Servers are down for maintenance... will today be the day of the 3.1 patch I wonder?

Probably not... They would have pushed the game patch via the update server by now. The last week (or 2?) they sent the content update, so they're at least done with that part. :)

(I could be wrong, but that's generally how they do it.)

Hey people,

So I've never played WoW before. Tempted to finally get round to trying it out (I'm also new to MMORPGS in general).

Created a 10 day trial account and have downloaded and installed the client.

Haven't been able to login or anything yet as it's downloading the latest patch.

None of my mates play WoW, so I'll end up being a bit of a loner on here to begin with, so was wondering whether anyone can recommend which servers are good? I gather that seeing as I'm new to WoW, I'd be better off picking a PvE realm for now atleast to prevent me from being ganked.

I was going to roll a Gnome Rogue, but don't know really.

Any recommendations for what I should do/class/race etc would be appreciated.

I was a loner when I started, till I was about lvl 15 and I found a guild to join. It's a tonne more fun if you're in a guild, and it doesn't need to be full of people you know IRL. You'll find something eventually, no matter the server.

Here are the Trial Limitations for anyone doing the trial i have seen several people saying they cannot do one thing or another

* A level cap of 20.

* A maximum of 10 gold.

* Trade skills are capped at 100 ranks.

* Inability to trade via the auction house, mailbox, or player-to-player.

* In-Game public chat channels will be unavailable. (Players will still be able to communicate using say, party, or whispers).

* characters will be unable to create or join existing guilds.

* Accounts will no longer be able to whisper other players unless they have been added to those players? friends lists or have received a whisper from them first.

* characters will not be able to invite players into a party.

* characters will not be able to join parties with other players above level 20.

* Voice Chat is disabled on trial accounts.

* Realms with login queues will give priority to customers with retail accounts.

* Will not be eligible for any character Transfer service.

I've leveled 2 characters to 80, 2 more stopped at 70. While getting ganked isn't the end of the world and it doesn't happen a lot, it does get really annoying when you can't do anything about it.

Now that PVE servers allow transfer to PVP servers there's no reason not to level on a PVE server if it's your first account.

Until you're playing at the very high end (which 99% of people never will) the differences between classes races are so trivial that it isn't worth worrying about. On the off chance that you do end up playing at that level, and that you make the 'wrong' choice now, you can re-roll in no time at all.

When you're at that level picking the wrong class/race is almost less of a problem than picking the wrong professions.

Any recommendations for what I should do/class/race etc would be appreciated.

The ones you think look prettiest form the back: you'll be staring at the rear end for a long time.

I'm really tempted to transfer my mage over to Quel'dorei. Not having bags or gold is the worst feeling ever.

Thanks for the info guys/gals.

Initially I was going to choose a NElf rogue, thinking that they look pretty cool; and the extra agility is beneficial to the class, but choose Gnome when it came to it as if I get into PvP (which is indeed a possibility, battlegrounds etc) then I gather the small size and escape artist will be very advantaegous.

Also, I think they have the best mounts :p

Only negative I've found so far is that when running, looking at my Gnome from behind his body sticks out through the cape; but that's only a minor niggle :p

I can probably hide the cape from view whislt still keeping stats anyway.

Hopefully get level 10 tonight.

:)

    • Looks like the 7.1 is fake effects, can it at least do real 5.1? It says 'virtual 7.1' in all descriptions.
    • You can't, if you didn't notice, it doesn't support surround at all, it's right in the spec list.
    • Hi — I’m always interested in soundcards. Like displays, I just want to know I’m getting as much clean “sonic juice” into my brain as possible as the years take their toll. I’m not entirely sure what to take away from this review, though. It doesn’t really tell me whether the AE‑X is a good product or who it’s actually for. Most of what I’m getting is: there’s a driver to install, here’s what it looks like, and here’s what’s in the box. There’s a lot of emphasis on the SPDIF input. When you mention not needing to switch headphones between console and PC — does that mean the PC has to be powered on just to pass audio through? That seems like a fairly big waste of energy. Is this more something a streamer would use alongside a capture card? How are you testing the sound? (Also, you might want to clarify that you’re using the headphones in wired mode when you mention they’re wireless.) You mention the lack of EMI shielding — how much real‑world difference does that make compared with typical motherboard audio? On multi‑channel: what exactly isn’t supported? Does this mean Windows spatial audio (Dolby Atmos for Headphones, DTS Headphone:X, etc.) won’t work, or just that the card itself doesn’t decode surround formats? And are there any true multi‑driver “surround” headphones left that would even use that? You also highlight support for high‑impedance headphones — but what does that translate to in practice? How does it compare to driving the same headphones from a normal device, and does it make any difference for everyday, lower‑impedance models? In short, who is this card actually targeted at?
    • Yes, THIS is wordart, not the styling that can now be done. Wordart was all about those curvy words, that you could change the path of, like making words go around a circle. I don't think it can be done now, right?
    • Just saw a news report of a Waymo driving into a flooded road.
