When have they ever done that aside from IE?

They were still going to develop IE for longhorn regardless.

That I'm aware of this happened to IE, but one of microsoft's employees (lead programmer of a project) who was giving a speech at my university said (strangely enough but honestly enough) that's how they usually do things...

MS shouldn't have waited this long to separate IE from the OS ..

Uh.. who said it's going to be any more "seperated" from the OS than it is in 9x/2000/XP? It's still going to use other shared components from Longhorn and be bundled with the OS

Well first of all, don't even bother bringing it up unless you at least have some examples to back your statements up.

Second, it was probably misperceived. Microsoft simply can't win. If they keep putting updates out, they are accused of just trying to make more money. If they don't, they are accused of not caring about their users.

IE would have to have inbuilt pop-up stoppers. Firefox let's through about 3 a day, with IE that goes up to about 300 and I don't want to download extra pap just to get rid of my pop-ups.

I use both, firefox and IE, but my dad pretty much has to use IE for his internet banking, and surprise surprise, it doesn't work (won't load up new windows) there's macro$hite for ya.

But I wouldn't Switch, but I would download it, and use it.

Regarding CSS2 support, does any browser have full CSS2 support? I don't thinkt they do...

Safari is the closest to it, but no, none support it fully. Safari is also the only browser to pass the ACID Test.

Score one for OS X.

On topic though, no. Opera is more than good enough for me, and I've yet to come across a site that is entirely broken in it. But then, I don't bank online. Tabs and the other features are all good ideas, so well done Microsoft. It just doesn't help that they've taken this long to incorporate the features other browsers have had for years, and even then limit the userbase to XP or better.

firsly, WHAT SITES DO YOU VISIT?!

With IE i havnt got a single pop-up since service pack 2... because Ie DOES have popup stoppers along with many other features. with firefox I have only ever got a single popup.

You must have alot of adware.

Either way I will soon be on Safari too, three nice browsers.

I'm sorry, I thought I had IE to back my statement up, but it seems that's really not enough for you. I don't work at Microsoft, the guy who gave the speech does, so he probably has more to back up his statement than I do, if you don't accept this fine, that's your right.

Second, where did you hear that Microsoft is accused of trying to make money when they release updates??? That's nonsense, people want Microsoft to improve their products...not only Microsoft, but most companies who update their software on a regular basis gain respect of people, because it shows they care about their product. I think most people want to see how IE 7 will turn out to be because most at least hope that Microsoft will address many issues with that release.

I said examples, not example. You said they do it all the time, so I wanted something besides IE. I have a friend that works at MS and thinks what you said is a joke. So we're on an even playing field in that regard. If you can't back yourself up, then shut up.

I hear people accusing MS is just trying to make money ALL the time. Not neccesarily here at Neowin, but just about everywhere else.

I would update to IE7, and only use it for certain websites such as Microsoft Update. Firefox is used for other browsing. I don't want to switch back to a browser where thousands of exploits and spyware injections are possible because I know IE7 will be too similar to previous versions of IE for it to be secure.

Already use IE and nothing will make me switch, I don't trust open source and I'm not going to pay $$$ for a browser (like Opera)

You do know you can see the code to open source software, right? Its a lot easier to trust something that you and the community can see, unlike trying to trust MS with IE.

No, you shut up...it's really easy to say I have a friend at Microsoft who says you're lying...What I said in the first place was:

Totally agree... as soon as m$ has the market they simply drop development until the competitors start to steal users. That's m$ history.

I was referring to IE as the previous poster was talking about IE, I don't know where you picked up I was referring to MS in general...I meant to say in the history of IE but then again you seem to want a flame war here...

Fine, you don't believe what I say...I don't believe what you say... you can believe what your friend say...believe that everyone thinks Microsoft wants to make money when they release updates... go be a m$ fanboy, now please just drop it and leave me alone I'm tired and through with this. It's just becoming childish

No. What you said HEAVILY implies multiple instances. When you say something they did once is their HISTORY, it is always assumed that they do it all the time unless specified otherwise.

Also, in response to your original statement, I asked when they have done it besides IE. All you could muster is saying that a MS employee once said they is usually how they do things with no actual examples.

Yeah.. I'm sure an employee at MS would talk **** about them while working there.

    • I totally disagree. Very little good comes out of governments all around the world manipulating everything they can and usually the people are not the benefactors. What you say about being restricted and expensive sounds almost like the arguments against firearms and why banning them will protect people as if making something illegal somehow will prevent the criminals from having and using them. AI being far less mainstream could simply mean the average person will not benefit, but "big brother" and the corporations will benefit, which is almost for sure NOT a good thing.

    • "connect with audiences" is the most obvious corporate speak you can think of. I only bought Need for Speed from EA because it was the only racing game with cops in existence and I dig that. Now that they killed off NFS franchise, I have nothing to spend money on. EA is officially dead for me, just like Ubisoft which I've been boycotting for some 20 years now...
