[Definitive] Nintendo Wii Thread

ummmmm i dont think anyone is saying they will pass up the rev because its not HD, but we are bitchinngg about the fact that it lacks it.  I for one am really starting to like the idea of the new control and the possible low price :)

Ditto here. Personally, I initially was discouraged that it won't support HD, and if it were up to me, I'd make them include it, but it's not up to me. Either way, it's their games that really interest me, and frankly, I doubt they'll be any worse without HD.

I agree that it would be good to have the choice, but they say they won't, and they must have their motives. I don't really think in the long run HD will be a big selling point. So far only US is starting to have HD content, and not that much. Most of the world doesn't. I believe the bigger part of the sales of a console come in the first few years of its lifetime, so if it takes 3,4 or even 5 years for HD to really kick in, all the consoles will already have sold the most they will, and maybe by that point people will take into consideration if the console they're buying supports it. Right now, and I'll venture to say that for at the very least a year, only tech-savvy people like you and me are the ones that bother about it.

uhhh and what exactly was the great innovative difference between the gamecube and n64?..... prettier pictures.

The first functional console wireless controllers, better media that allowed more content, no piracy, and little to no loading times, GBA connectivity (not used much, but a nice adition that apparently all competitors will also have in the next gen), LAN play (again, not much used, but is there), a re-designed pad, more comfortable and easy to use than the previous, analog shoulder buttons, and maybe some more. Hell, they even had online capability, if only for one game.

If it weren't for Nintendo we wouldn't have the analog stick, directional pad, shoulder buttons, and rumble.  Yeah, they sure aren't a progressive company .. dumb ass.

We have DVD's and the WiFi connection now.

Quit complaining about the past, and get on with it.

um.... Dual Shock anyone? That had the analog sticks, and rumble, and shoulder buttons. This was before N64...

So ya, sony wins?

No, it wasn't, look into it. The dual shock was a response to the N64 controller. Yes, I'm sure about that. Even when Nintendo had anounced the N64 controller, the dual shock wasn't even thought of. The only thing the PS1 controller brought was the grips for your hands, though too short IMHO, and double the number of shoulder buttons, which was confusing.

Both are wrong, lets all thank ATARI for the first Game Oriented Anlaog stick

From wikipedia:

In 1982 Atari released the first controller with an analog stick for their Atari 5200 home console. However, the non-centering joystick design proved to be ungainly and unreliable, alienating many consumers at the time. During that same year, General Consumer Electronics introduced the Vectrex, a vector graphics based system which used a self-centering analog stick, obviously a precursor to the modern design.

We all thank Nintendo fo Mario, Zelda and for producing the console in wich allowed me to play Goldeneye.

Back on topic, Nintendo needs to offer something really god for not providing HD-DVD, the only way to justify this is offering revolution at a revolutionary price, I can see nintendo a winner with a cheap to develops and very cheap to buy console.

Playing games from the past is good. Be nice if they could bump them up to online, Co-op in "River City Ransom" :)

I would like the rev to have hi-def, but you can still have pretty pictures on sd. I'm pretty sure they will have 16x9 because more and more people will be using it. This is the only console that I'm really excited and curious about. Knowing that I'll be able to afford it doesn't hurt either. Nintendo has done a really good job with most of the things they've come out with and I think they will come through with their new controller and system. I mean, they're pretty much betting the life of their console system on this, right? They've never let me down and I'm hoping they don't this time. I'm no fanboy, I'll probably get a 360 or ps3, but I am really excited by the rev. Remember how great it was to play a nes, snes or even a sega genesis? I actually play that stuff more than I play my ps2. I want something that will make me feel like that again and I don't care what specs the machine has.

I *think* they've made mention of possibly bringing some old multiplayer titles online, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

Ahh... theres still so much we dont know about the revolution.

Next E3 is going to be huge for it hopefully ;D

Speaking of E3...

Nintendo Prepping for Revolution

The company asks press to carve out time for an E3 2005 Revolution fest. Details here.

by Matt Casamassina

November 28, 2005 - The Electronics Entertainment Expo is still more than 165 days off, but that hasn't stopped Nintendo from preparing for the big show. In an unprecedented move, the company today sent out a "save the date" press reminder for its pre-E3 2006 show -- the same event where full disclosure on its next-generation console, codenamed Revolution, will take place.

"You're probably just starting to plan your time for 2006. With a mere 165 days to go (give or take), it's time to start thinking about next year's E3. Nintendo is most certainly thinking about it. So pencil us in," the company wrote in an official mass-mailing to media. "You'll hear all the incredible details about Nintendo's upcoming games and hardware, including our next home console, codenamed Revolution. You won't want to miss it. See you there."

The event will take place on May 9, 2006 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California, according to the publisher.

Historically, mailings like this arrive only a month or so prior to the actual E3 events, and thus we're positively puzzled and simultaneously excited to learn that the Big N is already gearing up for its Revolution blowout.

Nintendo of America has indicated on several occasions that more information on Revolution will be forthcoming on a regular basis beginning early next year.

Well, now we know when .. the problem is waiting till May. :(

Someone freeze me in a tube and wake me up on the 8th.  :shifty:

586866056[/snapback]

you watch as well, they'll unviel the revolution fully then pull out a new peace of hardware at the end of the conference and say "we are not going to say what this is or what this does, wait till next E3 to find out"

i'd go maaad

I'm not sure that I am ready to say "Good job Nintendo, since only 20% of homes in the US have HDTV sets anyways" simply because by 2009 standard definition sets will no longer be supported. Think about it this way:

If the Gamecube's life was about 5 years (2001-2006) and the Revolution is released next year, give it another 5 years and where will we be? 2011. Do you see what I'm getting at here? By choosing not to go HD, their system will be obsolete 2 years before the normal life expectancy of a console comes to an end. This means Nintendo will have to either push an add-on (which people will not be happy about) or they will need to release a new system early in the next gen of consoles (which most people will also not be happy about).

So back to the point: While it is true that not many people have HDTV sets right now, that number will soar in a matter of years. And as a result, Nintendo will be hitting themselves very hard.

Yes, but every home in North America is not going to rush out before 2009 and buy an HD set. It will only be necessary for TV programming, not viewing things ON your TV, like DVD, games, etc. Trust me, standard will be around for a while longer.

Everyone is getting so excited about PS3 and Xbox 360 having HD, but seriously how many people actually have a HD TV or even know what it is? It won't affect Nintendo's sales much.

You're in Europe, so it's different there, but everybody in America knows what HDTV is. Even my parents, whose main TV is about 15 years old, know what HDTV is. And as was stated by another poster, HDTV will become common place within the Revolution's lifespan, so it's stupid to not support it out of the box.

True, but a lot of people have a TV for TV programming... I think that by 2010 the minimum percentage of people with HDTV sets will be at least 85%, and if that isn't reason enough to have a HD-ready next-gen system then  .

This guy's completely correct. The coaxil/RCA cable inputs on your TV is going to stop working 12:00 am January 1, 2009.

Well.. why can't they just make the Rev work with HD but not 'stress' it? Doesn't the Gamecube support HD or at least "component cables"? (i'm no video professional so i'm not that familiar with the stuff) but if the GCN can do it, the rev certainly should be able to. Would adding HD SUPPORT make it that much more expensive?

Just asking..

    • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Flip 8, Z Fold Wide: Everything you need to know The ONLY thing I need to know is the price, which I know will be way higher than I (and most people) are willing to pay for a phone... so basically nothing here I need to know. PS: Nice job getting that Apple reference to a non-existent and unrevealed product as "competition" in there. Cheque is in the mail.
    • Well I really think the repasting helped if your higher clocks have returned, maybe the next thing to look at is if there is a problem with your case airflow? I guess this because your 3080 has returned to optimal state, but is still staying too warm, which might suggest it was thermal throttling before you repasted, of which the only logical conclusion could be outside factors.
    • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Flip 8, Z Fold Wide: Everything you need to know by Hamid Ganji Galaxy Z Fold 7 - Image via Samsung The next generation of Samsung foldables is set to be unveiled next month at the second Unpacked event of the year. Samsung’s 2026 foldables are not expected to offer significant upgrades over their predecessors, with the Korean firm instead focusing on design refinements and conventional upgrades such as faster processors and better cameras. However, Samsung is reportedly planning to unveil an all-new passport-style foldable this year to rival Apple’s first foldable iPhone, which is expected to debut this September. Here’s a roundup of everything we know about Samsung’s upcoming foldable devices ahead of their official debut. When can we expect Samsung’s new foldables? The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 series were unveiled in July, and Samsung is expected to maintain this timeframe in 2026. Based on previous reports from Korean sources, Samsung will hold its Unpacked event on July 22 in London, UK, to pull back the curtain on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series. The devices are also expected to hit the shelves a few weeks after launch. However, Samsung has yet to announce an official date. A new naming scheme? One of the most interesting changes we might see this year is a new naming scheme for Samsung’s latest foldables. SamMobile reported that since Samsung is expected to unveil three foldables this year, it has adopted a new naming strategy to simplify product identification for customers. Accordingly, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 will reportedly be called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and will serve as the direct successor to last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7. The “Ultra” suffix suggests the phone could feature higher-end specifications, such as additional rear camera modules. Samsung’s new passport-style foldable is expected to carry the Galaxy Z Fold 8 name without any suffix. This model is reportedly equipped with two rear cameras. No major changes are expected for the Flip model. Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 anticipated specs Rumors over the past few months suggest Samsung is preparing several upgrades for its upcoming foldables, although the devices may continue to rely on larger batteries and faster charging speeds rather than dramatic design changes. The primary focus this year is expected to be the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and its wide-screen design. Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra official CAD renders - Image via AndroidHeadlines Here are the anticipated specifications for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra based on previous leaks: 6.5-inch outer display and 8-inch inner display, 120Hz refresh rate, and 2,600 nits peak brightness Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, paired with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage 4.1mm thickness when unfolded and a weight of 210g 200MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide camera, 10MP or 12MP telephoto camera, 10MP cover camera, and 10MP selfie camera 5,000mAh battery with 45W wired charging Android 17 and One UI 9 As for the Galaxy Z Flip 8, the device is not expected to be a major departure from its predecessor, although it could become slightly slimmer. Expected specifications include: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or Exynos 2600 processor 12GB of RAM with 256GB and 512GB storage options 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner dispaly and 4.1-inch Super AMOLED outer dispaly 50MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide camera, and 10MP selfie camera 4,300mAh battery with 25W wired charging Android 17 and One UI 9 Samsung’s foldables are also expected to launch with Gemini Intelligence, Google’s AI suite for automating tasks in Android ecosystem. Moreover, given current memory and component costs, some Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 variants could see a price hike. Galaxy Z Fold 8 adopts a wide-screen design The centerpiece of the upcoming Unpacked event could be the Galaxy Z Fold 8, previously rumored as the Galaxy Z Fold Wide. This model adopts a passport-style form factor and is expected to compete directly with Apple’s iPhone Fold. Galaxy Z Fold 8 official CAD renders - Image via AndroidHeadlines Here’s what to expect: 7.6-inch primary OLED display and 5.4-inch cover display, 120Hz refresh rate, 2,600 nits peak brightness, and 4:3 aspect ratio Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, 12GB or 16GB of RAM, and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB storage options 4,800mAh battery with 45W wired charging 50MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide camera, and 10MP selfie camera Android 17 and One UI 9 The three new foldable phones are unlikely to be the only devices unveiled at Samsung’s Unpacked event. The company is also expected to introduce the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and the Galaxy Watch 9 series.
