Nintendo is promising to give out these TV remotes, that look exactly like the controller...blahdiblah.

It seems so obvious. The remote will double as a universal television remote, they're not sending out a tv remote, it's the controller. :D

The guys over at IGN's Revolution site have come forward with more developer details about the Revolution console, and its power, or lack thereof. We've known since day one Nintendo isn't going for a graphical approach with the console, instead concentrating on a low price, downloading capabilities, and of course, the unique controller. According to developer sources, the console will have even less RAM than previously thought: instead of 128MB, it will build on the GameCube's original 40MB of RAM with an extra 64MB, making for a total of 104MB of RAM. Also mentioned was the system's potential clockspeed, as it may only be double that of the GameCube's. Brought up as well was the disc space of Revolution discs: while they will be 12cm, like DVDs, they won't in fact be DVDs, but a propritary Nintendo format able to hold 4.7 GB of space for a single-sided disc and 8.5 GB for a double-sided disc, a huge step up from the 1.5 GB minidiscs of the GameCube. However, the biggest shocker is the sources' unanimous agreement on a launch price for the console, based on the tech: a mere $149. One developer even stated a $99 launch price, which has been rumored, is not out of the question. While the lack of tech in the system (sans the controller) is certainly disappointing, the fact that this system may sell for a dirt-cheap price may make this a bit easier to swallow. Nintendo has promised a nice stream of news to come over the next year, culminating at E3 2006, so definitely stay tuned.

Mario 128 unvieling for the gamecube @ every single E3 they said they would

first there was no unvieling of the game whatsoever... second it was moved onto revolution. :angry: one of my most anticipated Nintendo games ever that the promise has never seen the light of day.

i'm going to the bar and am too lazy to find a source, i'm sure you know of whats going on with Mario 128, its probably the biggest lost promise Nintendo ever made. :angry:

Well, if I recall correctly, Mario 128 started as a technical demo, and was only later titled as an actual game, which is still promised to come. At worst that's just pushing back dates (a lot, I'll give you that, though), and what I'm talking about (though I probably didn't emphasize it enough) is promising features and not delivering the way they promised.

Back on topic, I'm perplexed by those tech specs. Not only cause they show that Nintendo really is serious about specs not being that important, but also cause of the price range. Can anyone tell me if any company ever released a next gen console so cheap (given the market)?

In any case, this could either greatly benefit Nintendo (prolly everyone would get a Revolution at that price range if even just for the novelty of the controller and the old games) or greatly hurt them (people would simply prefer a more powerfull console and totally dismiss it). I'm leaning towards the former.

Not that I don't like what they'll offer in terms of games but I wish they'd spend the money on their system to atleast make it as comparable so developers don't have an excuse not to put their game out for it.. though if that's going to be the price then I'm definitely buying it.

Well, more information about the PS3 has been released, but the thing is you can't trust something that comes from Sony so far. They always overhype their products prior to launch, and little by little take away stuff or we find out that some features are not what they promised. So the point is that the information out there so far from the PS3 release isn't conclusive until either the thing is out, or closer to it.

Now as far as Nintendo, for better or worse, they always keep their promises and support their decisions. So whatever little information we know officially from them, we can be sure that's the way it's going to be. If I'm mistaken on this, please point me somewhere that proves otherwise.

Oh, I definitely agree with that, but we've at least seen some real-time footage of games for the PS3, like MGS4. That's really what I was thinking of when I made the statement.

Proper Backward compatibility?

The GameCube RAM and Revolution RAM is the same type of RAM.. so why aren't they using the same thing? .... But.. perhaps some GameCube games are stupid enough to assume that they only have so much memory, so perhaps thats why.. shouldn't the Emulated games just be running off the Revolution RAM? Instead of having its own dedicated memory?

I like Nintendo and all but if they're saying the controller is the big point of this release then why don't they make a new controller for the gamecube.. lol.. it doesn't seem that great to be honest but if its cheap i might get it ;) I could careless for hdtv support too (which rev doesn't have), even though I have an hdtv, I hardly see a difference from digital to hdtv broadcasts :blink:

Well if the article turns out being true, they are essentially beefing up and minaturizing the current GameCube hardware so it could sell for a significantly lower price then the other nextgen consoles and almost come close to the current GameCube price. A 2-3x more powerful GameCube for that price would be very nice.

Besides remeber Nintendo didn't want us to know the specs.

It's probably just me, but I find the two articles highly suspicious. Nintendo is the Fort Knox of keeping secrets, I don't know how something like this could be leaked, especially if developers have to sign a NDA or something along the lines of that not to talk about the hardware. The Nintendo DS, GameBoy Micro, the Revolution, the Revolution controller, etc. were kept under wraps until Nintendo decided to reveal them on their terms. It just seems weird after Nintendo pretty much saying they were not going to release the specs that a developer would suddenly leak them.

Why? You are just going to leave the hundreds of 360 threads laying out then aren't you?

This was a pointless move.

He wanted to make room for more 360 threads so people will more easily see the old threads and stop posting repeat threads :)

I'm sure when the Revolution is released they'll start merging xbox threads into the main one (altho at that time there will be no more hype and most of the threads should be a little more diverse and less "OMFG i got one it's awesome" Just like how Nintendo threads are "I wonder..." and "I bet they..."
