[Definitive] Nintendo Wii Thread

one of the advantages that the revolution might have over both the 360 and the ps3 is that they dont have to render their games in hd giving the developers the ability to make games in a lower resolution but making the gameplay look like the trailers for the games. overall graphics will depend on what will be of the specs of the graphics card and cpu

My god, we're on the exact same page!!

The graphics will be able to compete with Xbox 360 and PS3, they already said, that so no worrys. Especially not if this turns out to be true...

* Nintendo may utilize an internally developed proprietary visual distortion method to be applied to all of the games compatible with the Nintendo Revolution, including NES, SNES, N64, GameCube and Revolution titles. A blog does state that a technology called NURB is being developed by Nintendo, which could bring graphical capabilities up to the PS3's level. [20] ("NURB" is likely a typo for NURBS.) However, nothing from Nintendo has been officially announced. The same source claims that Cube Environment Mapping [21] will also be used.

Nothing else about the Revolution lately so why not read it? :)

Great article! I didn't know that it would play the older consoles games too. Guess I'll save myself a couple hundred bucks (and the stress of having to wait for months to get 360) and wait for Nintendo.

I think one reason why Nintendo is holding Zelda back is because they want to release it around the time Revolution launches.... it'll be one of many killer apps..... although it's not a revolution title, the revolution is fully backwards compatible.....

1) it'll sell well since more ppl have gamecubes than ps3s and xbox 360s, so, that'll translate into ppl who dont have gamecubes, buying a revolution, to play it..

2) once they realize how amazing it is, it'll get them to buy some old gamecube games, ones that they didn't have a chance to play because they didn't have a gamecube.. metroid, zelda wind waker

and faith in nintendo will be restored..... i'm looking forward to nintendo wifi for the revolution.. i think that more ppl will play on nintendo wifi than on xbox live because it's free... i'm a type of gamer that would just like to play online just for fun, forget about scoreboards and such.. just play for fun, for free

They struggle to get 10 reasons, probably would have looked better if they had just said 5 :p

If the Revolution is going to work with Nintendo Wi-Fi, does that mean that online play will only be available in certain hotspots? I'm a n00b to Wi-Fi, but that's what I heard about the DS Wi-Fi.

Incorrect.

The hotspots that were set up by nintendo were for people with no highspeed internet/no router, or for people who just want to play at a cafe, or school (for example)

You can get a router, and play off that. You dont need to go to the "Nintendo Hotspots"

I thought that when I first saw Zelda, Metroid, and SSB each in a separate reason. However, if you read it, you'll see that they are separate for valid reasons.

Personally for me the lack of HD won't make a difference since I can't afford a high-end plasma/LCD. HD is not that common in the UK anyway compared to the US where it might put people off it.

At the end of the day if they're trading off graphics for gameplay then that's a philosophy I can appreciate.

Bingo! :D

VLR

well as long as revolution does a world wide release on the same date its not so bad.. since we aussies have to wait until march for the xbox 360 its only a few more months for the revolution. i just wish they would keep giving us little bits of info to keep us excited!

Each argument consists of "Its a good game!" (somehow there still 3 paragraphs long though) But I really don't rate the pulling power of Metroid or SSB to be honest. There not games that have ever got the attention of non-Nintendo'ians (hell I've never played Metriod and found the first smash brothers to be very meh) Zelda.. Zelda is a reason to buy it as it is a widely known franchise and your almost guaranteed a good game, and would definitely be a reason to get it.. but we all know buying consoles based off one game is a bad idea.

But if given the chance to play Perfect Dark Zero or Mario Kart DS online, we'd choose Nintendo's racer any day of the week -- and it is bound to pale in comparison to the inevitable Revolution version. If you are like us, you may want to skip 360 and wait for Revolution.

WTF? What has this got to do with SSB online? Even though its not fair to compare the titles anyway, PDZ is vastly superior. It doesn't give a reason why MKDS is better either, just "ITS GOOD OK?!"

Its very fan boyish and really just a horribly written article. 5 points (backwards compatibilty/controller/nintendo games/other companies games/online?) are all pretty amazing arguments, but the others water it all down.

In my opinion of course.

Since there are no news for the rev, we might as well debate a little :D

Like I said, when you read it, it talks about the posibilities of the games in general, not the games themeslves, using them as an example. Here's how I see the three repited reasons:

Zelda Reason: All franchises Nintendo has are awesome and quality assured as they are, and exclusive to Nintendo.

Metroid Reason: How simply the way it's going to be controlled may eclipse the competition's FPS's (to set an example), as well as how great can be the third party projects built from the ground up for the Revolution with the controller in mind.

Smash Brothers Reason: The benefits of the added online play to already existing awesome franchises, keeping in mind the already said added benefits of the controller.

So, they are different. But I agree with you to a point. The writing isn't the best, more like something pulled out quickly to put something in the frontpage due to the lack of Revolution news (hence my first sentence in this post). Plus, I also believe SSB isn't that great (I can't play it for more than 10 minutes without getting bored), but apparently most people do, and to all of them, this game alone, with the added stuff, is reason enough to buy the console, so it is a good point.

Also, please allow me to say that if you haven't played Metroid Prime, you're cheating yourself, the game is awesome, and better than most FPS's out there IMHO. I'd play it over Halo any day of the week (which I may add, fanboyism aside, the reason why Halo is so popular is beyond me).

EDIT: I've just read the top 10 reasons to wait for the PS3, and that IS a lame list, even though they don't repeat any of the reasons.

Well, genius, you just did the same thing.

Well, in all fairness, the article does not say why it's better, it's left to the reader to asume why, plus it's more based on their personal opinion (which may very well be the same of a lot of people)

What the hell are you talking about? The guy accused this writer of doing something he went and did right afterwards. No duh the writer actually DID it. That's not the issue.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that its vastly superior. One is a next generation title (and it appears to be the best of the bunch so far), where its online play is its main purpose, and you have a game using graphics from the 64 era, and as far as I'm aware, its only racing online, no battle? Might be wrong. They really can't be compared properly, but if you had to, PDZ is easily the winner because its the latest game out. Just as saying the Xbox 360 is so much better than the Revolution, even though you really can't compare them since one doesn't "exist" yet. :p

You know what I mean? Sorry, I didn't bother to elaborate, as I didn't feel I needed to, but then, I wasn't writing an article.
