Thanks (Y) Now for page 2,3,4 :p

question... what is the xbox silver thingy?

585909764[/snapback]

There are going to be two versions of Xbox Live; Silver and Gold. Silver is free and available to all, current Live subscribers are upgraded to Gold.

Those GR3 screens are really nice. This is on MTV tonight, right? It's either today or tomorrow, I know that.

Its on at 9:30PM tonight.

Kick ass. And do you know any other details on the Silver/Gold deal or have only the names been talked about so far?

More

Well the second one is simple. The controller takes AA batteries, if you put rechargable ones in it can recharge when you connect the controller via USB. But you can also use regular throw away AA batteries.

Well I am guessing that the USB cable will let you play while charging, but I wonder if the system has to be on to charge the batteries or will it do it just being plugged into the wall.

I'm going to doubt it, it'd be a major design mistake. What better time to charge the things than when you're not using them? :p Hopefully Microsoft thought all the little details like this through

Environments/Clothing look really nice, but the most noticeable thing is that the character's skins still have that plastic, texture-less look to them

It looks like a fighting game that belongs on the Dreamcast. And you do make a good point, the skin should be textured with inperfections and all that jazz. Even this gens games like Silent Hill have excellent skin texturing.

Nothing Special at all.. If this what we can expect from next Gen, then I will stick to PC.

Same as current Gen, just some poly polygons and and larger textures.. that it?

Correct me if im wrong but all First Gen games on ANY console dont look all that amazing, its when the developers get experienced coding for the console when all the tricks come out and games start to look amazing.

Please tell me how Xbox360 looks like Dreamcast....

Oh it does:Dreamcast. Like ViciousX said above look at the skin textures. There are none! Details are important and when you have 3 PowerPC processors there shouldn't be an excuse.

Your wrong, Metal Gear Solid 2.

First of all its the developer thats at fault, not the hardware, if they decide to stylise it in such a way they dont use skin textures then the 3 PowerPC processors dont factor into it.

Secondly Metal Gear Solid 2 wasnt a 1st Gen game.

Apparently they are internal screenshots that have leaked out. Is also sposed to be a concept code running on current xbox dev kit and not the x360 kits. They are apparently waiting the final kits to and then bump up the game to the x360 hardware.

So take these screenshots with a pinch of salt.

Wasnt the hole point of XDK was that developers could cary over their experiense from.

Also, I think GT3 and MTS3 and ICO were a few example of Excellent examples of changes seen in "next gen"

Are we Expecting too much from next gen? has all they hype overshadowed reaity.

    • Linux 7.1 arrives with an NTFS overhaul and major hardware performance boosts by Paul Hill The founder of the Linux kernel has just announced the availability of Linux 7.1. This is a stable version of the kernel that will now be tested by various Linux distributions before it is shipped to users through update managers. Some users, like those on Debian, for example, might not get it for a long time, if at all, while Fedora users can expect it in the near future. With Linux 7.1 out on time, the merge window for Linux 7.2 is now open, giving contributors the opportunity to send in major new features that have been waiting for the last two months. Torvalds warned that he is currently travelling and will be in another timezone, so timing for the merge window may be irregular due to timezone differences and limited internet access. Torvalds said that he has already fetched early pull requests to allow him to do some offline work, but the travel could still cause disruption. Right now, he is not planning to extend the release, but did consider it. He said he might later regret not extending, though. In terms of this last week of development for Linux 7.1, Torvalds said there were no major or alarming changes. This week consisted mostly of smaller driver updates to GPU, networking, and sound, networking fixes, trace tooling fixes, and misc minor fixes. The shortlog this week lists fixes for driver bugs, memory leaks, I/O and USB fixes, networking and RDMA fixes, DRM/graphics fixes, and tooling and verification improvements. Specific fixes include USB series heap-overflow and buffer overflow fixes, and multiple use-after-free, memory-leak, and refcount corrections across subsystems such as i2c, zram, gpio, and net. There are fixes for graphics drivers, including amdgpu, i915, and virtio, as well as hypervisor and virtualization tweaks affecting mshv, vmbus, and hyperv. According to Phoronix, anyone running Linux 7.1 should look out for the new NTFS driver, Intel FRED for improved performance on Panther Lake and future CPUs, faster graphics with Intel Arc Battlemage, and improvements for older AMD Radeon GPUs. If you are running Linux on your computer and everything is fine, then you don’t need to worry about updating to Linux 7.1 as a priority; just wait for it to be pushed to you. If you have tried Linux on hardware but it didn’t work properly, trying again with a distro that uses Linux 7.1 could cause Linux to work on your machine, thanks to the new hardware support.
    • you can also do this with this tool: PowerSettingsExplorer made by mbk1969 at 3dguru forum.. I found it by accident researching on modern standby and annoying quirks of it in 2022
