How long till Miranda is easy to customise again?

I can't believe there isn't some easy skinning method as featured in things like AdiumX.

Screenshot = AdiumX and about 1 minute of configuring.

I can get the same look that you show in the screenshot in 1 minute too, just because you can't it doesn't mean it's not possible.

Please tell me where I said it wasn't possible? Please tell me where I said I couldn't do it if I wanted to?

All I said was it was hard and I'm sticking buy that until you can tell me a very quick way of doing it.

Also: Miranda is only quick to set-up if you know exactly what you are doing. In Adium, even the newest of users can completely customise it with simple downloads, no messing with trial and error settings.

I just can't believe that Miranda has been going so long and just doesnt seem to have evolved.

Hello folks, first of all, thanks for this helpful guide :D

Managed to get my Miranda to look like this at the moment,

a couple of questions though:

1. Can I get the left icons to indent more? Tried increasing the margin but it only indents the background, not the icon and the text itself.

2. Can I set the right margin? I can only see the option to set the left one.

3. Can I fix the drop shadow here?

Thanks in advance :p

I have never seen a program with this level of idiocy, skinning it is relatively impossible at least with the newest build it is a POS because IEView does not work period....... back to trillian at least I never had these kind of skinning issues with it.

I must say the concept and the level it can be customized is astounding if it worked but I am not going to download all 100 different builds to find the ones that work.

I wish I had eternity to work on getting this to work, I really do but I just don't so if there is no plain and simple answer for why IEView does not work period despite following this detailed or maybe it is lack of detailed instructions on here and google then let me know til then trillian it is.

Heya, I'm getting really frustrated by all this miranda crap, like everyone else.

First we have the question (which actually never been ansvered in this entire "guide" even though ppl asked about it")... How do I get the avatars to show up in the message log? Both mine and the others...

And well.. Here's how my contact list looks like with clist_classic... miranda2.jpg

nice invisible stuff with the tweakUI plugin.

When i change to Clist_nicer or Clist_nicer+ the fonts change and the tweakUI stops to work, atleast the invisible thingy. And looks like this

miranda1.jpg

Uhm I've been trialing and erroring for ages now, so.. does anyone know what i have to change or do?

and btw the plugins i have are the latest i can find

Hey, just downloaded it. Confusing the hell out of me. A couple things.

1. How do i have it so that the offline contacts don't show?

2. My AIM isn't working? I set it up with my password and screenname, but how do i log in? I hit status and hit online, but it doesn't do anything.

3. Can i get rid of these icons? http://img300.imageshack.us/img300/7691/untitled19jf.jpg

1. Right click on miranda>hide offline contact or right click on miranda>option>contact list.

2. You have to get the latest workable version to use aim, get it here. (replaces the old one)

http://www.miranda-im.org/download/details...iewfile&id=2286

3. There is a way to get rid of the icons, dont remember though.

Have fun customizing!

miranda can look nice o0? I just though everyone was pulling my leg, I gave up on this dang thing over a month ago. I code websites by hand I've made visual styles, I've made skins for trillian but Miranda o0 it didn't even work right without skins. And I fix and repair computers but this program is buggy as hell and I installed it on two machines thinking I must have some program or something causing the problem....come to find out Miranda is the problem, I think the dev team needs to run a better debugger and maybe even get a copy of soft ice if that helps.

Basicly I never got a single skin of anything to work right, I even had people from this forum to zip up a new profile they made configured for a skin and I loaded it up and low behold it gave my a screwed up default looking see through skin that was useless. I even double checked and made sure all the settings were good. Was I missing some big thing? Like Direct X 10 beta with Framework 2.0 wtf?

Maybe it don't work right with WinXP Pro SP2?

thx to those people btw that tried helping me out, just sorry that I am obviously ignorant and am incapable of comprehending the likes of Miranda.

Well applying skins to the user list should be easy enough with the Modern clist.

However, applying templates to the chat (windows) is a bit more complicated, maybe this'll help:

Try using IEview with Scriver instead of Tabsrmm.

I had problems with Tabsrmm and tried Scriver instead.

The damn thing worked just by selecting a template in 'Options > Message Sessions > IEview plugin < click the Message Log tab, browse to the template file and remember to tick the templates box.

Except the smiley replacement i didnt enable anything else in IEview.

okay i finally got the bubble or text boxes going OO amazing yes I know but everything else still is a no go, the contact list for pureplastic theme...non existant i followed someones guide that got it to use my wallpaper but beyond that it does nothing. And all messaging windows like the title bar and borders use my crappy windows theme not the pureplastic theme once more.

I swear if anyone can EVER be ENTIRELY up front with me about what plugins they use to apply skins like Pureplastic and Aeroglass themes and exactly what versions they use and what they disabled or enabled by checking or unchecking we'd have a Miranda for Dummies guide and Smart people! I swear it shouldn't be that complicated for someone to do and why the F the theme developers don't SPECIFY EXACTLY which versions they made their skins for is beyond me and what settings to apply. Any other skinnable program I have had experience with most if not all skinners including myself had the courtesy of including a readme explaining EXACTLY what it requires and how to set it up.

to quote the guy that made pureplastics

"How do I install this? (assuming you have IEView set up properly)"

considering all the many versions out there and different ways to set it up, not to mention IEView having NOTHING to do with the contact list(aka clist modern and nicer) that is a hell of an assumption. Not mention they mention NO other plugins. Yes we are all supose to magicly know which version of IEView to use and which other plugins we need I mean duh it is all common sense..... Its just like a linux program being release without any info about which distro it is for and the developer saying "oh well assuming you have linux setup properly everything will work and install just fine" why don't you just say well you have a 1 in about 24,583 chance of having everything configured perfectly and for you lucky ones enjoy and to everyone else well it sucks to be you.

If only I was into miranda since its ugly reception(pre-skins) maybe I would be the expert required or no guru that is required to be able to know how to apply skins.

I think I understand now the pureplastic skin was never a full skin by any means but the screenshot i saw of it used it but it also used other stuff too apparently and the borders of the message window seem to probably only be what your visual style is, unfortunetly the screenshot once again did not show that much for me to see that yes it was a windows theme with like 2 miranda themes. This program does not skin quite as good as i thought it did considering the above.

    • The current Statcoungter desktop numbers has Google Chrome increasing it's market share this past year and currently commanding 75% share. Everybody else is just making up the numbers with even MS Edge losing 3% this past year and has dipped just below 10% share which is staggering considering it's default on every Windows deviced purchased. If these numbers are correct that terrible Edge number is both devastating and embarrassing for MS especially when you add in the terribly low Bing market share. This leads me to ask a couple of questions as the default browser holding just less than 10% market share seems really weird. It used to be that all Chromium browsers were being counted as Google Chrome in some cases.  Is this still happening? Do these high Google Chrome numbers contains some Edge user numbers?
    • Yeah, all web browsers seem to have some junk in them these days. The regular Brave browser has a lot of unnecessary stuff in it, similar to Microsoft Edge, so I don't see any benefits of using Brave over Microsoft Edge if you already have Microsoft Edge fully set up with ad blockers and that. The cleanest or best free browser outside of 'Microsoft Edge' I’ve tried so far is 'Samsung Browser'. It has very little bloat and is a nice-looking web browser with an inbuilt 'Ad blocker'. I also really like the web browser called 'Floorp' that is based on Firefox. This browser can also install Chrome extensions. I have a system wide Ad blocking program for Windows 11 that doesn't just blocks ads in the web browser, but over the whole system. I don't really need a web browser with an inbuilt ad blocker because of that.
