[Definitive] Nintendo Wii Thread

Recommended Posts

Not necessarily.... Nintendo mentioned that they will reveal the final name at E3. Its still "code named" revolution. It would be a cool name to stick with though.

Personally ... I see Nintendo as the only company that wants to take risks. They're going with gameplay options instead of graphics... I hope it turns out well for them. ;D

Nintendo 180  "we only made it half way around this time"

Nintendo 180  "we only made it half way around this time"

I think they should go back to their roots. Ultra Nintendo!

'Course then people would start calling it UNES - which doesn't sound as cool when you say it as "Ness" or "Sness"

Right, right, I know, but if the graphics aren't gonna be up to par with the PS3 and 360, then it's going to be too much effort for third-party developers to port their multi-platform games to the Revolution, isn't it?
There are multiple games(Splinter Cell 4, The Darkness) listed in GameSpot, IGN, 1UP, etc. that are listed for all three systems so apparently not. Anyway who buys Nintendo consoles for multiplatform games?
Not a chance. Unlike you, I actually contribute something to this forum.
Yes we are all greatful for you reminding us how underwelming the PS3 will be comapred to the Xbox360 every post about the PS3. Keep up the good fight!

Huh? I never said anything of the sort.

There's a big difference between saying "You may have unrealistic expectations of the PS3" and saying it will be better/worse than something else.

That's a good point. I guess what I was getting at was that people who are only going to get one next-gen system and are looking at the Revolution will be missing a number, although not all, as you pointed out, of multi-platform releases.

I think the Revolution will be decently popular as a second system for people who own either the PS3 or the 360, I just don't see it being vastly successful on its own.

Sorry if I'm coming off as a 360 or PS3 fanboy; although I do prefer those systems to the Revolution (at this point), I'd like to at least backup my arguments with some form of sense. ;)

And, like I said, once the Revolution hits a cheap price point, I'll probably pick one up. I got my Gamecube when it hit $149.99, and that was primarily so I could play Zelda, Metroid, and Smash Brothers. And RE4 and MGS.

Sigh...I don't understand how someone can "prefer the PS3" when the ****ing thing doesn't even exist yet. Until it's on store shelves...it's just vapour ware.

The Revolution shows promise...let's hope Nintendo can pull off something cool with it.

OrangeSoul: Do you even know what technical specs are?

For that matter, I really don't care about the specs. I want Nintendo games because they are always fun. The Rev will be more powerfull than the GC, that's enough for me. It's the controller that makes me wan't to have it, not the graphics.

wow these type of forums are something.

But anyways: has anyone looked at IGN's description of how the controller could be used. They go through a good amount of games and how they can be played. With that said I believe it will be another good console, which will not cost too much. I think it should at least have hd on it especially since the government making all stations switch to hd by 2009 (yes it got pushed back). Unless Nintendo has another console planned for then.

i think you both contribute little as it is, but i have to say that you seem to have the bigger mouth of the two, actually jmole's last couple of posts have been nice, small, smart jabs so hes actually gone up a few notches in my book. :)

This is IGN folks, the same people who had no freaking clue what the Revolution controller was till it was revealed despite all of their "insider" sources telling them what it was and then ended up being totally off. I would take this article with a grain of salt until games are actually shown at E3 2006.

What do you mean by that?........I would take you with a grain of salt too!

(I am an IGN employee btw)

Yes and I am winning. Your in close second, but the year is not over and there is still time for you to catch up, hang in there! (Y)

Wow I should give you props for admitting your own trolling. Lets see what the mods think about this.

It means IGN becomes reputable when it serves his agenda and IGN is ridiculed when it doesnt serve his agenda. ;)

We've seen more of the PS3 than the Revolution.

Well, more information about the PS3 has been released, but the thing is you can't trust something that comes from Sony so far. They always overhype their products prior to launch, and little by little take away stuff or we find out that some features are not what they promised. So the point is that the information out there so far from the PS3 release isn't conclusive until either the thing is out, or closer to it.

Now as far as Nintendo, for better or worse, they always keep their promises and support their decisions. So whatever little information we know officially from them, we can be sure that's the way it's going to be. If I'm mistaken on this, please point me somewhere that proves otherwise.

Xbox 360 continues the online gameplay revolution, Revolution is set to make us rethink gameplay.....what does PS3 have in store? Honestly, even though I do plan on getting an x360, if the Revolution is affordable enough, I'll get it too, just to support risk taking and the overall atitude Nintendo has.

For me, honestly I'm only in favour of the PS3 over the x360 because of the Gran Turismo series, that's the main reason for me staying with Playstations, but if one day Gran Turismo decideds on making games for the x360 before the PS3, I'll pick up the x360. :)

Besides, by the time the PS3 comes out, the x360 will have some sort of a price drop by then, and you'll also be able to pick from the PS3 or the x360. More choices, the better. (Y)

Mario 128 unvieling for the gamecube @ every single E3 they said they would

first there was no unvieling of the game whatsoever... second it was moved onto revolution. one of my most anticipated Nintendo games ever that the promise has never seen the light of day.

i'm going to the bar and am too lazy to find a source, i'm sure you know of whats going on with Mario 128, its probably the biggest lost promise Nintendo ever made.

Ok IGN just posted Part II and it has real technical details:

Total RAM : 24 MB T1-SRAM (GC Emulation) + 16 MB DRam (Pre-GC Emulation) + 64 MB T1-SRam (Revolution New Games) = 104 MB Ram in Total

GPU Ram is 3 Mb

Flash Ram is 512 Mb but doesnt seem to be used for game memory

Revolution's IBM CPU is an extention of the Gamecube CPU

Revolution's ATI GPU is not known but is believed to be an extention of the gamecube GPU as well *Speculation

Speculation on Clockrate of CPU and GPU is "just double GC's clockrate" as one revolution developer is saying but another developer said its even lower than double of GC

Developers said N told them they are not in competition with PS3 or Xbox 360 but to have an alternative cheaper market.

Revolution Discs can store 4.7 GB of Data on Single Layer and 8.5 GB on Double Layer, same as Xbox and XBox 360 and PS2

Every developer says the launch price would be around $149 US while a few say $99

This leads me to believe that there is not much power, only innovation + Gamecube

Amazing to be honest. If this thing does launch for 150 at max, god damn. People underestimate the Nintendo parent. Parents who grew up on the name nintendo for their kids will jump at this like white on rice.

That is completely aside from the amazing control system they invented, and the still-to-be-announced secret which would further propel this sytem to stardom.

I'm sold.

It's not a lost promise and much like the Revolution controller: Super Mario Wikipedia

Rumors later surfaced that Nintendo did not show Mario 128 at E? 2003because the game was very innovative, and Nintendo did not want other developers stealing the ideas from the game.> As reported by IGN:

"The latest issue of Japan's Nintendo Dream magazine is apparently home to good news for Mario fanatics who were a bit disappointed with Mario Sunshine. According to the magazine, Nintendo's upcomingMario 128 title is being built around a new idea that's never before been seen in a game. Apparently, Nintendo refrained from putting the title on display at E? in order to prevent it from being stolen."b>

And more recently:

IGNcube: Can you give us an update on Mario 128?

Shigeru Miyamoto: [Chuckles] I'm just really sorry. I think I've given people the wrong impression with Mario 128. With all the questions I'm getting about this, I really feel like I've done people a disservice. In regard to Mario 128, we're currently doing a lot of Mario experiments back in Kyoto. We are definitely going to have a new Mario for Revolution. Whether or not that's 128 or not, I can't really say. It might be a new Sunshine. We're not sure. We're doing a lot of Mario tests right now for the Revolution.

In the September 2005 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, Miyamoto confirmed that Mario 128 would be targeted at the Nintendo Revolution.

EGM: You mentioned Mario 128 two years ago when we talked. You said if you didn't show Mario 128 in that next year, you would consider yourself a failure. And now here we are…

Miyamoto: I'm sorry. [laughs] Yeah, I got side-tracked with things like Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat and some other titles, and they took some of my energy away from the project. We have been continually working on different projects, different experiments with the Mario 128 engine. The name Mario 128 came from Mario 64 [for the Nintendo 64 and now DS] -- with that name, we wanted to say, "Hey, we're creating something brand new." So what we do on the Revolution, whether or not that's going to be [called Mario 128].... it's going to be a new Mario.

EGM: Since Mario 128 started as a GameCube project and has now been moved to the Revolution, has the game design changed as well?

Miyamoto: Well, [when we] create a Mario game, there are [initially several] experiments. A lot of fundamental things have to be in place. And really, Mario 128 really never got past that stage. So rather than having an actual game design for it, it was more of a concept, like the types of things we want Mario to do. So we're obviously using a lot of that material, but as far as the game design [is concerned], we're swapping ideas and different concepts with the Mario Sunshine team and trying to see what we can come up with, trying to find the most interesting direction to take.
