Friend getting me mad about cars..

Let alone even able to house a V8 motor ;)

Oh, that's not true... :p

Take a look at the motor running in Gen3 (95-99) Ford Taurus SHO's... It's a Gen3 Yamaha Racing 3.4L V8 with an all aluminum block and heads.

And yes, it will fit in a Civic, with a little room to spare... :D

Hell, there are a few people who actually have modded the engine into Civics, as I have seen them at some of my SHO conventions I've been to...

This is coming from an owner of a 1997 Ford Taurus SHO ;)

tell your friend with the civic to just race the viper. that will solve it. btw, your friend with the civic did not run a 12.8 with just a cai and a vtec controller. either he has a power adder or he is flat out lying to you. ask to see the time slip, i bet he lost it.

look, i have an eclipse gsx and i know its faster than a civic with a 50 shot because ive raced one. i also know that i run a 14.5 in the 1/4. i will wreck a civic with a cai and a vtec controller and i will get slapped around by a viper.

although, once summer comes and my new turbo gets put on and it gets tuned by pruven or turbotrix it should run low 12s, high 11s, and that puts me within range of beating a viper...

so tell your friend with the civic he is retarted and will not beat the viper. propose a race between the two of them, see if he will do it. he sounds like your typical ricer to me though.

A friend in my city got a Dodge Viper 2005, the first I think in my area to get that kind of car. Most people that have fast cars or think they have fast cars drive Honda Civics. Well I told a friend about my other friend getting a Viper and all he can say is that the car is slow and that his civic can smoke it.  I'm not saying that the civic is slow because he can do a quater mile in high 12's but comparing a stock vtech civic motor to a vipers 500HP motor is no contest. Or is it. Am I missing anything from this?

Your friend obviously has brain damage. He must hate American cars and be a ricer boy.

go go Pokemondigimonpikachu mobiles, gotta rice em all!

585479905

lol, you're right.

to the original poster... does your friend have a big wing on his car? a body kit perhaps? stickers? altezzas? i suppose the aerodynamics and stickers can add several hundred horsepower, in which case yes, it could beat the viper. yeah, the civic will pass it like its standing still. no need for power adders. ;)

As much as I love Civics there is no way in hell that "pure motor power" and a CAI is going to smoke a 500HP Viper.

6th Generation (96-00)

- Si: 160BHP stock, and DOHC VTEC

- EX: 127BHP stock, and VTEC

- HX: 115BHP stock, and VTEC-E (economy; wannabe VTEC ;))

- LX, DX, CX: 106BHP stock, no VTEC

7th Generation (00+)

- Si: 160BHP stock, and DOHC VTEC

- EX: 127BHP stock, and VTEC

- HX: 117BHP stock, and VTEC-E

- LX, DX: 115BHP stock, no VTEC

So, as you can see, your friend is a complete moron. He would need some incredibly heavy modifications to beat a 500HP Viper, and I don't even want to know how much that would cost.

EDIT: And a stock 6G EX's quarter mile time is 16.8 seconds.

on a raceway he did very high 12's around 12.8ISH.  The thing is that he played around with his ECU and the vtech is always on instead only kicking in after 5.5K RPM.

585477876

VTEC always on... this i doubt, even though it can be done, either through TODA Race cams or an APEXi Controller it would be vey undrivable at low speeds and deferntly rubbish for drag, unless you lauch at 6000rpm.. and by that point it's already engaged so whats the point

and it's VTEC not VTECH

Unfortunatly the fast and the furious films have far over estimated the civics abilitys, even though they are good cars especially in UK Type-R trim... they will not beat a viper...

Down santa pod (uk drag strip) my friends stock type-r pulled a 15.1, my prelude (h22a5 engine) pulled 16seconds , sisters crx del sol did 16.1seconds (b16a1 engine) and my mate in his accord (f22 engine) did 16.9 seconds

so a 12 second runs out of an ecu modified civic...... impressive

Americans on here seem quick to rubbish Japanese cars and I don't know why.. they are exceptionally reliable, well designed, and very very well engineered. You'd be amazed what kind of power you can get out of a humble 4 cylinder block.

But I digress. In short, i'd say the old adage of "There is no replacement for displacement" stands true here.. the Viper is a muscle car, the Civic is a family run around. Unless he has SERIOUSLY gone to town on that engine (and I mean supercharger, and changing every single internal component) the Civic will be eating tyre smoke and exhaust fumes by the time the cars up to 30MPH.. and he's a fool if he thinks otherwise.

I don't think people have a problem with the Civic, per say, but rather with the idea of a civic as a race car.

A civic is, as you said, a family run-around.

A Viper has 500 horsepower and a V12, his little rice burner isn't going to beat that.

585477823

since when did a viper get a v-12? it thought it was a v-10?

which american said the civic was crap? that is all you see here in the states, i'd bet 1 in 8 cars is a civic..

its just that, no matter how hard people try, civics are not and will never be race cars.

sure they can be HEAVILY modded and be really fast, but why someone would shell out for $20,000 for a brand new civic and another $60,000+ to mod it is beyond me... when you can buy an m3 for around $50,000 keep it stock and still smoke that modded civic

w/ the altima i have, it is amazing, the things that come out of some people's mouths about modding my car.. some things i just can't repeat. i'm so glad they dont' drive the same car as me.

Yeah 8.3L V10. 505 ci I think. :woot:

And to me its the Japanese V6 3-3.5 L that are very impressive. Though it seems the days of the Japanese 'supercar' are over but maybe on the rebound with Nissan and the 350Z.

I'm waiting for a 350+ hp 350+ torqe TT vehicle.

Bring back the 3000GT. :D

First off, let me say that your friend suffers from a case of "Rice-itis". One who drives a Honda and thinks they can conquer the world. To cure this problem is a task but a swift kick to the nuts will usually do. No matter how many times their Honda is spanked in a drag or racing contest, they will always blame some unseen factor. "Ohh, I got a bad start." or the favorite "You cheated...let's run 'em again." and they get beat time after time but never learn that they're just wasting gas.

A stock Viper would simply chew on a Honda Civic given they're at the dragstrip and both have professional drivers behind the wheel no matter what your friend has done. Yes, there are fast Civic's out there, but no high 12's civic will ever touch a 500hp Viper which tends to rock low 11's or thereabout.

Again, give your friend a swift kick in the nuts and say "Get over your Hon-DUH...!"

I personally own an srt-10 and I can preatty much guarantee no civic would own this - the 04/05 viper rivals ferrari and lambo...how can a rice-rocket be even compared to this...

btw the gs that the viper pulls...for those of you who have been in a 737 jet as its about to take off...its kinda like that but more *umph* :pinch: :ninja:

all you guys say civics are rice. There are civics that aren't, and can easily beat a viper. You say it costs $20,000 + $50,000 to mod a civic? Try $5000 + $15,000 to beat most cars on the road. If you tune it right, they can be very good race cars, drag or track. And it would be much cheaper than buying a stock performance car. The only reason to get a car like a viper or an M3 would be for more comfort, style, and exclusiveness. If you want pure performance, a civic can give you that for much less. You guys need to learn to stop saying every civic or Japanese car is rice.

Yeah, if you want a quick speed boost with a civic all you have to get is a few stickers. Some flames on the side, the word civic spelled out on the front window, and a couple of stickers of parts you'll never own are good for at least a 100+hp boost. You can sink $20000 into a civic and it'll be fast but in the end you still have a civic. That's about as dumb as buying a $1000 car and sticking $3000 rims on it.

Did I mention anything about stickers or flames? Your post just shows how ignorant people can be without knowing the correct info. And what's wrong with having a civic? I'd rather have a civic than no car or another econobox (escort or neon or some crap like that). So what car do you have since civic is too cheap for you?

    • New AMD graphics driver fixes install issues and FSR 4.1 crashes on RX 7000 GPUs by Taras Buria AMD is rolling out yet another graphics driver. Version 26.6.4 is now available for download, bringing two important fixes. One is for those still using Windows 10 and having trouble installing driver 26.6.2. In fact, this patch is coming from the recently released hotfix, so it is not new if you are already running version 26.6.3. The second fix is for RX 7000 owners. AMD recently brought FSR 4.1 support to the previous-gen graphics cards, but there was a bug with certain games crashing when using FSR 4.1. I experienced this issue with Forza Horizon 6, so today's driver should take care of that. Here is the official changelog: Intermittent install issue seen when installing AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.6.2 on Windows® 10 systems for Radeon™ RX 7000 series and above graphics products. Intermittent application crash may be observed in some games with AMD FSR Upscaling 4.1 enabled on Radeon™ RX 7000 series graphics products. Known issues include the following: Intermittent application crash or driver timeout may be observed while playing Battlefield™ 6 on AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. AMD is actively working on a resolution with the developer to be released as soon as possible. Texture flickering or corruption may appear while playing Battlefield™ 6 with AMD Record and Stream on some AMD graphics products. AMD FSR Upscaling and AMD FSR Frame Generation may show as inactive in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition while playing Battlefield™ 6 when enabled on Radeon™ RX 9000 series graphics products. Failure to install may be observed while installing AI Bundle components in some regions with limited access to HuggingFace and GitHub. Model flickering or rendering failure may be observed in Maxon Cinema 4D and Blender on Radeon™ RX 7000 series and above graphics products. Users experiencing this issue are recommended to install AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.3.1. Intermittent application crash may be observed on some models while running Blender on Radeon™ RX 7000 series and above graphics products. Users experiencing this issue are recommended to install AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.3.1. You can download the AMD Radeon driver 26.6.4 from the official website here. Full release notes are available on the same page.
    • Amazon may use OpenAI and Nova models after Anthropic reportedly raises costs by Karthik Mudaliar Amazon is reportedly considering to use OpenAI models and even its own Nova family of AI models after Anthropic raised the cost of using Claude inside Amazon services. According to a report from The Information, Amazon is weighing its options to reduce costs under a new arrangement with Anthropic. But back in April, Amazon said it would invest $5 billion more in Anthropic, with the possibility of adding up to another $20 billion if certain commercial milestones are met. That investment actually came on top of another $8 billion Amazon had already put into the Claude maker. Anthropic, meanwhile, committed to spend more than $100 billion over 10 years on AWS technologies, including Amazon’s Trainium chips. Amazon isn't just a customer of Anthropic but also one of the most important backers and cloud partners. This is why it makes it interesting that Amazon is considering other alternatives to handle its internal workloads. Although Amazon has been building its own options for a while now. Its Nova family of AI models was announced in late 2024 for Amazon Bedrock, with models aimed at text, image, and video tasks. Amazon pitched the model around cost and latency at that time. With that said, OpenAI has also become a more realistic option recently for AWS customers as well as for Amazon itself. Earlier this year, OpenAI brought its latest models and Codex coding agent to Amazon Bedrock, after changes to its previously more restrictive Microsoft cloud arrangement. This allowed AWS to serve even those customers who wanted other alternatives from Claude, without having to move workloads out of Amazon's cloud. Evaluating alternatives could also be due to commercial pressure and not necessarily a sign of a damaged partnership between Amazon and Anthropic. Whether or not Amazon is actually considering switching entirely to OpenAI's models or its own Nova models remains unknown at this moment.
    • Samsung introduces new AI classroom tools and interactive displays at ISTELive 2026 by Fiza Ali Samsung has announced several new education-focused software features and interactive displays for schools during ISTELive 2026, taking place in Orlando, Florida, from 28 June to 1 July. The focus of these updates is on making shared classroom displays easier to use for teachers while giving IT administrators more control over managing devices. One of the key additions is the Samsung Account Management Solution (AMS). In many schools, multiple teachers share the same interactive display throughout the day, which means signing in and setting everything up can become repetitive. With AMS, teachers can log in by scanning a QR code or tapping an NFC-enabled ID card. Once signed in, their personalised workspace, including wallpapers, bookmarks, app shortcuts, and files, can be instantly accessed through Home Personalisation. Samsung has also included a screen lock feature, allowing teachers to lock the display if they need to step away briefly. Furthermore, the company is also updating its Education Portal with new tools designed for school IT administrators. The portal will allow IT administrators to register teachers, enrol devices, and manage user access from a central dashboard. Administrators can also link NFC cards to teacher accounts, making sign-ins quicker across shared displays. Another addition is a Tags feature that lets schools organise displays by building or classroom. Those tags can also be used to send emergency notifications to selected Samsung Interactive Displays through compatible platforms such as InformaCast and Raptor. Moreover, the tech giant's AI Assistant is gaining several new features aimed at supporting everyday classroom tasks such as lesson planning and classroom engagement. One of the features is Circle to Search, which lets teachers circle text or images on the display to quickly find related information, videos, or web results without interrupting the lesson. The content can then be brought into Samsung Whiteboard. Another feature, Live Transcript, converts spoken lessons into real-time captions, which could be useful for students with hearing impairments or those in multilingual classrooms. The AI Assistant also introduces AI Summary and AI Quiz. The summary tool creates summaries of recorded lessons, while AI Quiz generates questions based on lesson content so teachers can quickly check how well students are following along. Teachers signed in through Samsung AMS can also return to their previous AI-generated lesson materials without logging in again. Alongside the software updates, Samsung has expanded its Android-based Interactive Display range with three new models: the WAF-S, WAFX-PS, and WAHX-M. The WAF-S and WAFX-PS ship with Android 16, bringing updates to security, accessibility, and overall usability while maintaining compatibility with Google's education services including Google Classroom and Google Drive through EDLA certification. Meanwhile, the new WAHX-M is the biggest addition to the lineup, introducing a 98-inch display for larger spaces such as lecture halls and conference rooms. It will also be available in 65-inch, 75-inch and 86-inch sizes. Samsung says the WAHX-M further includes on-device AI features such as voice commands, text-to-speech, and an AI calculator, alongside support for Samsung AMS and AI Assistant. Samsung AI Assistant has been available since April, while Samsung AMS and the updated Education Portal will begin rolling out in July.
    • It's been $24 (single) or $89 (4-pack) for many days on both Amazon and Walmart as far as I know. That isn't a big discount. If these end up like the 1st gen, the 4-pack will routinely get down around $80, give or take a dollar. I think they have even hit $69 at times.
