Just wait, armour pieces and entire sets up next.

Doubt it. These are just collectors items and have no bearing on game mechanics. Blizzard did this before they merged with Activision, like giving you extra pets for buying the Collector's Edition (like Mini Diablo or the Frost Whelpling). This is just an extension of that. Everybody likes money, and people have money to spend. Give them the opportunity if it doesn't **** with the game, I say.

BTW, position 53604. Nowhere near 5 hours. It's estimating 3 hours now, which I'm sure is way off too at the way this queue is dropping by about 1,000 every 30 seconds to a minute.

lol, it's all about how you want to spend your money.

Some people will spend their money on a night they'll barely remember. At least this purchase is a one time thing, and I'll get to enjoy it for many days to come. In fact, I'd say it's on par with buying a nice shirt. :p

I'm kinda disgusted at the price they're charging but I guess it's "because they can" - it has Activision's greedy markings all over it. I mean, it's half the price of a full game for a cosmetic item. Why not spend the money on Dragon Age Awakening or something and get hours and hours of entertainment as opposed to an item that you stare at for a small portion of time in game, given that there's already TONS of people with it which'll make yours look lame and not quite as special as you originally thought.

Having said that, I did sell my Blizzcon 08 Polar Bear mount for AU$290 (US$190, while the Aussie doller was down, which cost me AU$30) so in that regard I don't care that there are idiots with too much money.

And for the record, it's NOT limited edition - it'll always be available. It's just the way the store work where they have to put in a finite number of keys at a time but are free to generate hundreds of thousands more codes as there is demand.

To each his own. Why bother farming ToGC / TK / Kara / etc. for mounts that don't improve your character in any meaningful way?

In terms of pure fashion $25 is chump change, as an example: my favorite t-shirts are very pricey compared to other options. While there may be some merrit to the "made in a first world nation" or "better materials" arguments, the majority of what you're paying for is vanity. It may be the particular cuts/styling, stitching details, or the particular graphic design work but none of that is going to keep you warmer on a cold day or make you impervious to fire. A video game mount offers the same 'real' utility: something pretty to look at for a couple of years. Other examples of vanity items are far more egregious (like teeth whitening) and for the most part nobody has any qualms about those.

I'll typically get a mount if it meets two conditions:

  • Dead silent: I hate mounts that make noise (see: flying carpet).
  • Fits through doorways: the mammoths are constantly dismounting you, and it'll only get worse in the expansion when we're all sent back to undercity and org.

This one has the interesting property of functioning as a land and flying mount which means you can replace your "/cast [mod:shift] horse; [flyable] bird; horse" macro and free up one more slot - that might almost be worth $25 to me.

But I guess that's the thing - it'll be replaced by whatever the next cool item Blizzard releases or even just the Bone Dragons or Proto-drakes from the raid achievements. I can hardly see people using the mount 2 years down the track. Heck, I think once people see so many others with the mount the cool factor will quickly subside within a couple weeks but that's just my guess, I could well be wrong. Can you imagine the image linked above after a few days? There'll be soooo many of them around.

The shirt example is a bit different. My analogy in that case would be there's two mounts available on the Blizzard Store - one is $10 and just average and then there's the $25 celestial mount. If you are going to buy a mount, you're more likely to spend a bit extra to get the better looking one as opposed to the cheap one. I guess I just don't see the benefit of buying something to use in game for which there are already hundreds of different choices. There is the convienience of just having the one mount but I've been using the same mount macro for ages and I haven't thought about it at all unless I change mounts and I suspect it'll be less of an issue once Azerorth is flyable anyway (and Bliz may decide to have more mounts behave in that fashion).

#show Forsaken Warhorse
/script local m=GetZoneText() if (m=="Dalaran" or m=="Wintergrasp") and (GetSubZoneText()~="Krasus' Landing") then CallCompanion("MOUNT",12);end
/use [flyable,nomounted] Rusted Proto-Drake; [nomounted] Forsaken Warhorse
/dismount

Honestly, I think some people are blowing it way out of proportion. People are going to buy the things they want.

I found that out when I tried to get people to at least back off MW2 to see how things played out. Anyone listen? No, not a damn soul. Then they get on the forums and bitch and complain about how it was short, didn't make sense, multiplayer sucks, etc. as if it was too hard to hold off from buying it just for a week. Bah... now I'm ranting.

Anyway, as I said, it's up to the individual. Besides, if those buying the mount are happy, who's it hurting? I hear all these stupid arguments on the MMO-Champion forums, like it kills the rareness of other mounts or whatever nonsense they can come up with. Fact of the matter is, it doesn't change a damn thing about the game. It's simply a pretty mount that is easy enough to obtain, which arguably requires more work than buying some of the in-game mounts already. (because waiting in a queue and putting in your billing information is more work than buying a mount at your local vendor)

As for speculation on adding armors/weapons/max level characters/gold to the store, I highly doubt Blizzard would do such a thing. Feel free to call me on it if they ever do though. ;)

I guess I just don't see the benefit of buying something to use in game for which there are already hundreds of different choices.

As opposed to a perfume when every soap, shampoo, tooth paste, hair product, pit-stick, etc. has a scent on it already?

Doesn't address the fact that you still need one for each character.

IE: my DK isn't a tailor so I can't recycle a macro for his flying mount. My alliance mage doesn't have access to the skeletal warhorse, etc.

You'll still need the flyable check because you have restrictions on flying everywhere (ie: warsong gultch, pit of saron, ulduar, etc) in addition to the capital city.

I'm not a fan of protodrakes at all: flying carpets win for being small, making no noise, having no excessive animations, not having passenger features, and not landing when you get remotely close to the ground. I'd pay $100 for "winged shoes": a 'mount' that works as a land or air mount, has no sound, model is tiny: like wings on your boots, scales to max skill, and doesn't let people "hop in" for a free ride. It's not a lot of money compared to say a hard-cover book or a night at the pub and it'd remove the biggest annoyance in the game.

Nobody is forcing people to buy it... if you want it get it if not leave the others be who have it :) ... Got it on all my alts, and i must say it does look sweet. Limited edition ... not really as theres 100s maybe 10,000s or peoples on the server who have one. If it was really limited edition there would not be so many.

I love it how they are using % instead of actualy figures or how many are left.

downside to the mount is you still have to dismount and remont in Dalaran to fly, it does not instantly fly when u get to the landing.

I'll just keep farming for my Deathcharger Reigns :p

I also really want a flying carpet, but tailoring has like zero use to a paladin :p I suppose since I have echanting I could at least shard the greens/blues.

Although my mining does give me a +25 stamina boost.

edit: I've realised there's actually a decent cloak or something to do with 400ap in regards to tailoring, might be worth a look!

They are everywhere on my server too (Jubei) I saw one guy with it, asked where he got it coz it looked amazing, checked out the Blizzard store to think bout buying one, went back to the landing in Dalaran and it was like every 2nd person had one. Decided to keep my money then :)

They do look incredible thou, may purchase one before the next xpac

They may have ran out but then, apparently there is only a limited number of them, i got no Idea exactly how many when i purchased mine they were down to 48% left. They are also BoA so all your characters get one ;) Thats a major plus because the spectral tiger was only redeemable on 1 character. This is the mount that algalon should have dropped though imo on 25 man! As the LK drops one on 25man HC which is similar.

I actually like this mount more than Invincible. I may be the only one, but I like excessive particle effects, and the stars look really cool.

I really bought this mount because the ground mount/flying mount aspect of this is very convenient, and now my alts get a cool and convenient mount. :p

    • All versions is correct. The bug appears on any version of Windows with KB5094126 installed. It's a little insane to expect the author to explain that systems that can't possibly have that patch installed, will not experience the bug. If you have any gripe about the title, it would be that it doesn't mention the update at all, but I wouldn't agree with that either. A title is not expected to be a full summery of the article.
    • (Can't see if he's still wearing the clompy clown shoes though)
    • I'd say the first one failed to be as popular as Apple anticipated, but the easy adjustment here is to make fewer of them next time around. It would only be a "flop" if it isn't possible for Apple to recover the design and factory tooling costs given the number of units sold, which I doubt would be the case. It isn't like no one bought them; it just failed to become the new hot phone of the year.
    • You're right that it does not follow the plain meaning of the word, but in this context, it is a legal term defined in 49 U.S.C. Kind of how "wire fraud" laws apply even if a physical wire was not used. Given that it is codified in law, and it isn't just automotive journalists that don't understand evolving technology, I highly doubt congress would change a well understood term just because technology makes the term slightly less actuate.
