Another BitTorrent site goes bye-bye

Lokitorrent goes offline

Lokitorrent, an extremely popular BitTorrent website, now has an MPAA message as its homepage.

The site recently gathered over $40,000 as funds for fighting the court case that was brought upon them by the MPAA. They vowed to fight for the BitTorrent community. However, the site has been up and down over the last few days, and now the site reads the following:

"This website has been permanently shut down by court order because it facilitates the illegal downloading of copyrighted motion pictures. The illegal downloading of motion pictures robs thousands of honest, hard-working people of their livelihood, and stifles creativity. Illegally downloading movies from sites such as these without proper authorization violates the law, is theft, and is not anonymous. Stealing movies leaves a trail. The only way not to get caught is to stop."

What's interesting, though, is that the page is highly unprofessional. The page header reads "MPAA NOTICE", and the page itself contains a somewhat satirical 'I' rating - to represent downloading being 'Illegal' for everyone. The image is also rather ridiculous, with bold text saying: "You can click But you can't hide" - unusual, and stupid.

Personally I believe this is a complete mockup. The Nikush.com Team, including myself, and many others across the BitTorrent community knew right from the start that this was a hopeless battle. All credit to them for trying...oh wait, did they even try? What happened to the $30,000 they got for the 'first' month? There were no updates on the courtcase whatsoever. It seems as if Lowkee (alias of the Lokitorrent administrator) and sold the entire BitTorrent community out, and done a runner with many peoples' hard earning money.

First Sloncek, now Lowkee. This is a disgrace...

UPDATE

The pornography version of Lokitorrent has a completely different message. It states that MySQL backups are being done, and it will return soon. This is unusual, as although they may not be breaking the law with the torrents that are hosted there, it was still a major asset to the main site. Once again, the message may just be an excuse, to prevent having to give away information about Lokitorrent.

UPDATE #2

According to oddcrap from the Neowin.net Forums, after having spoken to Lowkee himself, the site has been taken down by a request from the judge at the trial. The images being hosted on the Lokitorrent server add to the fact that the site hasn't actually been taken over by the MPAA. So basically, they are still bull****ting us, but maybe not as we thought. Or maybe...

I knew right from the beggining that the guy wanted money coz he knew that Lokitorrent was goin bye bye. So he wanted to gather as many bucks as possible for his retreat.

He's such a ****ing ###### ! I'm glad I never donated

Sorry for those whop donated :( Damn I hate thieves

Wow... the site gets shut down and people immediately start accusing the guy of stealing the money. Well, that might indeed turn out to be the case, BUT it is too soon to tell and you are all talking out your behinds - no-one knows yet.

    • What they really need to do is automatically spell "loses" and "lose" correctly since nobody seems to know how to anymore. Then they blame spellcheck/autocomplete and don't realize autocomplete is just filling in the word for them automatically so it was misspelled in the first place.
    • If someone chooses to continue using SB and therefore goes through the manual intervention in the thread, afterwards the BSOD problem is gone. Whether they then re-enable the task doesn't matter, they're done, though on such machines it might pay to keep it disabled in case the next update (if there is a next) causes the same problem. OTOH, if someone disables SB in the BIOS, the problem is also gone. Incidentally, I noticed that this task exists even on machines that don't support SB. It's just installed across the board...and runs. Doing what on such machines is a little hazy.
