Also, it is a MMO. Skyrim is not, do not even compare the two.

 

This. You can't really compare the two. I'm a big fan of both games, and if you look at my total gaming hours over the past 5 years WoW and Skyrim dominate. 

 

If you want to compare Elder Scrolls Online to WoW, there are fair comparisons to be made. Skyrim and WoW are both fantasy games with RPG/character development elements....and that's about as much of a comparison that can be made.

 

Questing in WoD has been far more fun and engaging for me than previous expansion (although I more-or-less skipped MoP). Ultimately WoW does not present a world to explorer and live in like in Skyrim. Its a world to conquer and move on to other content (like raids, dungeons, and PvP).

Starting to feel like maybe re-activating my WoW account wasn't such a grand idea.  I've been playing Skyrim a lot the past week or two, and that game, like all the other Elder Scrolls games, is amazing.  The attention to detail it just unreal.  I was roaming around the other day and happened upon a random cave.  I went in, found a journal talking about a guy who had gone in with his buddy to buy this old gold mine that appeared to be a dud.  He went to town for supplies, and came back to find his friend gone, presumably having left and given up on the mine.  This is all written in the form of a journal/letter left on a table in this mine.  I walked around and actually found a secret room with the guy's skeleton half buried under a pile of rocks, and a vein of gold right beside him.  He had found gold, and his friend assumed he'd abandoned him when he went out for supplies.  This was not a quest, nobody asked me to go here, it was just there, an interesting little find in the land of Skyrim.  Quests seem to ask you to do different things all the time, and the first person view kind of helps with immersion.

 

I've tried playing WoW for the past day or two, and it just seems like a huge repetitive grind fest.  The story lines for the quests are interesting if you take the time to read them but it's always one of a couple of things.

- Go to designated area, kill specified enemies, and take an item off their bodies.  (Most of the time these items aren't available unless you're on the quest, kind of spoils it)

- Go to designated area, look for specified objects laying around sparkling and collect them.  Items are usually surrounded by mobs, or may spawn a mob to attack you when you collect it.

 

There are a few exceptions, but they're rare, and I'm already getting REALLY bored of being lvl 85 and still being asked to, "Go here, kill those things, collect 8 insignia from their bodies, and come back to me."

 

I dono, I'll give it til' the end of the month since I paid for it, but it's not looking good for me sticking around.

 

 

If you are playing MoP right now you are not really playing wow. I'm sure some people will disagree but for me MoP is by far the worst xpac. I disliked it a lot of did not play the game for over a year because of this xpac. I basically leveled to 90 and then cancelled my account. The grind in MoP was totally awful.

That's what I've heard but they've already toned down some things and there was a hotfix yesterday (the 8th) which provided buffs to a lot of classes.

 

Still not "good" enough, but it may be the players that are the issue. We did Tectus as soon as the raid was released, and that fight took us about 10 tries on Normal. But the last boss, it was just impossible for that time, and yet during SoO, we cleared Flex without any issues the first week after release. But I like that it Normal is tuned for HC dungeon gear, Heroic for full Normal gear, and Mythic for full Heroic gear.

 

I like the difficulty.

Folks are almost done with Mythic. Method are now stuck at 6/7. These guys are good!

 

I feel like they need to make Blackrock Foundry even more difficult as it is rather easy to get gear this time around compared to pre-WoD. Since these people are Mythic raiders, they would do everything to get as much gear as possible, so, 7 raid locks, CMs, and profession items really make Mythic racing quite faster.

Been playing on and off since the expansion came out, hadn't really followed the development of it.  Knew about garrisons, and stat squish but that's really about it.  Hit 100 two nights ago (couple hours every couple days).  Got my garrison up to level 3 currently collecting resources.  

The squish ended up being smaller than I thought, still a bit excessive having people at 200k HP (and I am sure much more at higher gear).   

I like that healing once again requires some skill.  I play a disc priest so Panada was basically

1) Spam Smite
2) Smite more
3) ???
4) Top healing charts

Healing feels back to TBC style healing (albeit with less theorycrafting and spells).  I've done two 100 instances (UBRS and the Forest One).  Both of which took an hour or so to complete which.. imo.. is awesome.  The game no longer feels like everything is just being given to you.. it requires some effort on the players part.

FYI...

I got hacked twice two days ago even with an authenticator.  A GM had me download four programs to scan for key loggers as well as anything else.  After scanning multiple times with all four programs, nothing was found.  Even the GM's and the restoration teams were stumped with how they did it.

It seems that the hackers are getting better at this...

Game just got old, people tend to grow out of it, Personally, BC was the greatest thing to happen to WoW, followed by Wrath, for me, but after that, I like most just got bored with it, and that was that.

I agree, I'm still playing but it is really starting to get boring fast. It's no longer exciting. It's now just a cash cow..

It's funny, I used to think that this game was a great time waster.  But unless you're in the game for the pure social aspect or PvP, the PvE is a treadmill once you get beyond the leveling. 

 

I'm the person who re-subs for the expansion to experience the content, then drops it about a month later when I've leveled my characters and realize I'm basically repeating content for minimal 0.01% improvements [to then go back on the treadmill again].

 

What they've done to PvP gear though in Legion looks temping; to finally unify the gear sets makes great sense and opens up a new game for me, and I presume that's exactly what Blizzard is hoping for.  Heck, anything that minimizes gear swaps and complications makes the world more fun.

Awlwight Mate :) Yeah, I don't want to take away from the game, I was just done, I've had my time, now someone else can (and will) carry that mantle

The new expansion seems really nice with a lot of rebooted things, which I think can makes you get in again. That said, after playing 8 years in row since BC for at least 6 month a year, I have definitively stopped. I really miss the fun times with my guild.

I mean, I resubbed just the other day after a nearly 2 year hiatus. Contrary to what may be popular, I genuinely like playing the game as if it were single player. Obviously the ability to do dungeons and raids is fun but I truly enjoy just questing and getting into the Lore. Call me a nerd, you'd be correct. 


That being said, I used to raid pretty hardcore throughout the t4-t6 days, dwindled as it got into the t10-11 days and then stopped. Now it's just super casual questing, maybe a dungeon or lfr. maybe.

Work is slow right now so I figured I'd post a little update..

I know I'm WAAAAAAAAAY behind on this expansion but I just ding'd lvl 92 last night. I've always been one to stay in a zone and complete all the quests before moving on even if I stop earning XP for quests/mobs. Gotta say I'm really liking the first environment, the story and music are really nice and I'm enjoying adventuring around at a less than optimal speed. :D

I haven't played in 6 months maybe, but didn't move out of frostridge on all my characters until 96... hated the next zones so skipped until... can't recall the name of the 97+ zone...

I'll bear that in mind as I go along. When I say I'm the type of player to stay in each zone I mean I went back and did the Seeker title and Loremaster... we're talking thouuuusands of quests. A lot of zones I absolutely abhorred from vanilla I actually recall in a fond manner now. Time and place changes perspective, at least for me. :p

Its almost funny how long i've been playing wow. I started the second it came out of beta, and never looked back. Im 37 now, terminal brain cancer, and the only thing that seems to keep me occupied and half way calm are my dailies and attempting to master every class and spec. I have a lvl 100 toon of every class except paladin, and will have it when i finally buy the new expac i guess. My highest ilvl toon is my frost mage at 730. The rest are 680+. I enjoy the social and gameplay aspect since i cant get out anymore, so im sure ill be here until either it or me finally dies.

    • AMD RX 9070 GRE AI, Blender benchmarks vs 9070 XT, 7800XT, Nvidia RTX 5070, 4070 by Sayan Sen Earlier this week, we shared the first part of our review of AMD's new RX 9070 GRE. It was about the gaming performance of the GPU, and we gave it an 8 out of 10. As a follow-up, similar to how we did with the 9070 XT and non-XT, we are doing a dedicated productivity review for the RX 9070 GRE as well, where we compare it against the 9070 XT, 9070, 7800 XT, as well as Nvidia's 5070 and 4070. This will include AI, rendering, compute, and more benchmarks. AI performance, especially, is a very important metric in today's world, and AMD also promised big improvements thanks to its underlying architectural improvements. We will be pitching it against the data we already have for the RX 9070, and RX 9070 XT, but also the Nvidia 5070 FE, MSI GeForce RTX 4070 VENTUS 2X 12G, and Gigabyte Radeon RX 7800 XT GAMING OC 16G as they are in a similar price class, but also because we do not have a comparable 5060 Ti card lying around here that we can compare it against. Before we get underway, this is a collaboration between Sayan Sen and Steven Parker, who lent me his test bed. Also, there was no editorial input from AMD. First up, the specs of the RX 9070, 9070 XT, and 9070 GRE, which were given to us by AMD: Radeon RX 9070 GRE Radeon RX 9070 Radeon RX 9070 XT Boost Clock: Game Clock: up to 2.79GHz up to 2.20GHz up to 2.52GHz up to 2.07GHz up to 2.97GHz up to 2.40GHz Stream Processors 3,072 (48 CU) 3,584 (56 CU) 4,096 (64 CU) Ray Accelerator 48 56 64 AI Accelerator 96 112 128 ROPs 96 128 Texture Mapping Units 192 224 256 Memory 12 GB GDDR6, 18Gbps Clock, 192-bit Bus 432 GB/s 16 GB GDDR6, 20Gbps Clock, 256-bit Bus Effective Memory Bandwidth: 640 GB/s Infinity Cache 48 MB (3rd Gen) 64 MB (3rd Gen) Card Bus PCI-E 5.0 X16 Output 2x HDMI 2.1b 2x DisplayPort 2.1a Power consumption 220W 304W Recommended PSU 650W 750W Slot width 2x 3x Price (SEP) $549 $599 As you can see from the specs above, it is less than the standard RX 9070 in every way that counts, except for slightly higher Boost and Game clock speed. Design Moving on, the RX 9070 GRE we were given is an XFX Swift triple-fan, dual-slot design with two 8-pin connectors. At 30cm (self-measured), it will fit in most systems easily. There is no RGB either. The AMD Radeon RX 9070 GRE by XFX from all angles. Test system Our test system consists of the following: Lian Li O11 Dynamic Mini V2 Flow (Amazon|Newegg) ASUS Z890 ProArt Creator WiFi (Amazon|Newegg) Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus (Amazon|Newegg) Thermal Grizzly KryoSheet - 44x37 (Amazon|Newegg) 2x 16GB G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB (7200 MT/s in XMP) (Amazon|Newegg) Sabrent Rocket4 Plus 2TB SSD (Amazon) Windows 11 25H2 (Build 26200.8246) AMD shared a press driver based on the recently released Adrenaline 26.5.2 that we were required to use. We now move on to our benchmarks. First up, we have Geekbench AI running on ONNX. For some reason, the 9070 GRE does exceptionally well here in both half-precision (FP16) and single-precision (FP32). It manages to beat the RTX 5070 and RX 9070 non-XT, and is only behind the 9070 XT. Since Geekbench runs in short bursts instead of continuously hammering the graphics card, it seems the GRE's faster boost clocks are helping here. Next up, we move to the UL Procyon AI test suite, starting with the image generation benchmark. We chose the Stable Diffusion XL FP16 test since it is the most intense workload available on Procyon. The Nvidia cards do very well here, as even the 4070 out-muscles AMD's best fairy easily. The positive thing about the GRE is that it gets quite close to the 9070 non-XT in this test; this indicates that the VRAM does not play a very big role here, as SD XL relies on float16 (FP16). So this is something to keep in mind again. If you wish to work with float32 AI workloads, graphics cards with larger than 12 GB buffers would likely emerge as victors. Regardless, the gains are still massive on AMD's 9000 series compared to the 7000 series. Following image generation, we move to the text generation benchmark. This is one test where the 9070 GRE struggled, quite a lot. It seems that the 12 GB VRAM and lower memory bandwidth of the new Radeon 9070 GRE are hurting it quite a bit; the split is massive, especially in a test like Llama2, which packs 13 billion parameters. As such, in all the tests, the 9070 GRE is the slowest of the lot. Next, we tried Blender, and here the AMD GPUs were beaten by Nvidia. Rendering is something the Green team has always had a lead over the Red side, and it has not changed so far. On the positive side, though, the 9070 GRE shows significantly better results than the 7800 XT, which means AMD is on the right path. Catching up to Nvidia, though, will require a lot more effort. And we hope HIP and ROCm can keep improving. Wrapping up AI testing, we measured OpenCL throughput in the Geekbench compute benchmark. The RX 9070 GRE alongside the 9070 did not fare well here at all, even falling behind the 7800 XT. Interestingly, even the RTX 5070 could not beat the 4070 on OpenCL, so perhaps this suggests that OpenCL optimization may not have been a priority for either AMD or Nvidia in the modern era. Conclusion We reached the end of our productivity performance review of the 9070 GRE, and we have to say it's a mixed bag. Unlike the 9070 and 9070 XT, the GRE excels in some areas while losing ground fairly easily in others. Similar to how it happened in gaming, any time the card's memory subsystem gets hammered, it tends to fall behind the others. This was the case with text generation, wherein we saw the VRAM sometimes hit its maximum available 12 GB of usage with larger model sizes. So what do we make of the RX 9070 as a productivity hardware? It can certainly be used, but you have to know it has its limitations. For those looking for a GPU that can deal with more, AMD recently unveiled the Radeon AI PRO R9700, which is essentially a 32 GB refresh of the 9070 XT with some additional workstation-based optimizations. On a similar note, the new Ryzen AI Halo platform is something you can consider if you want to set up a local AI processing station. Considering everything, we rate AMD's Radeon RX 9070 GRE a 7.5 out of 10 for its productivity performance. Price is less of a factor for those looking at productivity cases compared to those considering the GPU for gaming, and as such, we felt it did quite decently on many occasions and can be handy if you need a 12 GB GPU and, for some reason, don't want to get Nvidia.     • TO be clear I am not running linux today, however I keep thinking about it. And I want to make sure there are minimal obstacles if I decide to make that switch in the coming months.
