Xbox or Gamecube - Game wise

Recommended Posts

maybe a year ago i would have said GC, but now... man the xbox has just too much going for it compared to the gamecube. I know you dont want it for multiplayer... but having xbox live as an OPTION instead of nothing is great. You dont need to buy a mem card with the xbox thanks to its HUGE hdd and if you want to have dvd capability you just need to buy a peripheral and the xbox becomes a dvd player... go one step further and chip the xbox so you can play divx files right off the hdd and youve just turned the xbox into a media centre! if you do chip it, you can actually get linux running on it and the usb hidden interface for the controllers is perfect for some keyboard/mouse mod, and if your not daring enough for that there is the smart joy adaptor. A bunch of exclusives, a ton of best sellers and not to mention in 6-8 months GTA SanAndreas and the Xbox is a winner.

Now look what the Gamecube has going for it... A halfassed Mario game (Sunshine), A halfassed Zelda game (windwaker) and a really good Metroid Double punch. I dont mean to insult the gamecube (i own one, which is collecting dust), but how can i not when it seems like the GC has ntohing going for it!

So i leave you with this... Buy an xbox and experience a world of gaming or buy a GC and experience a great looking room at hotel nintendo.. you decide ;)

Gamecube all the way. The "greatest" XBOX game is Halo, and you can play that on a PC.

However, in GCN you have Mario, Metroid, Zelda (with the new one coming this year, can't wait !!) which you can only play here.

maybe a year or 2 ago this was true, but Halo 2? in my book, more of the same, but not crap. Fable? again not all it could be, but it can easily hold its own against any of the greatest GC games. If Rare was a reason to get a GC a year ago, i think its a reason to get an xbox now ;) hehehe

and is anyone else tired of hearing the "mario, zelda metroid" excuse for why the GC is the greatest console EVVERRRR!? ;)

Then what about:

- Resident Evil Remake

- Resident Evil 4

- Star Fox Adventures

- Star Fox 2

- Baten Kaitos

To name a few... ;)

if ya wanna play new and different games go with xbox

if u wanna play the same games uve been playing on nintendo for the past 20 years over and over go with game cube thats about it, reguardless of graphics since the thread specify's "Game wise"

Strongly disagree. Out of the three consoles Nintendo is truely the only innovator. Yes they may be using the same characters for the past 20 years, but the games they are placed in have evolved with each console. Nintendo is the only one who seem to go against the popular opinion to try new things instead of going with the same old same old.

What are these new and different games you speak of that the XBox has?

i guess what many people mean by new is new character, storys and so on... in my mind, I love Mario, Zelda and Metroid.. but again i also have to say same old, same old when Mario part 10 comes out ;) hehehehe i know what your gunna say Final Fantasy and other seris' like that have reach double digit sequels... but you have to keep in mind each on (except for X2) has a whole new cast and storyline. Other than the DS Nintendo has innovated anything game or hardware wise since Mario 64, the only reason people think Donkey Konga is innovative is because other people who have done things like that are not as popular and hence not as recognized for their achivements... Samba De Amigo anyone? ;)

By innovation I am talking about how they are trying to move their games/series/consoles in new directions. There is no way that you could say that Sony and MS have been sticking their necks out on the line like Nintendo has done over the years. For example: Nintendo creating the Virtual Boy, they take their games in a different direction against popular demand (Wind Waker), or creating interactivity between a hand held gaming system and a console, the Pokemon camera and voice thing, Donkey Konga bongos, a dual/touchscreen hand held gaming system, rob the robot, the light zapper, the SNES bazooka thing, the power glove, the power pad floor mat, etc. You can even look how many damn characters Nintendo has made over time, more then MS and Sony probably will ever make. When it comes to making up new ideas either gamewise or hardware wise and throwing them out there to see what happens, Nintendo is king.

Gamewise, Nintendo's franchise games have bigger jumps in innovation then the console only games for MS and Sony. I think the jump from Super Mario 64 to Super Mario Sunshine is bigger then the jump from Halo to Halo2 or the jump from Metal Gear Solid 1 to Metal Gear Solid 2. You could even replace Sunshine with Super Metroid to Metroid Prime, or Zelda64 to Windwaker, etc and they still would be bigger jumps then sequels produced by MS or Sony.

you cant forget the E-Reader for the gameboy advance, although i havn't seen it or the cards that go in it.

The e-Reader scans data from special trading cards then loads the information into the Game Boy Advance. The trading cards can hold an entire Classic Nintendo game in only a few cards! You won't believe it until you swipe it!

Current Software:

Mario Party-e

Donkey Kong Jr-e

Excitebike-e

Balloon Fight-e

Pinball-e

Tennis-e

Pokemon-e

Game & Watch-e

Animal Crossing -e

& other Classic Nintendo games.

although i am not quite interested in it, it is another example of Nintendo's Innovation.

Well, sure, I don't need to buy a memory card but with the extra money going for the Xbox due to the hard drive, it is really, just similar to buying a memory card. With the DVD playback, no, I don't want it as I already have enough in my house. Remember, I do own a PlayStation 2 already, so that crosses out Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas as I already own it. I also won't be chipping anything as I don't feel the need to own something like that as I have my PC for those stuff which can run on my television and sure, there are burnt games but I rather own legit games. So in the end, most of the things you mentioned, are out of my list.

And from what others have mentioned about the GameCube games I have been thinking about (not on this message board) and they all sound rather fun. The whole Xbox experience thing, many of the games do seem appealing but I have to say, I think the GameCube will unleash more of a fun factor for me as I haven't played these kind of games for quite some time and think I will actually enjoy it for the time being.

Anyways, I ended up buying a GameCube. The following quote made by me was taken from another message board.

I bought a platinum GameCube early in the afternoon, it was on special so I saved a few tens but at the store I didn't find many GameCube games I liked or could play by myself over and over again without getting tired of it. I went to Electronics Boutique to see what they had, none of the stores I went to had a huge selection of GameCube games but anyways, EB Games probably had one of the greater selections. It took me awhile to find some of the games even though it was so little. I had a few choices for my first game to purchase. I wasn't sure how much money I really had so I aimed at just purchasing one game at the moment or two "Player's Choice" games plus a memory card.

There were a few that I mentioned previously and in the end, I bought Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. I have only done one hour on the game and have to say I haven't played a game like this since Nintendo 64 days. I love the battle concept but I don't know how well this will go off after having hundreds of these. The paper-style is also a refreshing visual to look at but one problem I have with the game is the so much text. I swear I won't be able to keep up with the story just reading it. The game was on sale as well so I got my products pretty cheap.

By the way, the salesman gave me a choice of either the larger capacity of a memory card or the smaller size. I didn't know if I needed the whatever-blocks or not so I chose the smaller. Was that a bad move? It was about $10 more if I did go with the larger. I thought I wouldn't need it as I'm just looking for around a few games to buy but with Paper Mario taking like 17 blocks, I think it was a bad choice.

Don't know what my next game will be. I can't find any Viewtiful Joe games so that's out of the question. I think I found Pikmin 2, F-Zero GX, Legends Of Zelda: The Wind Waker (Player's Choice), Super Mario Sunshine (Player's Choice), Donkey Konga and Metroid Prime (half price but not Player's Choice).

Oh yeah, better save my money for a Wavebird controller.

You can read my similar entry here.

Edit: Damn, the larger one is 251 or something and only $10 more. I'm such a stupid idiot.

Nintendo also released the 1019. Which is finally equal to the 8MB memory cards Sony and Microsoft have offered since the begining :p

Oh well, look on the bright side. Developers were forced to optimize their Cube saves file sizes so they could fit on the earlier smaller cards, so one 8MB card is basically enough for anyone - unless you buy lots of sports titles of course ;)

Gamecube for sure!

I had a PS2 and wanted an alternative, got a Gamecube and I play it more than the PS2! Nintendo just make fun games and for multiplayer there isnt a better console. I love my gamecube, I know alot of people think it's 'kiddy' but who cares when it's so much more fun, and nintendo have the guts to push the boundaries of games like bringing in Bongos as a controller and Mario Party 6 has the use of the mic, nintendo have been in this buisness for much longer, they know what games need to keep them fresh.

    • I wonder how many are laid off for cost savings, and this being blamed on AI to make it sound less scary and bad, for a more positive "modern, with the times" spin for investors? Because Oracle is down 14% the past year. We're looking at a company struggling here. If AI would actually be working out so well for them that they can do massive layoffs, surely this would've been reflected the past year in their stock value?
    • AI is the beginning, wait until real robots replace more jobs, specifically jobs that require physical work.
    • AI is indeed eliminating jobs, and Oracle just proved it by Hamid Ganji There’s no question that AI has become the hottest trend in workplaces, and every company is trying to adopt AI-driven solutions across its operations. While some industry leaders repeatedly say AI won’t lead to massive layoffs, recent data suggest that AI is actually one of the main reasons some companies are reducing their workforce. According to Oracle’s annual regulatory filing, the company has laid off about 21,000 employees, or 13% of its workforce, amid increasing AI adoption. “The adoption and deployment of AI technologies across our operations have resulted, and may continue to result, in reductions to our workforce,” Oracle said in the filing. The software giant now has approximately 141,000 full-time employees, a notable decrease from 162,000 during the same period last year. Restructuring expenses, including severance payments, cost Oracle $1.84 billion in fiscal 2026. Additionally, around 49,000 Oracle employees were based in the U.S., while approximately 92,000 were employed internationally. Like many other companies, Oracle has fully embraced AI and concentrated much of its efforts on the technology. The company is also a key participant in the United States’ $500 billion Stargate Project, which aims to build multiple AI data centers across the country. When it comes to AI adoption and its impact on the workforce, opinions remain divided. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, whose company has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of the AI boom, recently said in an interview that attributing job cuts to AI is a “lazy” narrative. “The narrative that connects AI to job loss, for many of the CEOs that are doing it – it is just too lazy. AI has just arrived, how is it possible they're already losing jobs?” Huang said. However, statistics and recent reports tell a different story. According to Layoffs.fyi, 196 tech companies have laid off about 119,800 employees so far this year. Reducing staff and replacing roles with AI agents could become one of the most significant trends in the job market in the years ahead.
