Double post but its been too long so I can edit my above topic.

One thing that really got to me last night was I put my newly dinged 80 shammy in the LFG for Naxx 10, Ony 10 and VOA 10. I got a Whisper saying if I was good geared I said I dinged at the weekend and I'm mainly blues however I do have a couple of greens and a couple of epics. I got summoned to VOA to which I was kicked saying "Sorry your gear is too ****ty".

This annoyed me, so rejoined the LFG for the same ones. Someone then whispered me for Onyxia 10. GREAT! They said link Achievment, I said I don't have it on this char but its my 3rd 80 and I have done the fight on both of them. I also mentioned (trying to make sure he realises I'm not just a random noob) that My priest has the title: Twilight Vanquisher and My Warrior has Champion of the Frozen Wastes title.

To this he laughed and said that doesn't mean I know how to do Onyxia!

True but at least it means I know how to play my classes jeebus its only Onyxia 10 man its really not that hard!

I mean how do people expect other to actually GET the title if you need the title to actually go?!

alians fake achievements is how i got most of mine done when pugging. The moment they say link acheivement i link the fake one generated. Most of the time I done stuff with my guild and got the achievements anyway, but it does get annoying linking acheivements that you havent got yet. Our guild basically doesn't care if you have them or not if looking for pugs, we only ask one thing 'Do you know what your doing?' If the answer is yes, you can be in full greens, but do ure job and kill who we sposed to be killing and we will ask you back, and gear you up. :)

HA! I'll give that a try later tonight. Noveed I'm gonna ling you my achievements LOL!

i would not be suprised if you had more than my main and alt combined ;) lol

btw if you need a dps or tank just him me up online ;) most of the time i am availible.

On another note, i main tanked ToC10 last night on my very undergeared DK. Popping hungering cold at the faction champions is priceless and once the healers die the fight is pretty much all over :) .

Got to Anub and gave up after 3 wipes :( on the last attempt we had him down to 17%. I think it went well considering it was an alt run. There was a huge cheer everytime a boss was downed simply because our alts lack decent gear. Was sitting at 41k hp raid buffed when tanking anub my health would dip as low as 2-3% at times and then shoot back up after a cheeky heal, pretty intense stuff. A few badges away from the nice Triumph tanking helm so maybe this week i shall get a nice upgrade :D

The achievement / gear thing gets old very fast. I think people just take this game WAY too seriously. I mean, I understand how time is valuable to people and they don't want to wipe, but comon, some people just want to have fun and play the game without worrying they are 100 points off the required gear score to get into a PUG. It's getting pretty retarded.

Hopefully cross-server instances will fix this.

Did at VOA25/10 yesterday and got lots of goodies on my rogue alt, sadly i logged out in my pve gear....but now i just need a ring and trinket and im ready to arena it up!!

On a side not we go tribute to mad skill last night ^_^ 47 attempts left.

It will most likely still be possible for addons like gear score to detect how good each players gear is i reckon, if achievements wont do the trick then another addon will.

I am not going to deny it i sometimes do use gear score too. I do find that players better geared than me can pull out less dps. I recall being in VoA25 once and i was sitting on a GS of 4600ish and there was another hunter with a gearscore of 5100ish. Managed to do 7k dps on korolarn whereas the other hunter with better gear only managed 4.8k. My damage done was also substantially higher too. Most of the times it is Skill>Gear but there are cases where gear can compensate for a terribad player making them look half decent.

What i personally do not agree with is freshly ding'd 80s getting carried through places like Uldaur, VoA (new bosses) and ToC. They tend to have ilvl 187 gear and can jump to 232... which is in my eyes wrong, there is no real progression at all there.

Might work, might not, they find you using that though and you'll be hoofed just as quick as you were invited then ignored for any future runs by most.

Make sure you do a bit of research on the guild first you don't want to end up ignore by the top 10 raiding guilds on the realm tbh. :F

Its for PUGs, not guilds.

And its easy, if someone takes the time to compare achievements and yours doesn't match what the link you showed says, you just say 'idk whats wrong with it, it shows completed on my end.'

Edit: The only thing to remember is that you have to know how to do the fights. If they notice your achievements match up AND you don't know how to kill Boss X, then they will know something is fishy and probably kick you.

As far as being blacklisted goes, thats as simple as a name change or realm transfer to fix, so its never a big deal. In reality, you really aren't doing anything wrong. If you don't **** up their raid, there won't be a problem.

Doesn't matter, if you're in greens you're going to do a lot less DPS than someone in ilevel 213. Talking of greens, this is a new gimmick I saw cropping up on my realm. I saw it in my VoA10 put not 10 mins ago:

"RW| Illese: If your below 3.5k DPS you don't get any loot. Mkay? Leave now if you don't like it."

I personally hope it catches on, reason being, as people have said any moron can get an achievement. But if they don't do the DPS required they won't get the loot to clog up another raid. :)

Ok so I'm sitting here at University bored so I decided to contemplate about WoW.

Patch 3.3 is the PTR's, the last content patch of Wrath of the Lich King. Wrath of the Lich king was released on November 13th, 2008. I'm banking on a Christmas/holiday release of patch 3.3, I can see then see the Feast of Winter Veil being revamped in this patch(it seriously needs a revamp!). Assuming patch 3.3 does hit in December the entire story line and the life cycle(which concludes at the release of the last big patch) of Wrath will be over in just over 1 year since it's debut.

This expansion has gone by too fast I think. Hell, I still havent settled in to Wrath, it still feels like a new game somewhat. I remember hitting 80 on Sunday, the weekend of the week the expansion came out. It was awesome! I look back at leveling to 80 and was like "Wow, I had a really fun time leveling", the only thing I regret about it was staying up for 48 hours straight the moment from when Wrath launched to get ahead of everyone(and by the time I did go to bed I was 75 respectively). Running the instances, exploring new zones I've never been too before, gearing up for Naxxramas, it was really fun and was the last time I actually wasnt bored of the game, I always had something to do. I still often look back during those days, of course like anything I'm making it more rosy than it really was. In truth getting to level 80 was a race and I won it(I was the 3rd person to hit 80 in guild, and 3rd Orc on the server to do so), the GM estimated it would take 2 weeks to grind to 80, I did it in 4 days.

Now fast forward to today and we're knocking on the door to Icecrown Citadel after a very good patch(3.1) and a bad one(3.2), I mean, where has that year gone?

I felt Wrath of the Lich King endgame has failed compared to the Burning Crusade. Burning Crusade hit the nail on the end in difficulty. Karazhan was a fantastic intro raid dungeon and arguably the best raid they ever designed. I was one of the few that enjoyed SSC and TK. I was never a fan of BT or Hyjal but I loved ZA. The thing The Burning Crusade failed at was an intro 25 man raid. Gruul's and Mags failed to establish as an intro raid so players were forced to see 25 man raiding for real in a Tier 5 raid. I''m glad Blizzard fixed this in Wrath.

Wrath of the Lich King however, my god, it's too easy. It requires no skill to defeat the bosses in these instances. Now we have all these bad players running around in T9 doing 2K DPS or speced 71/0/0. You used to be able to judge skill by Gear, it took skill to get T6 and T5, if you saw players with this gear you knew they had some skill at least. Today you cannot, granted it's been replaced with the achievement system. Blizzard's response is the introduction of hard modes which has saw the hardest encounter ever in the game's history(Yogg 25 + 0) which is really funny and almost contradicting to what I've been saying.

The raids themselves, I felt were better in TBC not from a difficulty stand point but from a quality standpoint. Again Karazhan was a beautiful raid, and BT/Hyjal were well done too, there was alot of effort put into those(ok maybe not so much Hyjal). In Wrath we're given Ulduar so far as the only high quality raid. ToC is pale and took 5 minutes to create.

However it's not all doom and gloom at the endgame in Wrath. I really enjoyed the championing system introduced to help alleviate the rep grind, I also think the tiered emblem system is a great idea, and fixes a major problem in TBC.

As I look ahead to Cataclysm in which we must be hearing of an alpha soon I hope Blizzard fixes the wrong of Wrath and gives us the best of Wrath and TBC.

I must say, I agree on the whole asking for achievements/gearscore thing.

I've never been in a good, casual raiding guild until now, so any content before Trial of the Grand Crusader I experienced for the first time in a PuG. I see it from both sides. On one hand, it sucked that people wouldn't let me come because I consider myself a very quick learner. If you tell me what to do for the fight, I'll do it; I may screw up the first time, but chances are I'll be fine after that. On the other hand, I understand wanting a quick, easy run devoid of idiots or people with low gear that won't help it go any faster. Sure, asking for an achievement or checking somebody's gearscore doesn't guarantee skill, but it simply means there's a much better chance that, even if that person is a moron, they can at least pull their weight during the run.

You just have to look for the PuGs that aren't asking for that stuff and you'll be fine. They're not happening all the time but they do happen. Hell, I got into my first EoE run by simply whispering the guy, "Hey, I've never been, but I'm a quick learner," and even though he was asking for the achievement he still invited me. So you never know -- some people are more understanding than others.

And speaking of ToGC, we finally tried it as a guild last week. We had actually planned to run it Friday (when I would have been out of town), but we had a ToC10 run on Thursday night. The first group that went (the group I was in) blew through it in 30 minutes. It was great. We worked so well together as a group. So after that, we were discussing ToGC for Friday, but were finding out that a few people from our group would not be able to make it. We decided to just go ahead and try that night.

We didn't down anything, but this was the first time I ever felt like part of a real raiding guild. We learned as we went. Only a few people had ever been to ToGC before, so we were learning as a group and figuring out what we were doing wrong and what we needed to change. After several attempts, we ended up getting Icehowl to 10%... at which point, somebody got knocked into a doorway during one of his slams, so he couldn't get out in time and got hit (if you don't know, ToGC doesn't give you the speed boost when you need to run away from Icehowl). We had to call it a night soon after that.

Apparently they were able to down Icehowl on Friday. I wish I'd been there, but I'm sure we'll do it again this Friday and probably get a little further.

Also, if you haven't seen them, more tier 10 sets:

Meh, I dunno man. I worked pretty hard getting epic'd out without the need for raids. My gearscore going at 2100+ going up by 300 or so just in the last week, my DPS averaging around 3300-3400 consistently... Why you would want to start raiding immediately first is beyond me. I mean, I know it will help you out, but so will working up through heroics. Blizzard made it easy to get good gear with conquest emblems dropping in them now, yet it seems like you want an even easier route, without even trying to get into a guild.

I'll say this much at least... pugging a raid kind of sucks, especially when the group you're going with consists of mostly of some other guild. To them, their guildies will certainly take priority over you. Hell, even newbies to a guild may have gear go above their heads until or unless they are sure you'll be sticking around with them.

Considering you're an experienced player though, you should know all this already. :/

Well I was in a hardcore raiding guild with my old mage main, but I've since switched to my pally and never looked back. I'm trying to get to where I was on my other character now, and I've had enough with guilds TBH, I don't like having to commit to dates/times, and I know that's pretty much required to get good gear, but so far I've managed OK without.

That being said I completely understand where people are coming from with gearscore /achievements, however, I wish Blizzard never introduced achievements lol. I am a fast learner too when it comes to most things, but that doesn't seem to matter on my server (switching pretty soon though).

Quick question, my wifes computer is lower end than mine, but her video card currently wont play WoW (QQ) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...-147R-_-Product Will that work with WotLK? I don't want to spend a lot of money on it, as I will only be using her computer when she's on mine ... playing Aion :l

Burning Legion is down

We're continuing ToC 25 tonight in an hour. Hopefully it's back up and running by then.

Oh, and because I'm so bored right now, I'm bringing back a classic:

^ Hahah! That's great.

@vip, you'd probably get a better response out of the Hardware forum. Personally, I wouldn't buy that card. Remember that just because a game may play smoothly when you start a new character, doesn't mean you'll be playing decently when you hit up some battlegrounds, instancing, raiding, or even trying to move around a big city. Also, remember that how powerful your computer is can also have an effect on how well the game plays. Just because you have a $300 Compaq that has a free PCI-e slot doesn't mean throwing in a great card will do much for it. When/if you make your post in the Hardware Hangout, be sure to include the specs on your current system so that you can obtain the best advice possible for your given situation.

Never said anything about gear.

Just an example of Gear<Skill can be seen here, checking recount "Gear Score" i was i think 7th or 8th on the list and definitly not the best geared hunter. It was mostly a guild run with a few pugs.

Yeah, I'm the same way. I'm usually around 7 or 8 in a 25 man and 4 or 5 in a 10 man, but I'm almost always on top in DPS. It's amazing how many people don't know how to play their classes the correct way to squeeze the most out of them.

DPS meters don't mean diddly.

You can roll a warlock, get mediocre gear and roll your face on the keyboard and you'll always be in the top when it comes to dps.

Then as a comparison, roll a druid, go boomkin and no matter how well you play, no matter how good your gear is, how perfect your talent build is and how precisely you execute your abilities, you will NEVER be top dps. Not even close. Guys with vastly worse gear will ALWAYS outperform you and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.
