Apple to drop sub-$500 Mac bomb at Expo

so am i to understand i could use my PC monitor with this thing? if thats the case i am wondering if they have like a spliter thing so it can like be switched between the mac and the pc like i just fick a switch when both are off and it changes the display to the mac from the pc and vice versa.

I don't know how good of a idea this is. I had a dual G4 1ghz with Jaguar on it earlier this year. I found it to be very sluggish and slow. So I sold it and went back to my PC. I now own a Dual G5 1.8 and am very happy with it. I think with this system trying to get PC users to switch may put a bad taste in their mouths if it is slow. If I didn't have other friends that got a G5 then I wouldn't have tried it again (thankfully I did). I really think this system should be a G5. Also not having a DVD writer takes away from some of the 'wow' factor of the Mac. I hope that these components are able to be swapped out with larger hard drives and DVD writers.

I just wish they could make a nice mid-range computer with no display.  Similar to the G5 but a little toned down.  I think this thing is going to be a little too weak for the average user.  Hopefully they will offer plenty of options on the apple store when it comes out.  I'd like one with a faster proc and the super drive.

I don't suppose you've ever used a Mac before...

This thing is expected to ship with a base CPU of a 1.25Ghz G4. My powerbook is a 1Ghz G4 and I have never noticed my laptop being 'slow' or 'weak' and I do a lot with it.

I hear a lot of "Apple should do this" or "They should add that". Well guess what people? The marketing teams at Apple know a hell of a lot more about selling their products than you do.

256MB is a good amount. It's enough to run most everday apps just fine, and if you need more, you're better off getting it from Crucial or Kingston anyway. Apple overcharges for their RAM.

A G4 1.25Ghz is a great processor for this machine. It'll handle anything you can throw at it, especially if you fall in the target demographic for this machine. If you're whining that this process won't handle your apps, then this machine isn't for you. Duh.

A regular CD-burner is also the right move here. It keeps the cost down, and most people still have little use for a DVD-burner.

its called a KVM switch

Hey guys, how reliable is AppleInsider?

They say on their site that this 'iMac' will be powered by a brick like power adapter, similar to those found with apple laptop.s They also claim that this unit will be sub-$600, still pretty cheap if you convert to English pounds!

What's wrong with the emac?

I don't understand the purpose of this new mac machine. Apple trying to be more like PC. Whatever happened to "think different?" It's more like "think like dell" now.

Isn't the whole idea of people are trying to get away from PCs when they purchase an all in one mac computer?

Seeing as how Dell is extremely successful, maybe it wouldn't be bad for Apple to "think like Dell". It doesn't matter if the hardcore Apple users want to remain few in number, Apple wants to sell more units. They don't care about ****ing off a few people who think that using a Mac somehow makes them "elite". Apple just wants to sell more units and make more profit like every other business. Can you fault them for that?

It's all about the display. I have my own 19" 1600x1200 display which this thing should be able to output.

I got a computer for $200 this thanksgiving, Cel (90nm @ 2.66GHz) , 512 DDR Ram, 80GB hard drive, XP Home, DVD, CD-RW. Apple won't even give you a worthless ipod mini for that much  :p  :p  :p

Therefore, this news is lame

All that for $200?I don't think so. I smell BS.

    • Yup, broke my comp… again. its times like this when I regret AMD. This just never happens on NV.
    • Huh? You're delusional calling the Steam Deck dead. It is so successful that it has sold out multiple times. Even after the price hike this year it sold out again with 24 hours of being back in stock. The demand is real and has not died down even after four years.
