safety Recall Report, on April 20, 2026, Waymo’s Field Safety Committee began meetings reviewing an event from April 11, 2026, and five events from April 19, 2026, where Waymo’s autonomous vehicles didn’t recognize and drove past ramp closure signs into the pre-planned freeway construction zones. This took place in Phoenix, Arizona. Separately, on May 18, 2026, seven Waymo vehicles entered freeway lanes with active construction in the San Francisco Bay Area by driving between cones that were placed to show the lane was closed. On the back of both of these events, Waymo restricted freeway driving until it could address the issue. In June, Waymo’s Safety Board reviewed the issue and additional information related to ADS performances around construction zones; then, as a result, it decided to conduct a recall. This development is not good for Waymo as it adds to a growing list of technical hiccups its cars have experienced. Ultimately, it will lead to more scrutiny from lawmakers around the world who will be more cautious about letting autonomous vehicles on their roads without tighter regulation. For readers in areas where Waymo operates, does this news make you more wary about stepping into one of these vehicles?
    • I'm still on Windows 10 22H2 because I didn't want to deal with all the issues in Windows 11, so I waited almost a week before installing the latest Patch Tuesday update (KB5094127), I went ahead and did it, and it was a huge mistake—ever since then, my File Explorer has seen a performance drop of about 30% when transferring large files... Once again, Microsoft has outdone itself! This update cannot be uninstalled, either through the Control Panel (via Settings) or by accessing Advanced Startup Options. The only possible alternative would be to use system restore points, but I’d have to reinstall all app and driver updates (and there’s no guarantee it would work). Or there’s the “nuclear option” of a in-place repair without losing files or apps, but even then, all my customizations would be lost! Microsoft just can’t help but mess everything up! Way to go, Microsoft! But I still don’t want your c****y Windows 11!
    • Microsoft: Windows 11 could finally solve a major issue across AMD, Nvidia, and Intel GPUs by Sayan Sen While Microsoft has been trying to improve it, Windows 11 is definitely not flawless, as even today some issues are taking a year to publicly acknowledge. However, one area of trouble that may finally see much better results soon is graphics driver crashes. Work on graphics driver timeouts, also called Timeout and Detection Recovery (TDR), is not new as the latest WDDM 3.2 also has specific improvements regarding it. Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) version 3.2 is supported on Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2. However, with the upcoming version 26H2, TDR crash diagnosis could go to the next level as Microsoft is introducing a new DirectX 12 API feature called "DirectX Dump Files". Similar to how system memory dump files work when a system crashes or freezes or encounters any such major issue, DirectX Dump Files (DDF) will essentially record a snapshot of the GPU execution right at the moment a graphics-related crash or hang or freeze occurs, so that developers can better understand and diagnoze these TDR and timeout detection errors. The dump will be available as a .dxdmp file for analysis and it will be a comprehensive dump file generated with detailed insights about the hardware, drivers, Windows, as well as the affected application. This should be another welcome change in this department. Earlier at GDC 2026, when the technology was first debuted, Microsoft had shared more details regarding it. The company had explained how DDF is designed to gather data from every layer of the graphics stack into a single file, eliminating the need for developers to manually correlate logs from multiple tools. As mentioned above, the dump can contain a lot of useful details like GPU hardware state information such as register values, shader program counters, page fault virtual addresses, shader memory data, and command buffers. Alongside that, it also captures DirectX runtime and kernel information, including D3D objects, pipeline state objects, device error data, adapter details, and CPU call stacks. Microsoft says the feature has been built around two primary use cases: retail device removals and local device removals. The former allows developers to collect crash information from end users' systems in the field, while the latter helps QA teams and developers investigate issues on test machines. Developers will also be able to include up to 2 MB of custom application data through new D3D12 APIs, providing additional context for troubleshooting. In addition, Microsoft is introducing three dump collection modes ranging from zero-overhead capture, which has no runtime performance impact on supported hardware, to higher-detail modes that collect more vendor-specific debugging data. On compatible Tier 2 hardware, zero-overhead dumps will be enabled by default, meaning developers may begin receiving useful crash diagnostics without making any code changes. The table below explains the three tiers: Tier Description NO_OVERHEAD Enables crash capture with no runtime cost and is suitable for broad deployment MEDIUM_OVERHEAD Provides a balance, capturing additional diagnostic data with moderate impact HIGH_OVERHEAD Collects the most detailed GPU and driver state available, enabling deeper investigation at the cost of higher runtime overhead In terms of availability, the company expects broader release to be around the fall of 2026, which should be right around the time when Windows 11 version 26H2 lands. Right now, DirectX Dump Files are available as a preview and currently, only AMD has the compatible AgilitySDK Developer Preview driver version 26.10.07.02. You can find the official announcement post here on Microsoft's website.
