I've been conditioned to hate IE with every fibre of my being.

The last few years have been hell for me with round the clock spyware, popups, BHOs, you name it. And I gave up IE a few years earlier - all that was from other peoples PCs which I had to fix.

I saw first hand, just how sucky IE really is and what sort of cack handed coding MS expects to sell. I mean, come on... a virus in a .jpg? How many moronic programmers do you need for that?

And there is still code from the original mosaic browser in there! I'm not using 10 year old hardware - damned if I'm using ten year old software.

- probably activex taken off too

i don't think MS will ever get rid of that. they're using activex even more now with things like Genuine Advantage (the validation) for all downloads and microsoft update.

for them the great benefit is being able to take control of someone's pc completely. what they don't/should realise is that that is why it's such a security risk.

i'm not voting because i would switch to IE only if the following are added:

- w3 standards compliance support

- transparent png support

- probably activex taken off too

- it will get better, but every browser has its share of issues. it's a damn shame too, because it's amazing what one can do using pure XHTML/CSS/JavaScript, but most of it goes down the toilet because of all the bug fixes you have to add in and all the non-fixable bugs you have to work around.

- reportedly, this will happen, which is great, because we'll finally be able to throw away the transparent GIF. The web will be such a nicer place when all browsers support alpha transparency in PNG images

- never happenin'. sorry. Too many enterprise-level web apps utilize ActiveX. ActiveX and IE are together forever, as it were.

While I agree that transparent PNGs are great, gifs are still going to be around for awihle, I think. If you've got a small image that doesn't need alpha transparency, why make it a png? And besides, a lot of people still use dial-up connections, and usually pngs aren't very dial-up friendly (yes, I know it's a bit ironic I'm using a transparent png in my sig).

PNG was created to replace GIF (due to patents) and a gif image will compress just as well as a png (cause png's uses zip compression, so single color images compress really small)

Basically, PNG will replace GIF, there is just no need for it (after IE implemements it, if they do)

I prefer IE ... cause FireFox is so retarded in displaying Asian characters ...

585695800[/snapback]

Really? Have you even tried changing the languages setup or the encoding?

IE is 50/50 on asian texts, some come out garbled, some are perfect.

On firefox, all is fine though, as expected.

I can't wait to see IE 7 in action, but ie needs a lot of basic features to really be a contender for me.

I use both firefox & maxthon; firefox for most things, maxthon for small pages like neowins stuff, wup, and some news sites. Other than that, I let ff handle everything the web can throw at me, including those badly build 'optimised for ie1+' pages. i hope they discontinue the support for coloured scrollbars . . .

I use IE in the form of Maxthon and have for years and years and years. Why? Because Firefox is a bloated memory hog and I don't like the other choices.

Will I ever switch? No, because there is really no reason to. I have never had a serious security issue and don't see it happening in the near future.

Are there some people that should switch? Sure there are... but mainly people who don't know how to get on the internet without their hands being held.

:D

I would download and install IE7 but Firefox will remain my primary browser of choice.

And to all the people that get tired of having to download a full installer for an upgrade

Firefox 1.1 will have binary patching .. so only what needs to be updated will be updated

my stance on IE and MS can be read on my spreadfirefox blog here

    • Ocenaudio 3.19.3 by Razvan Serea Ocenaudio is a full featured, fast and easy to use audio and music editor. It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display.
