The difference between the gear my guild used for their first heroic naxx (12 days after wotlk) and a person in nothing but quest rewards is tiny.

Even the worst case: your main tank, has less than a 5% difference in stats.

Provided you don't go out of your way to avoid approriate gear you can do naxx (10 or 25) as soon as you enchant your blues. They will be as good as the Sunwell loot the world first types used to do it months ago.

Also, you will probably never have another raid consisting of 25 fresh 80s again so the barrier to entry is reduced by having "overgrared" players pick up some of the slack.

I'll post examples gear sets.

This doesn't take in to account the readily a available joe/crafted items you can ah now.

I'm going to have to agree with evn on this one.

I think what people are thinking is they can't zerg naxx in quest rewards. That is true. Your tank might not be able to solo tank entire packs of mobs and you might not be able to burn everything down in 30 seconds, or half way pay attention to encounters etc. BUT, yeah they can be done in quest gear, especially 10 man stuff. 10 man stuff is basically a joke anyway.

Actually doing an instance and paying attention and doing it properly, and zerging one are entirely different animals.

Not to mention that it has very little to do with being fresh 80 (meaning "crappy" gear) and being carried through, if you've got good gear it doesn't mean that you've done something special, it means that the ML gave it to you because you won a stupid roll. (Or whatever system you use).

Recently the guild I'm in and a class leader of has been silently falling apart. The reason isn't exactly clear, but I feel theres more reasons than I feel like thinking about. We have the people to clear any 25 mans we want. We had everything besides OS3D on farm...that lasted two weeks. From there people started to work on alts and scheduled raids started to not matter anymore. Very frustrating...These people are long time friends since my first character was level 30.

In any case, if you guys have heard of Arathor, that's my realm. I've heard bad things about it but that's coming from people on Arathor. I'm also on the East coast. I'm wondering what good realms there are possibly on the East coast. Maybe even one of your guilds wants to recruit me and my girlfriend. My realm's top guilds are full and I don't think I'd get good spots in raids.

My main is a Death Knight, but don't fret, I'm a well played DK. I have a full Valorous DPS set pushing close to 5k on Patchwerk. My Tank set is almost full Valorous, 33.8k health unbuffed. I main tank Sarth with multiple drakes. Obviously both sets are fully ready for Ulduar which I fully intend to go head first into. My girlfriend is a Warlock with mostly epics and knows how to play her class as well.

It would probably help if I said I'm on the Horde.

Thanks for listening and any advise :D

Vengeance is mine!!!

I actually managed to down a Fel Reaver, solo on my lvl 80 Druid. Wearing all blues, and a few purples (Titansteel destroyer). Was flying around just for the heck of it and saw Fel Reaver and figured what the heck. Funny enough I also tried Urvos, and had more trouble with him than the Fel Reaver.

I guess sneaking up on someone while they are minding their own business and killing them isn't so funny anymore eh Mr Fel Reaver.

What do you think of my new UI

The thing I don't like is that you've pushed all of your cool downs etc. off to the lower left corner.

Your runes / power are up in the top left corner, buffs in the top right, mob debuffs top left, and

nothing is near the place you should be looking: the middle of the screen.

I've been working on a new UI for my DK, it's ugly, but the basic ideas are as follows:

[Important combat messages (like Ghoul Died) ]

[*] Horn of winter Chains of Ice [*]
[*] Unbreakable Amor Frost Plague [*]
[*] Lich born Blood Plague [*]

			  [ ============= target castbar ============= ]

			  [b][b][u][u][f][f] [ importand buffs ]
[ pet ] [ = runic power = ] [= Target Power = ] [target's target]
			  [ ==== Your HP === ]	   [ == Target HP == ]

			  [WoTF][Trinket][Dark Command][other cooldowns]

Front and center on the screen is very important combat info (ie: raid phase

changes, mob has retaliation/spell reflect, my ghoul died, lost threat, your in

a void zone, etc.

Under that have my significant buffs over my runes and my targets

significant debuffs over their frame.

Centered in the screen (very large) is my target's cast bar. DK's have a ton of

ways to deal with casters and I think that making enemy spells super obvious

is very important to maximizing their that strength.

Under that I put my runes and runic power: I want these close to the disease/buff

display so that I can better time refreshing things. Do I have enough time to death

coil before i have to reapply icey touch?

Across from those I put important target buffs (ie: invincible bubble, shieldwall)

so I can see that my target is somehow more dangerous to me than normal. I'm not

going to try and burst down an OOM priest if they have gaurdian spirit up - I'll wait

for it to expire then zerg him or her down.

I use the active runes to know what strikes I've got available. Sometimes I'll have

(for example) scourge strike up because I've got a death rune and an unholy rune up

but I'd rather save the death rune for another 1.5 seconds so I do a tripple scourge strike

when my other cooldowns line up (ie: bursting down someone in PVP).

I keep my important but long-term cooldowns (>8 seconds) displayed only when they're

on cooldown.

A lot of things you simply won't care about so there's no reason to dedicate

UI space to them. For example:

When you're tanking you'll almost always be using runestrike whenever it's up so

it'll be macro'd into your abilities. When you're DPSing you'll be using some other

RP dump (deathcoil/frost strike).

Depending on what you do you'll need to know different things about abilities so I'd

have them show/hide depending on that. For example: when you're tanking you'll

want to know the cooldown left on bone shield/unbreakable armor/lichborn/etc. But

not really need to be reminded when they're up.

For those abilities you'd probably want them to show some indication that "these are

down for the next N seconds" but then display nothing when they're ready.

For DPS you probably don't care how long is left on your Summon Gargoil cooldown,

but you will care when it's available so you can hit it. For those I'd have them hidden

on cooldown and "light up" when they're ready.

For things like mounts, bandages, Hearth/Deathgate, presence: I'd bind those to keys

and get rid of the UI for them all together. Push mount onto F12 or something, then

use a macro:

/dismount
/cast [mod:shift] Spectral Tiger; [mod:alt] Death Gate; [mod:ctrl] Hearthstone; [flyable] X-51 Nether Rocket; Spectral Tiger

That one macro will let you hearth, death gate, force land mount, or automatically pick

flying or land mount (depending on what you can use in a given zone) with a single

button.

I like to keep a small bar off in the corner (bottom right usually) that is hidden by default.

I have the 9 keys bound to the numberpad. When I get quest items that need to be

used I drag them in there starting with "0" and working my way around. That way keeps

your use-items handy without needing a bunch of bars displayed full time.

Also keep in mind that if you plan to tank you'll probably need to have a space for raid

frames to see who's got agro, mind controlled, and to get a bit of distance information about

other raid members. Grid is great for this, but it still requires a bit of space. I like to use

the spot under my major cooldown timers for that.

All of this clustering keeps the central field of view informative but clear and the sides of the screen

wide open. You'll be able to better spot jerks sneaking up to gank you, adds running into your

raid, doomfires, void zones, CC'd mobs, etc. that much more easily.

I solo'ed him as a lvl 70 protection pally tank (2.4.3).

150 points from 6k. Other than PvP nothing easily doable. Hoping to snag another 30 or 40 here in heroic naxx for some of the achievements. Got a few rep grinds going to take a few weeks to finish (ZG, Brood, Frenzy) but other than that, nothing that seems doable, except fishing and fishing bores me so bad. Really wanting to finish out the last 30 points I need so I can fish anywhere in Northrend for that mount. :p

I'm about 52% into 78, and I did Oculus with tonight.

Fun little instance.

I also, finished up the "Vet of Wrathgate" achievement.

HOLY ****ing ****! What an EPIC questline that is and the culmination of it?! So amazing!

Ehm.. Wait till you do Oculus HC with a bunch of players having no clue about what they have to do :p

Wrath Gate questline is indeed the best ingame I think. The cutscene and the battle for the undercity are as epic as it gets :p

I decided to make my first druid, got to 17 and was having fun until a level 13 hunter challenged me to a duel and humiliated me twice. Of course he gleefully let me know how much I sucked. I don't feel much like playing any more. :(

The classes aren't balanced for low level player vs player. It's too bad you ran in to a jerk like that but I wouldn't let it hold you back from playing the game. There will always be jerks, they're all over every game you can think of.

Druids are mighty fun past level 30'ish, so keep on truckin' :p

I'd also like to add that my guild on Hakkar (US-Horde) is recruiting 1x Enhancement Shaman, 2x Priest (Disc and Shadow), 1x Warlock, and 1x Hunter.

We have all 10 and 25 man content on clear up to two Drake Sarth (still working on it!)

Our officer's average age is 30+. For the most part, we are a group of adults with jobs, school, families and other RL commitments so we don't have the time to commit 20+ hours a week to raiding, so we do have a fairly light raiding schedule.

That being said, we do require our raiders to gem and enchant their gear properly as well as show up with consumables for raids. While we enjoy our light schedule, we don't want to use those hours to wipe repeatedly because people aren't trying or just plain suck. We use several tools including in-game DPS/Heal tracking as well as WWS/WMO to track performance and, while it's nothing personal, if you're level 80 and barely pull 1000 DPS in a 10/25 man Naxx you'll likely have a short tenure in the guild.

A majority of our guild is made up of transfers from other servers, so if you're looking for a fresh start we'd be a pretty good choice.

Our raid days and times are:

Days: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

Times: 8pm CST to 11:30pm CST (Hakkar is CST)

Looting System Used: Zerosum DKP

To apply head to our guild website: http://method.guildomatic.com/

I'd also like to add that my guild on Hakkar (US-Horde) is recruiting 1x Enhancement Shaman, 2x Priest (Disc and Shadow), 1x Warlock, and 1x Hunter.

Hakkar US? That was my first server when I x-fered off it 10 months ago because it was a crappy server. :p If you played on Hakkar from Jan-June last year you would remember Reign. :)
