Xbox or Gamecube - Game wise

Recommended Posts

It really depends on what type of games you want. I don't own any console, but I prefer XBox.

Choose XBox, for sure, if you like sports and racing games. Nintendo keeps its characters and games (Zelda, everything Mario, Metroid) alive forever so choose that console if you like those games. My pro/con list is as follows.

XBox

better graphics

better controller

built in hard drive

GameCube

cheap

Nintendo characters

badly designed controller - "Z" button seems like a cheap afterthought

That's all I can think of atm.

you forgot halo series for xbox :p

Ok, about games, xbox has a lot of real beat em ups, not some push over like super shams bros., xbox has halo which is compared to metroid prime, xbox has bigger variety of rpgs, including one of my favorites, Morrowind: Goty, xbox has more games than gamecube, xbox has really more violent and mature games, I dont know where people see fun in nintendo's games and dont see how exciting is too play some Halo. Gamecube is kinda closed console, the games from nintendo are only to gamecube, and xbox has a lot of games who are coming to pc, or are coming from pc to xbox.

Still xbox is a better choice...

With the Gamecube being a bit under AU$200 here and Xbox $300, I've been leaning towards Nintendo's console, yet, the problem is I don't know about the games, if a game like Metroid Prime: Echoes is any good or if it's even worth buying (the console) for just single player.

You're looking in the wrong places. You can get GameCubes here for AU$129 and Xboxes for AU$239 or even less.

I have both and they both are good, but I just got Xbox Live and it's worth it for that alone! Halo 2 is so fun online. :D

If I were you, I'd look at the types of games on each system and consider which you prefer for yourself. Or get both. :p

I decided to go to a gaming website and select the top-rated games for each console. Putting them in seperate lists, I discovered that more of the games I would most likely purchase come from the Gamecube, not saying they are all good or longer in gameplay than the Xbox titles but there is the first look. I also noticed that these lists are totally different. I'll list the games that I picked and hope some people can help me out with some of these.

Xbox

Halo 2 - I've played this many time and would say I would only enjoy it on Live.

Ninja Gaiden - Don't know if it is my kind of game.

Fable - I think I'll enjoy an RPG in my collection though with KOTOR II... I may not buy this.

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II - I've played the first and thought it was good but never did complete it.

Jet Set Radio Future - Probably the most "different" style of gaming in the Xbox collection I tend to buy.

MechAssault 2 - Don't know much but I'm sure this is one of the Live games I will enjoy along with Halo 2.

Gamecube

Viewtiful Joe 2 - Positive I will enjoy this though I haven't played either the sequal or prequal.

Super Monkey Ball 2 - Looks fun and I'm sure it is.

Pikmin 2 - I still don't understand what Pikmin is but said to be a great single player game, can anyone emphasize on what this game is? All I know it is a puzzle.

Paper Mario 2 - Unsure but looks... cool. ;o

F-Zero GX - N/A

Super Mario Sunshine - Is this worthy?

Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker - Is this worthy?

Super Smash Bros. Melee - 99% sure I will enjoy this, liked the one on the Nintendo 64 so very positive I have nothing to lose once it has been bought.

Donkey Konga - I need a good bongo game, hah.

You can tell from my comments that I really don't have any clue on what I'm buying for the Gamecube. All I know is that they look fun even for one player.

Where were the prices for those? It's most likely due to me living in more of a rural area that they are a tad expensive. I got the Gamecube price from Big W and the Xbox price from Target. Maybe Electronics Boutique will have them cheaper as they are a dedicated gaming store.

Funny enough, I actually looked into the libraries of each console as I was a tad bored.

and i found this...

A few scientists discovered that kids like gamecube better than the rest. They put 4 kids in a room with all 3 games and they all played the gamecube. The kids like it because it had 4 controlers. It had small disks. It was small. It had Metroid Prime 2 in it. Xbox had halo 2 in it and the kids didn't know how to play it. PS2 has GTA san andreas and they didn't like that game because it was too hard. Now MP2 was easy because of that they played against aliens. That show kids like Gamecube better.

If Mp2 has aliens, then halo 2 has what?

That is a progress...what's with the scientists today...

By the way, defenders of gamecube, what is your age?

My age is 15, and im seeking a good opportunity to sell this console, even if I had another one now, its still taking too much time from my life, im not gonna play at your ages when you all are 27,28...

I with this guy. I prefer gamecube, I just love the zelda games. Who cares if Wind Waker is cartoony it is still fun.

585226145

The reason why they made Wind Waker the way it is is because Link is a little boy in the game and the graphics represent the way he looks at the world. In the next game Link is an adult and the graphics will be "real". Wind Waker have exelent graphics and animation, it beats every other adventure game out there. As do all Zelda games.

It's patethic to see all the crappy post that ignorant fanboys make. Know your systems before you post. GC have the best 1st party games of the consoles on the marked. Nintendo is all about quality.

Where exactly did you find that? With the punctuation problems and abbreviations used to introduce new products makes it sound pretty unreliable.

Actually I just googled Xbox vs Gamecube, and one of the first sites appearing was a forum...it had that info, and then the same discussions that are basically are in every site, always between consoles.

Knuxus, you don't really like Gamecube, do you? :pinch:

Nintendo's always made the best games. Metroid Prime > Halo. There is absolutely, positively NO question about that.

deepfriedmario, if you liked the first SSB, you'll LOVE Melee. It's a great game. I still play it with my little brother every once in a while for some console chaos

 Lol, the lame GameCube is a kiddie console excuse. Perhaps you were asleep when the Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness, Soul Calibur, Mortal Kombat, Serious Sam, Call of Duty, etc. games were released.

first off. your quote was the exact thing i tNhought, i realized SOME the X-Box games were ALREADY on the PC.. or going to be, i already got a decent gaming PC. why do i need x-box then?

when i can play all the nintendo quality games.. or watered down PC games, i went the route of top quality Nintendo games. you went down for the watered down PC. is it because you dont have that great of a PC?

Here in europe, xbox costs about 149euros with halo2 and 2 controllers, and gamecube costs 100euros with one controller and a cheap game like mario sunshine, or luigis mansion...

585228347

hey, i enjoyed luigis mansion, sure it wasn't the best.. but it was still fun..

wow, i guess im older than you and i still (im my opinion) play a better list then you. now you must understand. you dont want little kids to play san andrez, it will ruin their minds at very young age's. and YES i will buy san andrez, when it comes to the PC. because it will have FREE and ONLINE with multitheft auto. something the x-box doesn't put out in a game.

you were not reading my previous posts eh!? well, if you had youd understand there is no better choice.. why do you prefer microsoft and some other dude prefers linux? is it because hes a old nerd and were young kids who like microsoft?. i dont think so. i just happen to like nintendo's innovation that no other console offers. i do not care too much about online play, especially in a console. do you not understand there is no better console? its all on preferences and your facts do not make sence.. i dont even think you ever played a gamecube in your life because you are getting really false sources.. and thats what everybody does.. "its a kiddy system".. give me a fact i don't know!.

maybe i happen to like kiddy games, and same as all of my neibors? were kids at heart? or maybe we just got good tastes?

i'm 21, soon to be 22, and I love my GC. Ever since i got my GC i never play my ps2 unless there is a game like GTA that isn't for GC also.

Where were the prices for those? It's most likely due to me living in more of a rural area that they are a tad expensive. I got the Gamecube price from Big W and the Xbox price from Target. Maybe Electronics Boutique will have them cheaper as they are a dedicated gaming store.

585228281

Well the GameCube is $128 in Big W over here and I think the Xbox is $244 or something. I've seen it for less but can't remember where. Plus EB usually have the highest prices, as the other stores usually sell below the retail price, while EB usually doesn't.

Get both if you can afford it :) I have had an xbox for a few years and my girlfriend and I picked up a Gamecube for $99 w free 2nd controller and Mario Kart. A lot of good games are Player's Choice (under $20) like Zelda, Metroid Prime, etc. It's a fun system, Nintendo still makes some incredible games. I'm 22 btw.

Frankly I'm a little dissapointed with the XBOX of late. I play more movies on it than games. Most good XBOX games I can play on PC, and the exclusives have been dissapointing (HALO 2.) PS2 has San Andreas, MGS3, etc. (Thinking about getting one of those too!)

Ahh - ok. Probably should base it one whether you prefer Nintendo 64 or PC (assuming you have played games on both). N64=NGC, PC=XBOX.

I honestly have no idea with the Mario games - only ever got to play 'em in the shop (on GC). However I can say that I still whip out my NES and enjoy playing Super Mario Bros. - to this day!

BTW if you like online - XBOX Live is probably the best system I've encountered.

585221276

That's when you have your xbox and start up your NES emulator on your xbox like I do so frequently :). I have recently got back into playing my younger obsession, Mike Tyson's Punchout. Amazing game, makes me so glad I have my emulators on my xbox :D

If you are a fan of sick twisted japanese cartoon styles and crazy non-sense robotic stories you should get a Gamecube. If you are real you should get an XBOX.

585230221

HAHAHAHA. That makes some sense. Final Fantasy anybody????

Ok, about games, xbox has a lot of real beat em ups, not some push over like super shams bros., xbox has halo which is compared to metroid prime, xbox has bigger variety of rpgs

585228234

What do you mean by beat-em-up? You means games like Viewtiful Joe? If so GameCube has more just because of that series, Super Smash Brothers is a party/fighting game, Xbox does have more true fighting games though.

Halo doesn't compare with metroid at all, two totally different games. Halo will compare more with Geist, Metroid is Zelda in first person and a gun instead of a sword.

Western RPGs yes, but in 2004 GameCube got two great Japanese RPGs, Xbox has how many of those?

Now MP2 was easy because of that they played against aliens.

By the way, defenders of gamecube, what is your age?

My age is 15, and im seeking a good opportunity to sell this console, even if I had another one now, its still taking too much time from my life, im not gonna play at your ages when you all are 27,28...

585228384

MP2 is not easy. It's not the most difficult game I've ever played, but not easy. GTA is amuch easier game to jump into and play.

I'm 20.

MP2 is not easy. It's not the most difficult game I've ever played, but not easy. GTA is amuch easier game to jump into and play.

585230816

I thought it was very easy- much more so than the first game. It was also one of the top five gaming experiences of my life.

As I said before, GameCube. I have nothing against X Box. Anyone here can tell you how much I like Halo 2. But GameCube's best titles are THE best titles out there.

    • JBL BAR 800 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos soundbar is an amazing deal today by Sayan Sen This Amazon Prime Day 2026 sales so far we have had a couple of nice deals related to sound and audio. First we have the Sennheiser HD 600 at its lowest ever price of just $225. Next we also have the Beats Studio Pro at its lowest price ever at just $150. However perhaps you prefer your gear to sound great on a larger scale, like throughout the room. In that case an all-in-one soundbar system can help and currently JBL's BAR 800 is a great deal for sure as it's up for grabs at just $600 (purchase link under the specs table down below). One thing that should be appreciated a lot about these JBL soundbars is their spec sheet and the frequency response data it provides. The firm is honest about it as JBL confirms the subwoofer is able to go down to 35 Hz at -6dB or F6. This means it should be covering 40Hz and up very well, where most of the bass lies. You miss out on a lot of sub-bass but that is to be expected given the price point and the subwoofer driver size. Speaking of which, it is a 10-inch driver and promises a max output power of 300 watts at 1% THD (total harmonic distortion). JBL also claims the system will provide you with a "True Dolby Atmos" experience. The surround speakers are wireless and battery-powered which means setting them up should be really convenient. The technical specs of the JBL BAR 800 are given in the table below: Specification Value Channel Configuration 5.1.2-channel soundbar system Dolby Atmos Yes, with 2 up-firing drivers Total System Power Output 720 W Soundbar Power Output 340 W Surround Speaker Power Output 2 × 40 W Subwoofer Power Output 300 W Soundbar Drivers 3 × 46×90 mm racetrack drivers, 3 × 20 mm tweeters, 2 × 70 mm up-firing full-range drivers Surround Speaker Drivers 1 × 46×90 mm racetrack driver (each speaker) Subwoofer Driver 10-inch (260 mm) wireless subwoofer Frequency Response 35 Hz – 20 kHz (-6 dB) Audio Inputs Optical, Bluetooth, Chromecast built-in, AirPlay, Alexa Multi-Room Music (MRM), USB* HDMI Inputs 1 HDMI video input HDMI Output 1 HDMI eARC output HDCP Version 2.3 HDR Pass-Through HDR10, Dolby Vision Bluetooth Version 5.0 Wi-Fi Version 6, 6E Streaming Services Chromecast built-in, Apple AirPlay, Alexa MRM Get it at the link below: JBL Bar 800-5.1.2-Channel Dolby Atmos soundbar with Detachable Surround Speakers (Black): $599.85 (Sold and Shipped by Amazon US with Prime) Prime subscription can be cancelled within three business days. • Microsoft releases PowerToys v0.100.1, fixes a bug that made remapped keys misbehave by Ivan Jenic Microsoft just released PowerToys v0.100.1, a patch update that addresses several stability and behavior issues found in v0.100.0. The v0.100.0 patch was a significant update for PowerToys, as it introduced all sorts of new features and additions, such as a rebuilt Shortcut Guide, a Command Palette Extension Gallery, webcam overlay support in ZoomIt, and more. However, the v0.100.0 version also introduced some bugs and stability issues. And now, Microsoft is addressing these issues in the new patch. The most impactful fix in this release perhaps is in Keyboard Manager, where remapped modifier keys were being delivered as system-key events, causing unexpected behavior in apps. The clearest example of this was Alt-to-Backspace remaps, deleting whole words instead of a single character. So, if you thought there was an issue with your keyboard, Microsoft just confirmed that it was PowerToys. Beyond the Keyboard Manager fix, v0.100.1 also addresses several other issues. It fixes a bug with Power Display that was preventing monitors from waking from standby correctly. Additionally, the new update patches Quick Access crashes on launch, and resolves a Shortcut Guide crash that occurred when switching between sidebar sections. Here’s the full changelog: Color Picker Fixed a bug where the main Color Picker window could appear inside the zoomed-in picker view Command Palette Fixed Run history initialization in AOT builds Fixed a bug where the Performance Monitor dock item could show ??? after restart Fixed the Hibernate command using the Sleep icon Limited the "pin to dock" dialog to displays where the dock is enabled Keyboard Manager Fixed modifier keys remapped to non-modifier keys being delivered as system-key events, which caused unexpected behavior in apps such as Alt-to-Backspace deleting whole words Power Display Fixed a bug where selecting On in the monitor power-state control did not wake a monitor from standby Fixed built-in display detection and brightness control on dual-GPU laptops where the internal panel is driven by the discrete GPU PowerToys Run Fixed VS Code Workspaces discovery after VS Code moved recently opened workspace data to shared storage Quick Access Fixed Quick Access flyout crashes caused by unhandled XAML exceptions during launch or page navigation Shortcut Guide Fixed a crash when navigating between Shortcut Guide sidebar sections Fixed number-key rendering in shortcut manifests and added a Postman shortcut manifest Updated bundled shortcut manifests to use the literal number-key token so number keys render correctly across apps ZoomIt Fixed a race condition in audio initialization for ZoomIt video recording You can download PowerToys v0.100.1 from the official GitHub releases page.
