[Definitive] Nintendo Wii Thread

Someone on another forum had a really good ideal what the "secret" is they keep talking about. Don't know if someone ever brought up this ideal before on Neowin.

Basically you can purchase and download 20 years of Nintendo's games from all its systems and it will store it on the Revolution's 512MB flash card. Well the secret is that they are going to reveal the next generation of the GameBoy. The new GameBoy will be able to use the same flash cards as the Revolution and the new GameBoy will have the ability to play the games you purchased with the Revolution. So you could either play the old games you purchased on the Revolution or take them on the go with you with the new GameBoy.

That would be very cool and even I would buy that :woot:

BTW is that flash card you mention mesured by Nintendos standart? Cause if it is then it's far smaller than 512MB

my roomate and i were talking about that the other week. let me be the first to say that portable chrono trigger would ruin my g.p.a. completely.

I am pretty sure that it is 512MB.

I think you may be mistaking MegaBits (Mb) for MegaBytes (MB). Nintendo usually uses Mbits when stating the capacity of their game carts, and other items. For example, Perfect Dark on N64 had a cart size of 256Mbits, but in reality this is only 32MBytes.

Then my sources are wrong, I was reading a while back about Gameboy modchips and they had high caps on the Bs too as n Bytes but whatever. Just hope they offer higher resolution gameboys with VGA or something and preferably fitting in the pocket.

I am pretty sure they said you can buy more flash cards if they get filled so I am guessing it is one of the types of flash cards. This whole concept is practically the same thing with the PSP and how it uses the memory sticks. It's a damn good ideal though if Nintendo would actually do it.

That is correct. There will be two SD memory card slots at the front of the console.

The 512MB flash memory is internal.

Let's just put this silly argument to bed shall we:

? Nintendo Revolution is a gaming console.

? Xbox 360 and PS 3 are also game consoles.

? Most people who buy any of the above 3 are doing it primarily for gaming.

? Alot of people will only buy 1 console.

Of course they are competing. They are taking a different approach to gaming than the xbox and ps3, and they're hoping it pays off. I don't understand why people are saying they aren't competing.

What i dont like is that nintendo openly say they are not competing: the rev isnt competing against the PS3 or 306... the DS isnt competing against the PSP... blah blah blah, you know what i call that? loser talk. someone with no confidence left that is softening the fall they think they are gunna have- i think its pathetic and i yearn for the nintendo of old (yes i said yearn!), the one with the wacky accessories, the one who was told the NES would never sell and then promptly told them all the $#$@ off and sold 500,000 units in its first month! The nintendo that made fun of their competition in commericals! what happened to that nintendo?

Ill tell you what happened- they got depressed and are now relegated to 3rd place, i dont know if they stopped caring or if they just didnt get their heads otu fo their collective asses in time and listened to developers, but they need to do something soon or they are gunna be lost- i dont care if your making a profit from your systems, $25 profit and no games selling for your system will onlyt carry you so far before you pokemon money r;)s out ;) hehehehehehe

Actually that was a $110 million last fiscal year and profits are the only thing that keeps businesses going. And your definition of 3rd place depends on your point of view, sales or profit? If you are going by sales, yes they are 3rd place with the GameCube and first in handhelds. If you are going by profit they have made more then Sony and Microsoft gaming divisions combined. And no games selling? They are the #2 publisher behind EA games.

It could actually be more beneficial for them going this path. You hear more people say they will either buy a Revolution alone along with being a compliment to either the Xbox360 or PS3. Chances are there will be more people who will buy the combination of Xobx360+Revolution or PS3+Revolution more-so then Xbox360+PS3.

Ya... I'd have to agree with you there. I think maybe they think people will have extra respect for them being humble or something. But regarding the old Nintendo, I have a feeling your dreams may come true when their new ad campaign for the revolution starts. They started some pretty weird sh*t recently (the commercial where the mouse f***s the gameboy micro). And I have a feeling they're gonna be doing that whole bunch more for the rev (and new gameboy???). They know the gamecube gave them a kiddy image and they're gonna be doing their damndest to shake that generalization.

their approach to overhype the revolution is not very effective. they should tell us now, or else we'd just go with the 360 or ps3

Yes and no. Some won't wait and just go for the 360. OR will wait and go with the ps3 or revolution since both of these consoles are coming out around the same time and more info will be shown about both @ E3 in May :)

Speaking of ads, was anyone watching FOX lineup during the Simpsons, Family Guy, American dad, etc last night? Nintendo had like 3-4 commericals during that timeslot for Mario Kart DS and NintendoWifi. The Ninja commerical with the fat ninja hiding behind the tree eating was pretty damn funny.

You can talk about charts and number til your blue in the face, it wont change the fact that they are 3rd place in console sales and 3rd place in the minds of the general public. And your right, 3rd place does depend on one's point of view, but you have to admit, every year the video game industry makes a bigger and bigger profit, and although the pie is getting bigger, nintendo's slice remains the same size! Being first in handhelds is not a surprise, they have been doing handhelds for a decade now- i would be surprised if they WERENT ever on top. But that is because their hardware is cheap, I for one bought a DS on a whime the other day and i really have to sit and think about plopping down $300 for a PSP ;) As for games not selling, i wasnt talking about just nintendo alone, but instead games in general on the GC. You do realize that selling a lot of nintendo games and nothing does not make a great console. Nintendo has to help 3rd party devs not only with production and license rebates but with advertising. We all know twilight princess is gunna sell like hotcakes, infact im gunna go preorder from eb today, but if EA sells 2 copies of madden, what reason do they or others have to stick around ont he platform. Nintento is like that annoying kid at the playground, they are always right, but in the end they play alone.

You absolutley right, but doesnt this kinda play into my idea of "loser talk" with the whole relegated to 3rd palce thing? i mean, to me this type of thinking is like "hey go with one of the other guys and hey if you feel like later, maybe if your at the cash register and you got some extra money- why dont u also buy our console?" If your gunna tout "GAMES ONLY" why dont you yell it from the top of buildings and in big ad campaigns instead of hoping silently that they will choose you as an afterthought?

Atari Founder Lauds Revolution Controller

Bushnell claims standard controllers "too complex" for casual gamers.

By Wade Steel

December 5, 2005 - Atari founder Nolan Bushnell has praised Nintendo's controller design for its upcoming Revolution next-generation gaming console while claiming that the complexity of current controllers are "scaring away gamers."

In comments made at the Digital Interactive Entertainment Conference in Kyoto, Bushnell stated that with their its new controller, Nintendo is "on to a very good idea." He further stated that "if you look at today's controller with triangles, Xs, squares and circles, it's scary. It's like a keyboard. People are interface phobic."

Bushnell claims that the complexity of controllers is one of the reasons why people have turned away from gaming and cited a statistic that shows a drop in people engaged in gaming as an activity from 44 million in 1982 to 18 million today. Bushnell did not provide a source for this statistic.

The Atari founder also stated that rising violence in videogames has cost the industry the female demographic.

I don't know what people are babbling about. Video game controllers are not complex. Whenever I'm teaching somebody to play a game, I just tell them the basics first to minimize the amount of things they need to remember. Then, once they're comfortable with what I've told them, I tell them about other, non-essential controls.

You pretty much tore apart your own argument.

The simple fact you tell people the basics first in order to not confuse them demonstrates a certain level of complexity.

Yeah exactly. Anyone who is not into gaming alone may look at a controller and be intimidated, understandably so, they do have quite a lot to them. It's hard to realize that if you've been into gaming for a long time though

I can remember being 7 years old and picking up a NES controller and being able to play a game within minutes. It took me a few hours before I felt comfortable with the XBox controller. I'm still iffy about the 'Cube controller. You guys don't think these controllers are complex because with the majority of you, it's all you've ever known. I'm almost 30...I remember when the Atari 2600 was new. But the complexity of the controllers goes hand-in-hand with the complexity of the games. Games back in the day were linear 2-D ordeals. Up, down, left, right, maybe a button to attack or fire, that's it. You couldn't pick up something as simple as a NES controller and expect to play Halo, and that's fine with me. But with this evolution, genres that I used to enjoy when I was a child, such as fighting games like Mortal Kombat...I wouldn't touch a modern fighting game with a 20-foot pole, simply because of the complexity required. It degrades to frantic button mashing, and I hate that.

I will agree that games these days for the most part suck. I have a 'cube and a xbox currently, and have owned a couple of PS2s. Right now we've got about 30 games between the two consoles, and I've actually played perhaps 10 of them due to lack of interest after the first few minutes.

    • DriversCloud 12.1.6 by Razvan Serea With DriversCloud (formerly My-Config.com), you can explore your computer easily, safely and free. The application quickly scans your PC and identifies the hardware and software components. DriversCloud then establishes a list of the different drivers compatible with your OS and hardware. Download the drivers needed for the proper functioning of your computer. To detect your drivers, DriversCloud also displays a detailed summary of your hardware and software configuration, analyzes your BSOD, monitors in real-time your PC voltages and temperatures and lets you share your configuration online. Once the hardware components have been detected, you will be able to obtain with just a few clicks the latest drivers corresponding to the identified hardware. You can record your configuration on the site for free, and can get the corresponding URL to post the configuration to technical forums, e-mail and social networks. You can also download the detection result (the configuration) as a PDF file. To protect the user's privacy and data confidentiality, a 4-level confidentiality system was created that filters the XML marks and gives control to the user. The default level can be modified in the preferences. Using the maximum level will prevent the user from publishing his configuration and generating a corresponding PDF file. In non-connected mode, each XML configuration is stored on the server for one day (for practical reasons). However, you are given the opportunity to manually delete it. Created in 2004, and continually improved, My-Config.com has established itself on the web as a free service to PC users running Windows and Linux operating systems. The service is designed to work with the most common Internet browsers (Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Safari). • Ocenaudio 3.19.3 by Razvan Serea Ocenaudio is a full featured, fast and easy to use audio and music editor. It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display.
